31. The karma.
**Eros**
He ran faster than ever before, even knowing that it was impossible- Eros felt like he was losing the ability to breathe. For the first time in years, he felt tired. He was exhausted from everything- starting with his mate, who was still refusing to trust him, closely followed by his mother's behaviour. The harder Eros tried, the harder it backfired on him, leaving the young man confused and debating whether he had made the right decisions. As he approached the packhouse, he noticed how deserted it felt around there. Not a single soul lingered outside, making him suspicious- no guards, no servants, or gardeners. He ran straight into the building, up the stairs, knowing exactly where he would find his mother. If he was lucky, she would be alone. Eros didn't feel the need to talk about private matters in front of Alpha. Xavier had always been way too noisy for his own good. He stood by her bedroom door, breathing heavily, and debating whether to knock or just break the door down. Not surprisingly, he chose to invite himself in, forgetting any politeness. He kicked the door with such strength that it flew open with a loud bang.
"Who the fuck gave you the right to enter my bedroom?" His mother was sat on the bed and she jumped to her feet as Eros came into view, looking as intimidating as never. Luna knew that she shouldn’t show weakness, and even though she felt trapped, like a wild animal in a cage, she had to act like his sudden appearance didn’t affect her. Mentally, she cursed the whole world; first, the elders arrived, and now Eros is here. Could this day get any worse?
"You," he chuckled.
"I don't remember sending out an invitation with your name on it," she smirked, crossing her arms in front of her chest. She was sure, when it comes to talking- she would always win any argument in her way.
"Well then, I'm crashing the party then, I guess they have lost my invitation in the mail," the smirk on his face grew wider. Instead of standing in the doorway, Eros walked into her bedroom. He dropped his large body into the armchair, right in front of her. Both of them held tense eye contact, wondering which one would give up first. This was a game of power, and despite Luna's desire to win, both of them were well aware of who would win.
"Smart-ass, look, I don't have much time to waste here, so answer my damn question before you get yourself into deep shit." She looked down at her wrist, noticing that her watch had stopped. Excellent, on top of everything that had happened today- even time seemed to be against her.
"I did answer your question, Mother."
"No, you didn't. You keep playing your fucking games, acting like you own the world. Now let me ask you again- who the fuck gave you the right to enter my bedroom?" Her face flushed in anger; Luna couldn't let her emotions take over her ability to think rationally.
"And I told you. Should I explain why the answer is what it is, Mother?" Eros was way too calm, making Luna question his intentions and why he arrived in the first place. She was a little worried- her son might have found out what she did. But how could he? That girl, even though a human, could not possibly be dumb enough to betray the Luna. Nobody in their right mind would even think of doing that, let alone acting on it.
"Stop playing with my mind and explain. I have no time and energy to argue with you today. Actually, why don't you reach out to my secretary and schedule a meeting with me, as other pack members do," she sighed, trying to look calm on the outside. Truthfully, Luna needed more time to come up with an excuse. If she's getting close to being caught red-handed, she needed an alibi.
"You gave me the right when you gave birth to me. In case, if you had forgotten- I am your son, and I should have the right to visit you, whenever I feel like it," Eros wanted to piss her off, he wanted his mother to stay on a knife edge and confess her doings.
"This bullshit again. Alright, speak, tell me everything you have to say and leave."
"You lied," he smiled widely, leaning his head back, enjoying the shock written all over his mother's face.
"I-I didn't. What the Hell are you talking about?" She became more nervous, biting her lower lip, her eyes scanning the room anxiously. Luna had to figure out what he was talking about, she had lied countless times, about a lot of important matters. If it's just an innocent lie- she's safe. If he's talking about her plan and actions- she's as good as dead.
"My mate. Boyfriend. She's leaving me. Running away with another male. Do these words mean anything to you, or should I refresh your memory, Mother?" He stood up, stepping closer to her. Luna could feel the anger and hurt radiating from his body, nearly crushing her. Either way, she had no way out of the situation, and all she was left with was facing her biggest fear. Each step he took closer to her, made her take one back, and she ended up falling back onto the bed. She looked up at the enormous male, her son, with such hatred in her eyes, it almost felt impossible for her to be his biological mother.
