Chapter 10 Many People Like Sierra
In the following days, Sierra was very busy. She met with Lucas Rodriguez, a capable lawyer who helped her sort out her thoughts after just a few meetings in his spacious and bright office. After carefully reviewing the materials submitted by Sierra, Lucas smiled gently and said, "You were introduced to me by Eric. Let me give you an idea of what to expect - if we're optimistic, we can get your sentence reduced to two years."
Sierra's mood was complicated.
Lucas sat comfortably with his hands crossed as he continued to smile: "Eric begged me himself. Why didn't he take on this case? If he did it himself, there would be a good chance of overturning the verdict and being found not guilty."
Sierra couldn't bring herself to say anything about that so she made up an excuse: "Mr. Howard probably doesn't have any free time."
Lucas simply smiled without saying anything.
He politely escorted Sierra to the door where she thanked him for his help but also knew that all these courtesies were due to Eric's face.
As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, someone called out her name.
It was Jason Rodriguez whom she recognized from their previous encounters at parties when she used to hang out with Roger before.
Jason walked up to her and casually asked: "Are you here for business?"
Sierra didn't hide anything from him and replied truthfully: "I'm here looking for Lucas Rodriguez."
Jason laughed and said: "You should've come looking for my dad instead!"
Sierra was taken aback - Jason...was Mr. Rodriguez's son?
Jason was known as a handsome guy back in college but had since started his own trading company at such a young age. He then invited Sierra over for dinner saying they were old acquaintances who could help each other out.
After hesitating briefly, Sierra agreed.
Jason drove up in a flashy red Ferrari and said: "No girl has ever sat in my car before. You're the first one, Sierra."
Sierra felt that getting involved with Jason was somewhat unreliable - he was too enthusiastic! They had only met a few times and barely exchanged any words.
Regardless, she didn't want to offend Lucas's son so she got into the car.
After making sure Sierra fastened her seatbelt, Jason asked: "What do you feel like eating?"
Without being coy, Sierra suggested: "How about Thai food?"
Jason stepped on the gas pedal and they were off.
Sierra remained quiet throughout the ride as all she could think about were details of her case. But Jason didn't bother her at all. He just quietly watched her whenever they stopped at a red light.
He had always liked Sierra but no one knew about it. Not even Roger who left behind many ex-girlfriends whom others coveted. If not for his consideration towards Roger, who knows how many people would have made their move!
Half an hour later, Jason pulled up to a Thai restaurant where there were quite a few customers due to its delicious dishes. He chose a table by the window and when it was time to order food, Sierra took the initiative and said: "Let me treat you!"
Jason smiled and joked: "I never would've guessed that you're such an assertive girl."
Knowing he was teasing her, Sierra replied while ordering food: "Don't make fun of me like that Jason. Treating someone to dinner is nothing special."
Jason then restrained himself.
Sierra treating him to dinner was purely due to his father which he fully understood. He was looking for an opportunity to flirt with her again.
Just then, a handsome man and a beautiful woman walked in at the door. It was none other than Roger and Linda.
Sierra saw them too and immediately covered her face with the menu, thinking to herself: getting involved with Jason is really unreliable!
But Jason was afraid that Roger wouldn't notice him. He took the initiative to greet him: "Roger."
As soon as Roger saw him, his gaze paused - he recognized Sierra sitting across from Jason even though she had covered her face.
Roger frowned: how could Sierra be with Jason?
Jason kindly explained to him: "Sierra asked my dad for help in a lawsuit, so I learned about the case from her."
Men are sensitive creatures. With just a few words, Jason made it clear what he was thinking.
- He likes Sierra! This is his declaration of war!
Roger sneered: "Jason, you're so kind?"
Then he said to Sierra again: "You trust him? You'll end up being sold out by helping him count his money."
Linda's intuition made her uneasy. She asked: "Do you know her, Roger?"
