Chapter 148 Fred Appears
"No one's ever had the guts to hit me before. You're toast! I'll make sure you pay for this!" David's eyes were practically on fire.
David was super proud. Getting smacked by the scruffy-looking Eric in front of everyone? No way he could let that slide.
Right then, seven or eight guys stepped out from the crowd and headed over to David.
"David, you good?" they asked, one after another.
Clearly, these were David's crew.
"Forget about me. Take him down!" David almost shouted.
"Don't worry, David. He had the nerve to hit you; he's not leaving here without a limp!" one of his buddies said.
In no time, those guys grabbed beer bottles from the table, smashed them, and waved the jagged edges like weapons.
"You've got some nerve hitting David. You're done for today!" they said, closing in on Eric.
"Eric, this is gonna be rough," Kyle said, grabbing a beer bottle too, ready for the fight.
There were a bunch of students from Silverbrook University around, but no one stepped up to help Eric.
The reason was simple: Eric's background was still a mystery. Some said Eric was loaded, while others thought he was a con. They weren't sure about Eric, but David was definitely rich. They had no ties to Eric, so who'd risk pissing off a rich guy to help him? Best to just watch from a distance.
"Wait a minute!" A sharp voice cut through the tension.
Eric saw that it was Tina speaking.
"What are you doing?" David looked confused, not getting Tina's angle.
Tina stood up and walked over. "David, do me a favor and let him go. I don't have anything to do with him, but I hate watching fights!"
Eric was a bit surprised Tina was stepping in for him.
"Tina, you just said you had nothing to do with me, and now you're here to save me?" He looked at her.
"Didn't I say? I hate fights and don't want to see anything too bloody. That's it. Don't overthink it; I'm not trying to help you!" Tina said coldly.
David spoke up, "Since you asked, of course, I'll give you face."
Then he turned to Eric. "You're lucky today. Get lost!"
David, wanting to impress Tina, decided to let Eric go for now, planning to get back at him later.
Eric sneered at David, "David, you don't get it. I'm the one who won't let you go, got it?"
The crowd erupted in shock.
"He's really asking for it! He had the chance to leave, and he still talks like that?" The onlookers stared at Eric like he was nuts.
"See? You wanted to help him, but he doesn't appreciate it," David said to Tina.
Tina stomped her foot in anger.
"Eric, you're really asking for it. Fine! You want to show off? Then I won't interfere. Let's see how you handle this mess!" she said angrily.
With that, she walked away.
"Get him! Beat him to death!" With no one stopping him, David gave the order again.
Those guys around David charged at Eric once more.
"Stop!" A loud shout suddenly rang out.
Everyone turned towards the voice.
The crowd parted, leaving a wide path.
Standing before them was a man in a suit with a buzz cut, over twenty-five years old, exuding an extraordinary presence as he walked.
He was Fred, the owner of Green Hill Resort!
"Mr. Baker!" David and Tina immediately recognized Fred. So did some others in the crowd.
"It's Mr. Baker!"
"This is the famous Mr. Baker! Finally, we get to see him!"
"Why is Fred here all of a sudden?"
The crowd buzzed with excitement, and word of Fred's arrival spread like wildfire.
Under everyone's watchful eyes, Fred walked briskly towards Eric, a big smile plastered on his face.
"Mr. Phillips, sorry for the lack of hospitality," he said, all respectful.
"Hello, Mr. Phillips!" The staff Fred brought along also greeted Eric.
Everyone was stunned. 'What's going on? This can't be real.'
Fred's family was big in Aurora Bay, with assets over three billion dollars. Fred was a big deal among the younger crowd in Silverbrook.
And here he was, showing mad respect to Eric?
Everyone remembered Eric saying he knew Fred and that Fred would have to call him 'Mr. Phillips' respectfully.
They thought it was a joke. But now, it seemed Eric was telling the truth.
They couldn't wrap their heads around what kind of power Eric must have to make Fred bow to him!
David's eyes were wide with disbelief. And Tina was the most shocked, for she always thought Eric was just some poor guy. But this scene blew her mind!
In the middle of the crowd, Fred asked Eric, "Mr. Phillips, I saw some commotion here, like a fight was about to break out. What's going on?"
"David was about to have his people attack me." Eric pointed ahead.
Fred looked at David.
"Mr. Baker," David quickly greeted Fred, looking all anxious and uneasy.
"David, you really have some nerve, daring to attack Mr. Phillips. Do you even know who he is?" Fred scolded him sternly.
"Mr. Baker, who exactly is he?" David was desperate to know what kind of status Eric had that made Fred so respectful.
Everyone around also looked at Fred, dying to know.
"This is Eric, the chairman of the Power Group's Silverbrook Branch!" Fred announced.
"What? He's the new chairman of the Power Group? Sean's own grandson?" David stared at Eric, eyes full of fear.
He'd heard his dad, Elijah Carter, mention that the new chairman of the Power Group was Sean's own grandson, but he didn't know it was Eric.
"What? He's the grandson of the richest man, Sean!"
Eric's identity revelation sent shockwaves through the crowd!
Everyone knew about the richest man, Sean.
They realized that the Eric they had mocked earlier was actually Sean's own grandson, and they felt quite shocked!
"So, Eric is Sean's own grandson!" The students from Silverbrook University were also super shocked.
Before this, they were always unsure if Eric was really wealthy or not.
Now they knew Eric was indeed Sean's own grandson. And with Fred announcing it, no one doubted it.
The female students were especially starry-eyed. They hadn't expected that this dance would reveal a hidden wealthy individual. If they had known earlier, they would've definitely asked Eric to dance.
At this moment, David was trembling uncontrollably, clearly scared.
"Mr. Phillips, I didn't know your identity and offended you. Please forgive me!" he begged Eric for mercy.
David knew that compared to Sean's own grandson, he was nothing.
The thought of offending such a powerful figure made his heart race.
"I'm not in the mood to waste words with you. Get lost immediately! And don't let me see you again!" Eric said coldly.
Because of Tina, Eric was in a bad mood.
"Yes!" David nodded repeatedly.
Hearing Eric tell him to get lost, he sighed in relief, knowing that if Eric pursued the matter, the consequences would be unbearable.
Immediately, David and his people left the ballroom.
At this moment, Tina stood up!
