CHAPTER 28

A SECOND CHANCE.
Ava moved closer to where Alpha Kane's body was lying. She watched him closely as she tried to calm herself down but
she realised that he was not breathing.

Adrenaline was suddenly released on her lower belly and that made her body weak.

Alpha Kane's eyes were closed and his stomach was bigger because of swallowing too much water. Ava remembered the first aid for drowning hence she started pressing on it hoping that he would come around .

Ava was sweating and her body was shaking but the love that she has for him made her go on. Her wolf was praying that she never loses him. This is her only chance to make things right between the two of them, of course after he recovers and to fix the love that they had for each other.

Ava kept on doing it with tears in her eyes but Alpha Kane did not respond. She was about to give up when he suddenly coughed.

Ava was instantly filled with so much happiness. She found herself smiling amidst the tears. It is clear that the world has given her a second chance to fix her relationship with Alpha Kane.

She kissed him on the forehead when he closed his eyes once again, to rest. His heart was still beating and Ava was more than grateful.

She pulled him to a safe space away from the water. She needed to take him back to the pack so that he could get special care and treatment from the healers or the pack.

Ava could not carry him by herself all the way to the pack. She decided to go back to the pack to get someone who would come with her and help her to carry him back to the pack.

After ensuring that Alpha Kane was okay, she kissed him once again before she turned to her wolf and ran all the way to the pack.

When she was almost there, she switched to her human form and started walking. She did not want anyone to know that she possesses the werewolf powers. If they get to know the truth then they would arrest her and banish her from the pack. It was treason to collaborate with an enemy and in this case, the enemy is Witch Jezebel.

Hardly had she walked for ten minutes into the Pack's area of jurisdiction when she met with Scout Caleb.

"Where do you think you are going ?" Scout Caleb asked her and Ava jutted her eyebrows in surprise. She belongs to this pack and no one is supposed to question her when she goes in or out of the pack jurisdiction.

"Why are you asking me an obvious question? Excuse me,I am in an emergency and I am going to get Beta Ian to help me," Ava said.

"Don't even think about it," Scout Caleb warned.

"What are you talking about?" Ava implored. She was confused.

"Before I tell you what happened. Let me make things clear. I know you fled with Alpha Kane. So, go and tell him that he should never come back to the pack because he has been replaced. " Scout Caleb said.

"What!" Ava gasped. That was impossible. Alpha Kane is the Alpha of Midnight pack. He deserves that position because it belongs to their family line. He inherited it from his father.

"The Alpha is Alpha Ian," Scout Caleb said.

"What! No! That is wrong. He is supposed to be Beta," Ava countered.

"Well things changed and we now know the truth. Alpha Kane broke the pack rules. He knew that you were a witch yet he never banished you. To add on that, he left with you and has never come back to the pack," Scout Caleb explained and this shocked Ava.

A witch? Is she a witch?

"I am a werewolf. Come on. " Ava defended herself.

"Your sister, Luna Cynthia, said that you are a witch with werewolf blood. You do not belong to the pack. " Scout Caleb warned.

"No! " Ava was in denial. She can never be a witch. She is not a horrible person. Witches are horrible people. No, that can't be her. She is a werewolf.

Could it be that Witch Jezebel was telling her the truth all along? No!

Ava shook her head in disapproval.

"You do not belong here. Go away. If someone finds you here, they will take you to Luna Cynthia and Alpha Ian. Trust you me, if that happens, you will rot in jail or worse, banished from the pack or even get killed. The two of them are ruthless and the pack is going through so much right now.

By the way, where is Alpha Kane? The pack needs him more than ever. He needs to find a way to save us," Scout Caleb said.

"I don't know," Ava lied. If he tells the truth that Alpha Kane is at the verge of death because of her, then the pack will want her head to hang on a stick. No one is ever supposed to hurt the Alpha. This will be even a worse offense because Alpha Kane ruled with so much wisdom and he does not have an heir or a brother to replace him,

"If you ever see him. Tell him the pack needs him. We have sent the scouts everywhere to look for him. " Scout Caleb said and Ava's face was instantly drained.

What if the scouts find him where she had left him and they manage to take him away from her? No, she cannot allow that to happen.

Ava started walking away but Scout Caleb chased after her.

"What? Why are you following me? Are you stalking me?" Ava asked.

"Of course not. Anyway, if you ever meet Alpha Kane, tell him that the pack is loyal to him. The pack hates Luna Cynthia and Alpha Ian because of their ruthless leadership and he better come to save them. This is what his dad would expect from him," Scout Caleb advised before setting Ava free.

When Ava was at a fair distance far from where someone could see her, she turned to her wolf and ran all the way to where she had left Alpha Kane. Despite telling herself that she was going to fix everything, she could not help but blame herself for everything that was happening to the pack.

Maybe if she never returned to the pack after going to the city, then none of this would have happened.

Ava told herself that she was not going to tell Alpha Kane the truth about what Scout Caleb said even if it was the right thing to do. She did not want to add him more stress. It would break him even further to know that he had been replaced by his friend Beta Ian as the Alpha of Midnight Pack.

Ava switched to her human form before walking to where she had left Alpha Kane when she suddenly realised that he was nowhere to be seen.

Ava could feel a swarm of butterflies being released on her stomach. She could not believe that this was happening. The Scouts have definitely taken him. There is no possible way that Alpha Kane himself could walk away from where she had left him. He was too weak to even talk let alone walk. Ava paced around as she thought of what next when she decided that she was not going to let him go.

She must fight to be with him till the end. She was not scared of anyone. She would confront the Scouts if she needed to as long as Alpha Kane remained under her care.

Ava transformed into her wolf and started sniffing as he followed Alpha Kanes scent. Something did not feel right however when the scent led her deep into the forest, not towards the pack.

Who might have taken him? Ava thought to herself as she kept on walking. When she finally ended up in the cave. She lost it.

How dare she do this? Hasn't she done enough?

Ava transformed to her human form and stormed into Witch Jezebel's cave.

"What do you think you are doing?" Ava asked when she walked into Witch Jezebel. Ava was literally breathing fire.

"He needed my help and I went there to help him," Witch Jezebel said.

"Stop lying to me. We both know that you wanted to kill him !" Ava shouted.

"Keep it down. You will wake him. Alpha Kane needed a healer and mum was a healer. She taught me how to heal people. I am going to heal him," Witch Jezebel explained.

"If you are doing all this thinking that I will accept your stupid theory then ciynt me out. I am not your sister. Get that out of your head," Ava was in denial. She hated the fact that she might be Witch Jezebel's sister. This reality will complicate things between her and Alpha Kane.

"The earlier you accept it, the better," Witch Jezebel urged.

"Let me be. Where is he? I want to see him now!" Ava ordered as she walked deeper into the cave. She wanted to see Alpha Kane.
