Elder Fiona’s act of treason

Marsai’s POV

Immediately, all I could hear around me was loud heartbeats, I could feel the fear just like the other me that was pinned underneath that monster. The wind had stopped and everything had started to spin…the heartbeats became louder and louder, and I looked at the other me who seemed as overwhelmed as I was but not so overwhelmed to notice the scent that drifted between our noses.

I knew that scent and she did too, because the next thing I heard was..

"My…mate"

So it was true, the universe decided to curse me…Fenrir was my mate.

It became all too much at the moment and soon we were all enveloped by that darkness I knew so well…it was silent, the only words I could hear were my name, Marsai

Marsai

Marsai

"Marsai!"

Gasping, I opened my eyes, light flooding them for a second as I struggled to see. Seated in front of me, peering deep into my face was Elena with a slightly concerned look on her face.

"Oh, good you're awake," she said, sighing as she took a deep breath.

My head had started to ache and I could feel the pain throughout my forehead. I looked around to find that I was on the bed in my old room, my dress had not been changed and my hair was a red wiry mess. I clutched the sheets to find that I could feel and hold them…I was back in the real world.

Elena was the only person here with me, it seemed she had been waiting for me to wake up but certainly not because she was gravely concerned.

My back ached as I wondered how many hours I had been lying there in the same uncomfortable position. My hands went to my hair again, not to push it back but to massage my aching temples.

"Where's Leah?" I asked, suddenly remembering what had happened to her and rightfully concerned about the one person who would actually show more care about my welfare.

"Rudolph came and took her home" Elena said with a sigh, as she stretched.

"Is she okay?" I kept seeing the memory of her being thrown across the hall. I kept hearing the loud thud as her back probably hit one of the stone pillars. Ah, heavens!

"A few injuries but she'll live," Elena shrugged. She had this nonchalant look on her, like she didn't even care. Not like I'd expect her to but for heaven's sake it was her sister who was flung across the hallway, and her face should have shown slight sympathy but she just sat there like it was nothing, How very Elena-like.

I didn't comment on it and instead tried sitting up, leaning heavily on my elbows at first before I propped myself against the pillow, I could now look straight into Elena's face, which wasn't exactly what I wanted but when I did, I could see her fidgeting as if wanting to tell me something.

"Umm..Elena, is everything okay?" I asked, using my fingers to push the mad curl of red hair from my face.

Elena gave a deep sigh that could have come off as something dramatic, "it's just that…like Leah, I hope Elder Fiona is okay"

My brows furrowed at what she had just said…wait…who?

"Elder Fiona? What happened to Elder Fiona?"

Elena raised her eyes to mine, the dark green in hers sparking, "Oh, I don't know if I should tell you…"

"Tell me what?" I asked in deep curiosity and slight panic but Elena kept fidgeting, "Oh, c'mon Elena!"

"Well," she began, "after you fell unconscious, Alpha Fenrir ordered the arrest of Elder Fiona because she...umm… she was planning on helping you escape, " she cleared her throat, "he had her thrown in the dungeon."

What? No! Why would he do that? Why would Fenrir do that!

"Oh, heavens…" I gasped as I ran my hands through my hair in worry. This was all my fault, oh no no, Marsai just look at what you've done.

I have implicated the poor woman who had done nothing but try to help me, to save from this deranged monster I've been cohered into marrying. Memories from the dream flooded my mind, and it made me as upset with him as I was afraid of what he was planning to do to the poor woman.

I looked up to see Elena whose focus was on the embroidery at the front of the lower part of her dress, she looked so calm, so unaffected. Ignoring her, I threw my feet off the bed as I struggled to my feet.

"Marsai, what are you doing?" Elena asked, but I was too busy trying to wear the first pair of shoes I could find by my bedside to answer her. I was going to see the woman who had been affected by my bad luck like so many people. Thinking about it worsens the guilt eating me up, and I silently pray she's okay.

"Marsai?"

"The dungeon, Elena. I'm going to the dungeon," I announced before walking to the door.

"Wait, but why?" Elena asked and I sighed.

"What do you mean, why? I want to see if that innocent woman is okay!" I added before walking out the door. The guilt in my heart won't let me stay here a minute longer knowing she was down there because of me.

I had been rushing swiftly down the hall and was not aware of the next thing that would happen in my room.

As soon as Marsai left, a huge malicious grin spread through Elena's face as she slowly applauded herself for a plan well executed. Arranging her dress, she walked out of my room, down the hall to knock on the Alpha chambers.

"I have urgent matters to discuss with the Alpha, please" she said, waiting for a guard to go in and ask the Alpha whether she should be let in or not. A few moments later, she was walking into the Alpha chambers and was soon standing behind him…Fenrir.

"Milord," she bowed, "I have something important that I'm sure you'd like to hear…" she grinned.
