48. I'm such a fucking idiot.
"My King, could I say something?" Anto instantly dropped on his knee, bowing his head in front of the highest Royalty.
Eros was pissed; his movements weren't gentle, human alike- all of them were harsh and rushed. The man let his beast take over his senses, it was a rare phenomenon, yet it did happen time by time. Some people were too weak to hold their wolves back, yet such action could be lethal for the Royals. An enraged beast, righting their way over one's mind and senses, could kill the human in them. Eros was strong enough to keep Ares under control- he has the one responsible for their thoughts while Ares moved the body.
"Fuck off, Watcher. You're on your fucking Queen's side, aren't you? Of course, you are- she is one you have to protect. I saw you two, leaning close to each other like lovers. God, it's a good thing I decided to come and check if she's alright. Who's the father, Eve? Who is it? Just tell me, and the fucker is as good as dead." Eros growled, slowly walking towards his mate. For some reason, the woman seemed unfazed; she didn't move or cry out in agony. Eve didn't try to prove him otherwise, a matter of fact- she sat there, as silent as never. To top it off, she had the nerve to look into his eyes, not averting her gaze even for a second.
"Nothing is happening between the Queen and me, my King. I am her Watcher, yes, but she requested a friend, so I am trying to be one. My purpose is to serve, not destroy the beautiful things created; I couldn't do such things even if I wanted to, your highness." Anto replied, doing his best to stay respectful, never changing the tone of his voice. The Watcher knew that sometimes if one acted calmly, it did calm others around them as well.
"So, you admit that you would love to fuck my wife, huh?" Eros snarled, stomping towards the kneeling Watcher. He was about to extend his claws and leave some severe scars on the male's body when Eve stood up and screamed at him.
"Eros Azrea fucking Ares Frost, don't you dare!" She slowly walked towards the man, who claimed to love her beyond limits, yet accused of cheating without proof.
"I shouldn't dare to do what? What, Eve? Are you suddenly turning your back on me for your lover? So much for being a fucking mate; if I knew things would end like this, I would rather die than fuck a human. It's such a pity to waste a majestic beast on you." Eros was long lost and gone; his common sense disappeared in the hurt of possible betrayal. The jealousy clouded his mind; at this point, the King didn't listen to words he said.
"During these years, I had to put up with so much bullshit from you. I can't believe that I'm still standing here. I can't believe that I haven't turned my back on you completely, because you disgust me. As a man, ruler, leader, and fucking persona. Don't mind me, the last thing I will do here is saving my friend from your stupid accusations and leave. You didn't need a mate, wasteful human at that so that you won't have any." Eve wanted to cry, slap Eros back to senses, and scream, but she didn't. His words cut her deeper than any wound ever did, and the woman didn't want to put up with the insane behavior. Eve knew who she was and who was the father of her baby; she wouldn't even think of cheating, let alone doing that.
"Take your loverboy and leave for all I care. One warning= come close to this castle, any of you, and I will kill you. Eve, I never thought of hurting you, but now I am ready to destroy everything in my way for your betrayal. Take this chance, for you won't have more in the future." Eros tried to turn his back to her and leave the study. He could feel how the walls were closing in on him. The King needed time on his own, without any reminder about the painful events back in the castle. First, the deadly sin deems to mark his daughter, and now his mate carried a child, which wasn't his. The only good thing was that Bea had so many nannies around her; she wouldn't find a time to wander around the castle and hear her parents arguing. Before the male could step closer to the door, the small, gentle hand of his mate landed on his shoulder. Eros froze on the spot, sighing in disappointment. Couldn't she take a hint and leave?
"What?" The King growled.
"Before I follow your commands like the good, obedient bitch you want me to be, I shall speak. You had your time to talk and drop all those accusations on me, so it's only fair if I state my thoughts. Haven't you forgotten something? One is innocent until proven to be guilty, isn't that so? Now, be a man and listen, because when I'm done, I'll leave. And I will take my baby with me." Eve spoke sternly, her body didn't shake in anger, and her words didn't mix into weird sentences. That woman had grown into a true Queen; Eros had to give her as much credit.
"You're not taking my daughter with you. I won't allow my blood to grow into your whore ways." Eros tried to fight against her even more, nearly raising a hand at her. When the male registered what he was about to do, he stepped back, looking down at his hands in shock.
"Sit back, if needed, because what I am about to tell you might shock you. No, this will not be what you think. I am not going to admit to being disloyal and cheating on you. Sure, I might have been a pain in your ass lately, but I do have a reason for the behavior as well." Eve spoke slowly, ignoring the statement Eros had made just seconds ago. She didn't feel anything when she called her names, especially now. Stress wasn't good for the baby, so she wouldn't put her child under a risk just because of her mate's sick jealousy.
"Of course you wouldn't admit cheating on me. Cheaters never admit their doings, even if they have spent years in marriage as we did. I could expect so many things from you, but not this. Eve, this was the last time you disappointed me." The King stopped Eve mid-sentence, pointing out how important his opinion had to be. Eros did sit down, his eyes focused on the Queen and her Watcher. Even if she didn't lie about their closeness, even if the Watcher was telling the truth- he still had no reason to trust both.
"You see, I can't talk if you don't bother to drop your stupid ego and behave like a kid. Sit there, be pretty, and listen." Eve's voice became a tone deeper, her beast fighting her way to the surface. The Queen reminded her about the baby so that the power exchange would end, and all she could do is sit back and listen. The beast did promise Eve to stay close, in case she needed her.
