Chapter 39 Eric is Coming Back

Things didn't go as planned. Lucy, Eric's secretary, had a flight delay due to technical issues. She tried calling Eric from the airport lounge, but his phone was turned off during the trial.
It wasn't until noon when the trial ended that Eric received Lucy's message after turning on his phone. He frowned and pondered for a moment. Then Lin, the assistant of his client Mr. Lin, came over and said respectfully: "Mr. Howard, Mr. Lin would like to invite you for a meal."
Eric put away his phone and smiled faintly: "Please thank Mr. Lin for me! I won't have lunch because I have important matters to attend to in New York."
As he spoke, Mr. Lin himself arrived.
The entrepreneur in his forties looked refined and elegant as he shook hands with Eric warmly: "Eric my friend, you were impressive in court today! Since you have important matters to attend to then I won't keep you any longer! Next time when you come to H city please let me show my hospitality."
"Definitely." replied Eric gracefully.
Mr. Lin valued him highly and sent his own driver to take Eric directly to the airport... After being delayed all day long at the airport Lucy decided it was better just taking the same flight back home with Eric.
Before their plane took off again, Eric called Sierra's cellphone once more...
Still switched off!
He frowned, suspecting something must've happened!
New York.
Sierra stayed at home all day long. Olivia kept her company since she was emotionally unstable. At dusk, Sierra cooked dinner for Olivia, and whispered softly while they ate: "I'm going out later, to meet up with a friend Sarah introduced me too. They should be able help us out."
Olivia felt suspicious.
Sierra held her hand tightly: "really! I want give it a try, Olivia."
Perhaps Sierra disguised herself too well, Olivia believed her.
After dinner, Sierra went back to her room and took out a large suitcase from which she retrieved an album. She gently flipped through the pages and found a photo of her mother when she was young.
Sierra caressed it lightly.
Her mother passed away when she was ten years old, and after one year her father married Olivia. Sierra remembered that at that time, her father and Olivia used to argue frequently. One time, Olivia cried so hard and asked him why he treated someone else's child so well but wouldn't even have his own child with her.
That was the moment little Sierra knew she wasn't their biological daughter. She felt scared, worried about being abandoned suddenly. So whenever they didn't fight, she would act spoiled and say that she wanted siblings. But Olivia never got pregnant!
She loved George Adler deeply, and raised Sierra well. Afterwards, she treated Sierra quite nicely. How could Sierra bear to let such a woman sit in jail for ten or eight years?
A tear fell on the photo, but Sierra quickly wiped it off.
At the door, Olivia saw everything. Her eyes darkened as she tried to sound gentle: "Didn't you make an appointment? Tidy up before going out again."
Sierra closed the album carefully. Putting on another set of clothes, she prepared to leave but couldn't help hugging Olivia again. Olivia felt uneasy inside, but when Sierra looked up with a faint smile, saying Sarah's friend Roger is capable enough, Roger should give face, this made Olivia let go of her doubts.
Sierra gently closed the door behind her. She leaned against it for a long while...
This is how I betrayed myself!
By now, it was already dusk. The crimson clouds burned brightly in the sky, giving off both gorgeousness and desolation. Sierra watched quietly for some time before turning around and taking the bus.
When she arrived at Roger's villa, it was already 8 o'clock in the evening. Roger was wearing a three-piece suit and drinking on the sofa. The crystal lamp above reflected luxurious light, making his handsome face even more beautiful!
If it were before, Sierra would have been moved by him. But now, she only felt disgusted.
Roger's voice was hoarse: "Where did you go? I've been calling you all day!"
