Hearing this, Alpha Steele made a sudden stop. He turned and wagged one brow at her. "What strange woman?" What does she mean?
Alexia immediately stopped following, pointing towards the hallway, "Luna Celeste brought in a certain unknown lady. I just wanted to let you know."
She carefully narrated, watching carefully for his reaction. For her own insecurity, she needed to tell him before he even get to see things by herself. Her discomfort is getting hard to express.
"That was why you've been waiting for me?" He smirked and walked closer to her seeing as she wanted to shake her head again, "No, no lying this time."
This time, she couldn't look him in the eyes. "Yes. It's true I've been waiting for you." She blushed hard.
That was all he needed to hear. He didn't go to his chamber as planned, instead, he was headed for his mother's. He didn't need to open the door by himself, the guard at the door did, and he entered.
Luna Celeste turned away from Ava, to look at who had entered. Her face brightened at Steele's sight. "You're here. I checked inside your room but you weren't in."
"I'm here, now. However, I'm not smiling."
At the Alpha's voice, Ava straightened on the bed she's seated and turned to his direction, to take him in. She's never seen an Alpha before nor does she know how they look. They should have told her they're always this handsome, though.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Her eyes shun. A big privilege to be in same vicinity as him.
"What happened? You're not well? Or you ain't happy to see me?" The Luna looked confused.
"It's none of what you listed, mother. I'm here to speak of my concern." Steele grunted lowly, not paying any attention to the lady from across.
"Concern? I wanted to tell you something too, dear." She smiled, about to point behind her when he cuts her off. "I want to express my discomfort at having any visitor at the moment."
"If there must be one, in no case should the person spend more than a night." He crossed both arms behind his back, as he finished.
Luna Celeste wanted to speak but didn't find any words at reach. She looked back Ava who looked at her laps without speaking, in return.
When she finally found her tongue, she laughed it off. "I didn't bring a visitor, though. Who told you that lie?"
"You didn't bring a visitor but I can sense someone in the same room as us?" He asked, still refusing to acknowledge the lady on the bed.
"Oh, Ava? She's not a visitor. You're mistaken." She laughed once again. "She's just what I was about telling you about. She's not a visitor, Steele. I wanted to tell you she's the girl I told you I was bringing."
"No, I still don't understand." He shook his head negatively, internally trying hard not to laugh. No matter how much he listen, he just isn't understanding her.
"It's hard to understand? She's here to stay, Steele." She looked back at now sad ava and asked, "Right, Ava?"
She raised her head, looking from the Luna to the Alpha- who wouldn't look at her, "Yes." She nodded.
"Whatever information you're trying to pass across that I'm just not understanding now, I'll advise you stop mentioning it because it's not possible. As it is, I don't wish for us to have any visitor talk more of someone you claim is here to stay. So I want to ask, are you pranking me?"
"No, am not." She sighed. As expected, her son is proving difficult to her acceptance. "I told you of her before making any step. I informed you soon, I'd be bringing a lady over. This is not a prank because I've had enough of the fruitless woman under this roof, Steele."
Alpha Steele's jaw ticked. "I knew we are still coming to her topic. You have had a problem with her from the onset? No, please tell me. If not that, I don't understand what makes you certain she's fruitless."
At the junction, he just wants to disappear from his mother's sight. He'd be lying if he was to say he's expecting an argument from this night.
"The physician is what makes me certain she's fruitless. He's our pack's physician, you know. Oh, you weren't there? No wonder you've been at loggerheads with me on this issue since you've brought her back. We can call the physician to come over tomorrow, for you to hear things yourself. If you wish."
She shrugged confidently. He doesn't seem to know what she's saying but now, she's ready to prove it.
"I'm not hearing anything. I don't even want to argue with you mother, cause I don't know when all this daily arguments started. We were never fucking this way!" He half yelled before he could stop himself. His fingers cracked as he curled them into fists.
"So you knew we were never this way?" She gave the I-told-you look before signalling Ava to the exit. "Excuse us for a while, darling."
When the door closed behind her, she continued. "That was what I've been meaning to make you see. How peaceful we were before. But now, it's you raising your voice at me, Steele. Thank the moon goddess you're aware now."
"I'd like you to take a look at where it all began too. Make amend, and chase Alexia out of this house and we'd be the perfect family we once were. Your father shouldn't come back and learn of how we've been living."
Her persuasion has Alpha Steele cracking up for the first time in years.
"Anything but what you just mentioned and I'll be ready to do it. What wrong did I do? I found my mate and you think it's wrong I did what others have been rightfully doing for their mates which is bringing them to their home?"
"You did the right thing but now it's becoming the total wrong. When your so called mate refuses to be fruitful, I showed you the right path. What all other wolves have been doing, and you don't even need to go out of your way to do it yourself, I got the breeder for you, myself. I went through the trouble so what's the problem?" She placed her arms at at akimbo.
For a second, Alpha Steele seemed to be budging until he wasn't no more.
"I can't leave my mate." As he stormed out and slammed the door behind him, he thundered. "That's. The. Fucking. Problem!"