The King growled, showing off his dissatisfaction and crossed his arms in front of his chest, sowling like a kid.
"First of all, earlier, we fought about my behavior, which didn't seem to satisfy your standards. Tell me, how am I supposed to act when I find out that I'm carrying a child, yet this time I've put the innocent pup under danger because I didn't know about its existence? I am a mother, and I understand that you know how protective we become as parents since you're a father. But one thing you shall never know is the bond between mother and child. The fear, emotions, and complete desperation at the moment when you think that you have hurt the most precious thing you have. The one whose life you value more than your own. Being a mother seems to be all fun and games, but it isn't; it's a crazy roller coaster with ups and downs, topped with an insane amount of fear you can't fight.
For your accusations- I did not cheat, I did not see any other men, and I certainly am not a whore. I'm sure that your birth mother was an amazing woman, and I'm genuinely sorry that you never got to see her. If you ever did, perhaps she would teach you simple things such as respect. You have no responsibility to respect me as a person or woman, but you have to show me enough respect since I am the mother of your children. Without me, you wouldn't have Ally and Bea, and for that, I do deserve as much as polite behavior around me. The reason why I've been seeing the doctor was simply out of fear that I hurt the child. I'm sure you're wondering how on Earth could I manage to do that since I don't do shit around here and grow my ass by sitting around, right? Eeek, wrong, my lovely King. I have shifted during pregnancy, which is lethally dangerous for the children women carry. All shifter women have knowledge of dangers and risks if they do shift during pregnancy. I'm sure you're slowly putting two and two together by now, and you're right. The baby is yours, my dear mate, I fell pregnant the night you turned me.
Now, since you have the story, and since I don't care if you believe in my words or not, let me use the moment and tell you some more things. I don't appreciate being called a bitch, cheater, and a whore. I don't accept living under one roof with a man who nearly hit me because he has a wild fantasy. By any means, I will not stay by the side of the man who can't listen or would accuse me of doing vile things. Now, since you were kind enough to throw me out of your life, don't mind me as I do leave." Eve smiled at shocked Eros. The King kept opening and closing his mouth, but not a sound would escape his lips.
The Queen turned her attention to Anto, motioning him to get back on his feet. "Anto, could you please walk me to my bedroom and guard the door while I grab some necessities? I'm sure at least half of the castle servants and wolves heard the King screaming at me; why don't we give them something more to talk about." Eve smiled, nudging the male to start walking. Before they left the study, the Queen made sure to emphasize her words when she spoke about the importance of keeping Eros away from her.
She closed the study door, leaving stunned Eros frozen on the spot. As she walked side by side with Anto, they met little Bea near the Queen's bedroom.
"Mommy!" The child ran at Eve, opening her arms to catch her mother in a loving hug. Eve smiled down at her youngest daughter, gladly returning the hug. "Are you going somewhere, mommy?" Eve was sure that the question was asked more as if she would need some rest, or perhaps she was about to work in the main office.
"I am, baby. Mommy has some things to do outside the castle. Would you like to go on an adventure with mommy, or would you prefer staying with daddy and looking after him?" Despite the statement she made earlier, Eve knew that Eros was an amazing father, and the decision would be left up to their kids. If Bea wanted to leave with Eve, she would be more than happy, but if the little girl wanted to stay with her father- that might be a good thing as well. Outside the castle walls was another world, too dangerous for such a young girl.
"I wanna stay with daddy! We will bake cookies and wait for you to come back home!" Bea exclaimed excitedly. Eve couldn't admit that she wouldn't return to the castle, so the woman just smiled and nodded at her daughter. Both Anto and Eve watched how the little girl run to her nannies, demanding for more cookies.
"You will miss her, won't you?" Anto questioned Eve, stepping a little closer to bring the Queen out of her trance.
"Yes, I will. I'm her mother, remember? But I have to do what's best for us and give her a chance to choose what's better. He will take good care of her; I know that." Eve wiped her tears and rushed to the bedroom, leaving Anto behind the door. Many people passed it, questioning if they might talk to the Queen, all of them were sent away within seconds.
Eve gathered the essential things, threw them in a backpack, and opened the door to hand it to Anto. "Just a second, one more thing left to do," she whispered, waiting for his nod.
Quickly, the Queen tiptoed to the bathroom, opening one of the drawers and reaching for the little blue box. Inside of that was a wrapped pregnancy test, under which laid a beautifully written note, "it's a boy." She wanted to surprise Eros as soon as she found out, but first, the Queen had to make sure that their baby was healthy.
She left the box on their bed and took one last look around their bedroom. The woman will miss the closeness and comfort her mate always gave her, but it didn't mean that she wouldn't be able to live without him anymore. Eve left the room, closed the door behind her, and nodded at Anto, ready to leave. They noticed the King rushing upstairs, so Eve decided to use the back exit to avoid running into Eros. None of them rushed; it was decided that the Queen would leave, and her mate didn't seem to mind. He wanted to see her go in the first place. Anto explained to Eve where they should go, probably reminding her about distant memories regardless of her first pregnancy.
As soon as they reached the gate, guards didn't want to let both pass, even when Eve demanded them to step aside. She couldn't understand why they were behaving like that until she heard the monstrous growl behind her. Eros.
"I'm not letting you leave again, Eve. I can't lose you as I lost you nearly fourteen years ago! I'm sorry, I'm such a fucking idiot!" The King yelled. Eve turned around, ready to glare at him, but the first thing that came in view was the little blue box Eros was holding against his chest.
Perhaps leaving it on the bed was a bad idea.
