Chapter 13 Are You So Cheap?
Sierra was dragged by Jason to the hospital. Jason knew how to drag things out, and they ended up spending two hours there for a minor injury. He sent Sierra home, and it was already 9 pm.
Sierra wasn't in a good mood, but she still apologized to Jason: "I'm sorry for dragging you into this mess today, Jason."
Jason's mood was more complicated than hers. He thought he had a chance with Sierra after her breakup with Roger, but then Eric appeared out of nowhere. Although Eric seemed serious about Sierra, he couldn't help but eye her up and down when they met briefly earlier that day. As someone who wasn't blind, Jason could tell what was going on.
He didn't dare confront Eric directly because the Howard family held an unrivaled position in New York and Eric himself was not someone to be trifled with. Although he took his relationship with Sierra seriously, he didn't want to involve her entire family just for his own love affair.
Jason looked at Sierra sideways and jokingly said: "Sierra, do you want to go on a date with me?"
With some guidance from Eric earlier that day, Sierra guessed what he meant. She didn't want to hurt Jason's feelings so she shook her head and said: "Jason, I should leave New York when my dad gets out of prison... I don’t have any plans like that right now."
Jason gazed at her quietly before suddenly bursting into laughter - an oddly cute laugh at that - saying: "Just kidding! Did you take me seriously? It’s getting cold outside… hurry back inside! Don’t worry about your uncle; I'll talk to my dad again.”
Sierra appreciated him not being too direct about their situation.
As she got off the car and walked towards the entrance of her house which seemed dimly lit, she realized that the light bulb was out. She took out her phone to turn on the flashlight when someone suddenly hugged her from behind and covered her mouth with a warm hand.
In a moment of confusion, she was dragged into the stairwell.
"Mmm... let me go!" As requested, the man's hands moved away from Sierra’s face before something warm covered her lips. The familiar male scent made Sierra feel dazed - it was Roger...
Sierra bit him and slapped him hard across his face. Suddenly all the lights in the hallway turned on at once.
Exhausted, she leaned against the wall and gasped for air like a dying fish while Roger glared at her angrily: "Are you so cheap that anyone can have you?"
Looking up with hot eyes, Sierra smiled instead of getting angry: "Yes! I am cheap! Anyone but you can have me... Are you satisfied with this answer, Roger?"
Roger's expression grew even darker as he grabbed Sierra by the neck and veins bulged on his forehead: "How dare you!"
"How could I not? You've caused me so much misery! What else do I have to lose?"
Suddenly releasing his grip on her neck, Roger pulled out an empty cigarette box from his pocket and crushed it before looking back at Sierra again: “Leave New York! I'll buy you a villa; Mr. Adler will be fine!”
Sierra trembled with anger as she questioned him through quivering lips: “Did you set all this up just to make me your mistress? You're really cruel, Roger!”
With an indifferent look on his face, Roger replied coldly: "Sierra, there is no benefit in opposing me! I have many ways to deal with you."
Olivia appeared in the hallway holding a mop. She started hitting Roger wildly without hesitation.
As someone who knew how important social status was in New York, Roger didn't fight back against a woman. Olivia was panting and cursing: "Son of a bitch! If you dare to harass Sierra again, I'll kill you!"
Sierra's eyes were filled with tears.
Olivia turned around and said softly: "We the Adler family don't sell our daughters."
Across from her, Roger gave a cold smile.
