"Isn't it too early?"

"No, Alpha. You ought to have marked her already."

The council's response has Alpha Steele creasing his head with his palm. The meeting was called all of a sudden, making him think it was something urgent until he came over and all they kept saying was how he has to mark his mate.

Although he's getting more closer to Alexia, the marking had never come to his mind. Then again, when the time is right for the marking comes, he just hopes she wouldn't feel pressured and they'd get into it on her free will.

"I know what I must do, don't I? If that's all you elders have to say, I'm afraid I have to take my leave."

He left and none of them dared to stop him. Upon reaching his chamber, to matter how much he tried not to think about the topic, it all failed.

The Alpha leaned back in his chair, his fingers tapped against the table's surface and for a fleeting moment, his gaze flicked towards the ashtray on the table.

There's a familiar temptation tempting tempting him to reach out. The urge to smoke was there but he knew he couldn't give in, not here, not now.

The council were right, since sooner or later, he still has to mark her.

He turned, his instinct staying his gaze towards the open door, and there she was: Alexia, standing by the entrance.

For a moment, neither of them moved. His eyes lingered on her. "Alexia. Is there something you need?" He was the first to speak.

"I was just... wondering if you needed anything." She shook her head in response.

"Your concern is appreciated, Alexia. I assure you, I have everything I need."

"However, I would not refuse your company if you wish to join me. Unless, of course, there is some other task that demands your attention?"

"No, Alpha. Infact, I feel honored." Alexia turned crimson red as he pointed to the seat beside him, "Then, please, make yourself comfortable."

Somehow, he knew he's getting there and just has to wait a little bit before asking her what she feels about the marking. Was it possible she's in heat already? It's absurd they are mates but he knows just little about her.

Alexia on the other hand hasn't been in a good mood since this morning. She's on heat, and needed to get closer with her mate as soon as possible.

It's not as easy as it seems. She has been wondering how to break it down to him. To took a lot of will before she could even come to his chamber. Now, she feels at fault for not getting closer with the Alpha sooner.

Things would have been easy. Now she has no choice that to seat like a statue there beside, unable to speak of how her body is feeling.

She's heard the marking for mates is quite important and a must. In one word, she knew she's done for. 'How will I speak for Pete's sake.' she wondered in her mind.

"Alexia! Are you even listening?" Steele half yelled this time around, and that was when she snapped out of her thought, almost jumping out the chair in the process.

She smiled to hide her embarrassment. "I'm sorry. What did you say?"

That clearly confirmed she wasn't listening to him and her mind seemed to have been somewhere else. "I wanted to know how you've been feeling lately."

"Oh," Her mouth formed circle, surprised he was asking her that. She slightly turned away from him as she responded, "I have been good."

A lie. Currently, it's as if there's a fire burning under her dress. She's barely managing her composure as it is. No one knows how she's going to sleep through the night. To save herself, she's decided to remain seated until she's summoned the courage to tell him of her situation.

Alpha Steele nodded. He can sense that's far off the truth but didn't dwell long on the topic so as not to cause her discomfort. He silently mind-linked Kade who came a few minutes later with a soda drink for the both of them.

Alexia found it so relaxing that she emptied the drink down her throat almost immediately. She can feel his eyes on her but this time, she didn't mind.

"I don't know how you'll react to this but what has to be done can't be delayed..." Alpha Steele rose up from his seat and hovered over to hers, in such a way that caused her breath to hitch. What's he trying to do? Alarmed, her eyes widened.

"I have been told by the council and now am going to tell you," he heaved a deep breath. "I have to mark you tonight, Alexia."
