Panic
Marsai.
Fuck...I'm screwed.
Was that why he was also keeping his distance?
It can't be. It didn't add up, if he knew that I really did try to escape, he should have had my head on a stick. No, he won't go as far as killing me out of range, but I should be in the dungeon by now.
If Clara was telling the truth, which I know she is because no one else was aware of the parcel besides Elena who I gave it to. Clara wasn't here to watch me package the parcel, so she couldn't make it up, I mean why would she?
I shot out of my bed, my once fatigued body now fueled with fear and anxiety. I needed to find Fenrir, he needed to know that I didn't mean to run away..no, that's not smart.
He would think I only came back because I didn't meet Leah at the beta house. He would think I only returned to the Alpha quarters in search for her. What Else could I tell him to convince him otherwise?..
"There is no time to think of what to do.."
I tell myself. He knows already, almost 24 hours now.
Elena..
What the hell did I ever do to her to deserve this?
I left for the washroom to clean up and present myself in the most delectable way. That should at least lessen the amount of damage he would do.
I wore a silk silver dress that hugged my curves in the right ways. Taking a dull white scarf, I tied it round my waist to highlight the dips.
Dashing out of my room, I rushed to the Alpha's room. I took long breaths trying to gather myself, it was the first time that I would be talking to him in a week and two days.
I knocked on his door impulsively. For some seconds, I waited. I tried knocking again but there was no evidence of footsteps, nor could I smell his usual scent that I didn't even know I had registered in my mind. I tried the handle, but it was locked.
I went to Clara. She was in the kitchen preparing lunch already.
"Hey Clara, have you seen the Alpha?" I asked, trying to sound as casual as possible while my heart is jamming against my chest.
"Uh..no, Milady. The last time I saw him was in the morning after breakfast, I haven't run into him since then.." She shook her head. "Is there any way I could help?" She washed her hands into a big bowl, attempting to come to me but I raised my hands.
"Oh please, go on with your work. I'm going to the Beta’s house, if the Alpha ever does come back, send a message guard to get me." I ordered her to go about her day before going down the spiral stairs to meet the passageway guards.
Only two guards were actively stationed at the front and part of them was Gerald.
"Gerald.." I called out to him.
"Luna, Good day…" he greeted, taking a bow.
"Have you seen the alpha?" I inquire, almost cutting him off. He went asking his colleague while I shifted from one foot to the other.
Everything felt like a ticking bomb around me.
Anger and the feeling of impatience was not a good mix for me.
Elena, I knew she could do something like this. I just didn't think she would do it to me.
I have been nothing but nice and trusting of her. She was like a big sister to me, as I didn't have any siblings growing up.
"Milady, the Alpha hasn't been seen this morning. It's almost noon so that means he would probably be off to the borders where his presence was demanded. If he isn't-"
"That's enough Gerald. I will be on my way now. If Alpha Fenrir eventually comes back, do well to send me a message guard urgently." I gave him the same order as Clara.
I sat inside the carriage lost in my thoughts. Whatever have I done to Elena to receive such a snake-like treatment? When did she even tell him?
Only then did I recall that it was on the training ground. When Leah and I were engrossed in our conversation trying to avoid Fenrir, she wasn't behind us anymore. But I had assumed she left with the Beta. I suspected nothing because she was back before we left for town.
How could she?
I asked myself again and again. I could think of absolutely nothing that I have done to her to warrant this.
I felt my cheeks get wet. I gently touched it, it was tears..angry and frustrated tears. I wiped them off, fast. I wasn't shedding a tear till I confronted her. But somehow, the ride took even longer than it was supposed to, making me wonder If I would ever get there on time when I'm still this angry.
Finally, I alighted directly in front of their front passageway. I didn't even bother to tell my coach rider if he should wait or leave, I walked briskly to the front door and opened it without warning or announcing my presence formally.
I found Leah standing with a basket of fresh bread at the center of the living room. My sudden presence had startled her to drop the basket.
Her face creased with a frown as she was about to rebuke me for my manners, "Marsai, for fuck sake-" She stopped. She saw the rapid rise and fall of my chest where her eyes lingered for a second longer before worry replaced the frown that once knitted her facial features.
"Marsai...what's wrong? Why are you crying? What did Alpha Fenrir do again?!" She spoke more angrily when she mentioned Fenrir's name.
I hugged her, tight. It caught her by surprise before she wrapped her slim strong arms around me, rubbing circles at my back. The door behind me opened making me turn my neck halfway to see who it was.
Rage seethed through my skin.
"You! How could you?!"
