Chapter 12 Miss Adler, You're Amazing!

Jason didn't dare to disobey. Although Eric was of the same generation as them, his career was too successful and had completely overshadowed them. Jason signaled to Sierra: "I'll wait for you in the car." Sierra forced a smile.
As Jason left, several police officers noticed what was happening and said with a smile: "Mr. Howard has private matters to discuss, let's clear out."
Sierra remained silent.
When everything around them became quiet, Eric lowered his head and played with his cigarette between his fingers. His long and powerful fingers were charming even in their simple movements.
After a moment, he looked up at her and said: "Miss Adler, you're amazing."
Sierra was stunned for a moment.
She instinctively tried to defend herself: "Today's incident has nothing to do with me..."
"You want to say it has nothing to do with you?" Eric smiled faintly with some mockery in his tone. "Miss Adler, can't you guess why they fought?"
There wasn't any color on Sierra's face.
In front of the powerful Eric, all her explanations seemed weak because if he said something is so then it must be true since he is Eric - one of America's most formidable lawyers. She was just an insignificant weed named Sierra.
Feeling wronged inside but teary-eyed outside she said: "Mr. Howard don't worry; I won't interfere in your sister's love life."
Suddenly standing up straight from where he sat down earlier on the table next to her chair; Eric walked towards her palm extended towards her face while looking down at her condescendingly making Sierra feel humiliated that she turned away from him embarrassedly.
"Eric! You bastard!"
He did not get angry but only focused on looking at her intently instead.
After a long time passed by without anyone speaking, Eric finally spoke softly: "You're not at fault. You just made the mistake of believing in love too much."
Sierra was stunned for a moment.
By the time she regained her senses, Eric had already left.
...
Eric drove attentively.
From time to time he saw his sister leaning on her boyfriend's shoulder with a happy expression through the rearview mirror.
Eric smirked mockingly and parked his golden Continental slowly at the restaurant entrance. Roger got out of the car and bowed to thank Eric before their eyes met with an understanding that only they could comprehend.
Eric nodded slightly then drove away while Linda climbed into the passenger seat beside him.
"Be more elegant," Eric reprimanded his sister.
Linda shrugged it off. "That Miss Adler today was quite pretty!"
Eric rolled down the car window slightly as he suddenly felt hot all over. Linda was still muttering to herself: "She's so pretty, I really suspect that she and Roger have something going on... Luckily, she belongs to Jason." Eric didn't say anything and continued to focus on driving. After a while, he asked Linda in a soft voice: "When are you getting married?" Linda blushed and replied: "It depends on Roger's decision. He is currently focused on his career, so I don't want to bother him too much." They stopped at a red light ahead and Eric turned towards her casually asking: "Does he love you?" Linda answered confidently: "Of course." Eric followed up with another question: "What does he love about you?" Linda wasn't caught off guard and proudly extended her slender white hand listing out the reasons why Roger loves her - good family background, high education level, beautiful appearance, respectable parents and an accomplished older brother... Eric snorted lightly.

Sorry Mr. Howard