"Entertain me," she spat at him with all her might. Maybe she was trapped, but she would rather die than give up on her act. She is Luna, she is the one to rule over him, and command him around like a puppet- not the other way around.
"Gladly. I'm sure you remember our last meeting, during which you told me all those amazing lies about my Evangeline. I'm also sure that you'll act as if you have no idea what I'm talking about, so instead of wasting more time, I'll remind you of a few of them. For example- her using my trust to run away with a human. Wasn't that something you said? Her being in a relationship with the said human, for a couple of years. Weren't those the words which left your lips, mother?" Eros kept growing and snarling as he spoke. He knew he couldn't trust his mother, yet he kept trying, hoping that his mother was a changed woman, trying to improve the relationship with her son. He was so wrong that it hurt him to even think about how stupid he was to believe her words.
"I told you what the human told me. I am nothing but a messenger between two persons. Believe it or not, I did it for you! Can't you see that you're changing? I don't know you anymore; she's the worst thing that ever happened to you!" she yelled back at him, driven by rage. Luna couldn't admit that she was caught up in her lies, but she wouldn't back down, even if her life depended on it. She was the type of person who tended to believe their lies and live with them like it was the most natural thing.
"I'm changing?" He laughed coldly. "Of course, I am. You noticed changes because she made my beast, and me stronger. You're feeling inferior in front of me, and that is scaring you shitless, that's the only reason you keep "helping" me," his eyes became darker, and Luna crawled backward instinctively, falling from the bed. She couldn't face the beast, not now. He would recognize the wolf who left him as a cub, almost throwing him out like rubbish. Luna opened and closed her mouth, debating whether she should say something or keep quiet. Either way, she was already in deep trouble, no matter how much effort she would put in to get out of it. Just as she decided to try and talk, maybe calm him down- the Alpha entered their bedroom, a puzzled look on his face.
"What the fuck happened here?" He growled, lowering his voice as his eyes landed on the outraged Eros. He scanned the room, noticing his mate on the floor, her face pale, almost unrecognizable. The Alpha instantly rushed towards her, helping Luna to back on her feet. Her whole body shook with fear. Xavier knew that Eros wouldn't be reacting like this if she hadn't done something again. Despite his hatred towards his mate's child, the Alpha noticed a couple of things about him as the man was growing up. Eros was not one to arrive without being invited. He never approached any room other than their office. Alpha knew he couldn't change whatever she did, but he had to stay by her side, no matter what. She was his mate, and Xavier's primary duty was to keep her safe.
"What happened here?" Alpha asked, trying to collect himself, and sound as professional as he could.
"Nothing much, really, almost snapped Mother's neck," Eros smiled rather kindly. Any outsider would consider his words a cruel joke, but Xavier knew better; the man, in front of him, was speaking nothing but the truth.
"And why might I ask? Listen, I had a long day, and I'm not in the mood to deal with temper tantrums, doesn't matter if they're yours or my mates. Drop this shit, go back home, sleep it off, and let's meet in my office tomorrow," Xavier offered, thinking twice before the words left his lips. He had to sound like a peacemaker, not like the coward he was. The last thing he wanted was to get into a fight with Eros- both of them were well aware who would lose. Eros nodded his head, ignoring growls and snarls from Ares. His beast was deeply displeased by the opportunity taken away from him. Eros kept trying to feel something towards his mother, no matter how difficult she made his task. On the other hand, Ares didn't care- the beast hated the woman who gave birth to him, wishing for nothing more than to bathe in her blood.
"I didn't do anything; he tried to attack me, Xavier. Get him out of here, I don't want to see that face ever again," the Luna said, as always, pulling out the victim card. Xavier didn't get to answer as Eros laughed. His cold, vicious laughter echoed throughout the packhouse, shaking the window frames. He wasn't just Eros anymore; he was Ares, a vicious beast who was craving for Luna's blood to be spilled across the room.
"Eros, Ares, please, just leave this matter. We will discuss her punishment tomorrow, then you will explain what she did," Xavier pleaded. The safest outcome for them both, would be to get Eros out of there. Silently, he kept begging the Moon Goddess to answer his prayers and make Eros leave. Miracles do happen; the young man turned his back to them and headed for the door. Before leaving, he stopped in the doorway and sighed.
"What will happen, when the karma comes back to bite you, Mother?"
