Chapter 147 I Also Know Fred
Eric walked over with Kyle in tow.
"Well, look who it is," David said, recognizing them instantly. He'd just been mocking them at the bar.
With a smug grin, he looked Eric up and down. "What do you want?"
Eric, unfazed, replied, "Just letting you know, she's my girl. So, back off."
The crowd around them gasped.
"Did he just tell David to back off? Did I hear that right?"
"Who is this guy? Is he from Silverbrook University? He must not know who David is!"
"Look at them! Do they really think they can take on David for a girl? They're toast!"
The students from Silverbrook College of Finance eyed Eric with pity.
Talking to David like that? Eric was asking for trouble.
David's face darkened, but he kept his cool, trying to impress Tina.
"First come, first served, right? You can't just waltz in and tell me to back off. Who do you think you are?" David sneered.
"She's my girlfriend. Is that good enough for you?" Eric shot back, still smiling.
"Your girlfriend? You think you deserve her? Calling her your woman? What a joke!" David laughed.
The crowd nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, look at his clothes. Does he really think he stands a chance?"
"We wouldn't even try to compete with David. What makes him think he can?"
Eric's outfit was the scruffiest in the room. No one else dared to challenge David for Tina, so they couldn't fathom where Eric got his confidence.
Tina shook her head, thinking, 'Eric, you're broke and powerless, yet you dare to challenge David? You're really overestimating yourself.'
David turned to Tina. "He says you're his girlfriend. Is that true?"
Tina hesitated, then said, "No, it's not."
Eric's heart sank at her words.
David smirked and turned back to Eric. "Did you hear that? She said 'no.' What else do you have to say? Look at yourself. Do you really think you deserve someone like her?"
Eric, his face grim, ignored David and walked straight towards Tina.
"What do you think you're doing? Stop right there!" David blocked his path.
He turned to Tina. "Don't worry, I won't let him bother you."
"Get out of my way! I'm not here to argue with you!" Eric snapped, glaring at David.
David's anger flared. "How dare you talk to me like that? Do you really think I won't beat you up?"
"Beat me up? Go ahead, try it," Eric challenged, squinting at David.
David raised his fist.
"David!" A member of the Silverbrook College of Finance student council rushed over to intervene.
"David, Green Hill Resort is owned by Mr. Baker. If you cause trouble here and make him mad, it won't end well," the student council member warned.
"Relax, I know Fred. If he were here, he'd probably call security to help me deal with this guy!" David said arrogantly.
"That's funny. I know Fred too. If he were here, he'd call me Mr. Phillips," Eric sneered.
"What? Fred calls you Mr. Phillips? What a joke!" David laughed out loud.
The crowd burst into laughter. Seeing Eric's shabby clothes, they figured he was the worst-dressed guy in the room.
They thought, 'Did he just say he knows Fred? And that Fred would call him Mr. Phillips? What a joke!'
Everyone thought Eric was full of it.
Fred's family was worth over three billion dollars. In Silverbrook, Fred's wealth was almost untouchable.
Even Tina shook her head, thinking, 'Eric, just because you pretended to be my boyfriend once and met Fred at dinner, you think you can brag about knowing him? And say he'd call you Mr. Phillips?'
She was disappointed in Eric.
Just then, Eric's phone rang. It was Fred.
He answered, "Hey, Fred."
"Mr. Phillips, I just got back to Green Hill Resort and saw your car in the lot. Are you here?" Fred's voice came through the phone.
"Yeah, I'm here," Eric replied.
"Mr. Phillips, you should've told me you were coming. I would've welcomed you personally. Where are you? I'll come find you right now!" Fred sounded respectful.
"I'm in Ballroom No. 2," Eric said calmly.
"Got it, Mr. Phillips. I'll be right there!"
After hanging up, David sneered, "Who were you talking to?"
"That was Fred," Eric said, still calm.
"Fred called you? You really know how to spin a tale!" David laughed loudly.
The crowd joined in, not believing for a second that Fred would call someone dressed like Eric.
"I'm not making this up. Not only did he call, but he's also on his way here to see me," Eric said, unfazed.
The crowd laughed even harder.
David's patience wore thin. "Enough with the lies. Apologize and leave the party, and I might let this slide."
Eric's eyes narrowed. "I'm giving you one last chance. Get out of my sight, or face the consequences."
David's face turned red with anger. "If I don't teach you a lesson today, you'll never understand who you're dealing with!"
"Don't stop me! All of you! I'm gonna beat him up!" David shouted, shoving the student council member aside and swinging his fist at Eric.
Eric dodged to the left, avoiding the punch. He grabbed a beer bottle from a nearby table and, without hesitation, smashed it over David's head.
Blood started pouring from David's head.
"You wanna fight me? Let's see who comes out on top," Eric said coldly.
The crowd erupted in shock.
"He actually hit David? This guy's got guts!"
"He's done for! He's absolutely done for! He'll pay a heavy price for this!"
The students from Silverbrook College of Finance knew David's background well. They couldn't believe Eric had the nerve to hit him with a beer bottle.
They thought Eric was finished.
Even Tina was stunned. She never expected Eric to smash a rich guy's head with a beer bottle. In her eyes, Eric was just a poor guy. How could he handle the fallout?
David wiped the blood from his forehead. Seeing the bright red blood, rage flashed in his eyes.
