Chapter 29 Are You Not Fond of Me Anymore?
Sierra went upstairs.
As she reached the second floor, she couldn't help but look down again.
Eric's car was still parked there, a luxurious golden Continental that didn't fit in with the old neighborhood. This wasn't a place where someone like Eric should be seen.
Sierra thought Mr. Howard should be at some high-end social event instead.
Everything that happened tonight felt like a ripple in her life, something to forget after sleeping it off.
Sierra dared not look back and hurried up the stairs.
Eric watched as the lights on the top floor turned on before driving away. Little did he know that another black sports car had been parked nearby for over two hours now, waiting downstairs in the dark.
—How long had Roger waited downstairs while Eric and Sierra were cuddling inside his car?
Roger stepped out of his black vehicle dressed all in black himself. The contrast between his pale handsome face and dark clothes made him even more strikingly attractive as he leaned against his car and lit a cigarette with ease.
The thin smoke wafted gently into the night air before quickly dissipating into nothingness amidst darkness around them.
He saw everything just now.
Roger sneered to himself.
Ha! So Sierra fell for Eric so soon? Wasn't she supposed to love him (Roger) most?
He stared at the lighted window above and made a phone call.
"You can move now!"
After giving instructions over the phone, he hung up coldly and muttered: "This is what you asked for, Sierra!"
...
When Sierra got home and turned on her lights, Olivia came out of her bedroom wearing pajamas.
"Why are you so late?" Olivia sounded reproachful.
Sierra poured herself a glass of cold water but bit her lip without saying anything: "I missed my last bus; I'm sorry I'm late."
Olivia looked at her for a while before saying: "Let me heat up some supper for you."
Sierra felt like Olivia knew something, but she couldn't explain herself. After all, there was nothing between her and Eric, nor would there be any future.
After about five minutes, Olivia brought out a bowl of noodles and placed it on the small table. Sierra was indeed hungry and said softly: "Thank you, Olivia."
Olivia sat across from her with her chin resting on one hand as she watched Sierra eat. It made Sierra feel uneasy.
"What's wrong?" She asked when she noticed how long Olivia had been staring at her.
It seemed like Olivia had been holding back for quite some time before finally asking: "Wasn't it that lawyer surnamed Huo who drove you home? Do you have anything going on with him?"
Sierra replied with an affirmative sound: "We just interacted normally; we probably won't see each other again in the future."
Olivia seemed somewhat disappointed.
On one hand, it was because of George Adler's situation; on the other hand, it was also because of Sierra. For four years now, Roger had poisoned Sierra's mind against men so much that she hoped to find someone better than Roger to put him down once and for all.
Unfortunately...
Sierra knew what Olivia meant by this. She gently held onto Olivia's hand and said: "Don't forget that Mr. Howard is related to Roger sooner or later; I can't even imagine what might happen if they found out about us."
Olivia sighed lightly before adding: "But still...I can't let them take away your food! You smell like smoke too..."
As Sierra took a sip of water, she choked!
She felt embarrassed beyond words.
Back in her room after taking a shower, Sierra tossed and turned in bed unable to sleep as she kept thinking about Olivia's attitude. It seemed like Olivia had accepted the fact that her father would be in jail for two years.
Sierra felt a little sad.
She had thought of getting revenge on Roger, but she knew deep down that she couldn't even make a dent in his armor. Besides, she needed to take care of Olivia who had never experienced any hardships in her life...
Sierra continued to toss and turn until her phone suddenly rang at four o'clock in the morning.
Thinking it was just spam, Sierra picked up her phone intending to delete it when she froze upon seeing who sent it: Eric!
"Are you asleep?" He asked through WhatsApp along with a photo he took from his high-end apartment balcony overlooking New York's busiest street. A tall glass stood on the railing reflecting colorful lights amidst darkness.
