Rejecting him?
Marsai’s POV
The woman sighed, "Technically I— ahh…I've betrayed my Alpha and my pack by trying to aid the Luna escape from her pack," she gulped slowly, "from her husband"
Guilt started to eat through my very being. This is all my fault.
"Luna…" Elder Fiona said with her eyes cast low, "Treason is punishable by death…" She looked up at me and finally, the dread was evident in her eyes. She didn't want to die, I didn't want her to die but it seems I always plague people with my bad luck.
My eyes pricked as I blinked continuously, but that didn't stop the salty drops of tears from escaping and pooling down my cheeks. "I'm so sorry" I'm so so sorry…
"It's okay, Milady.." Fiona reassured in a soothing voice but that made it feel worse.
"It's all my fault, it's all—"
"Hey…it's not…" Her voice had started to shake. "It's not your fault" she said before raising her head up and managing a smile, her cheeks were a little damp as well. "It's not your fault—"
"But it is, though" I said immediately, as I started choking on my words "I brought this on you, just look at what's happened…. you're charged with Treason….death.." I could talk anymore, tears streamed down my face and I didn't even try to hold it back.
It's frustrating, you know, just thinking of the fact that everyone is in danger because of me, even the innocents. I couldn't even look at Elder Fiona, she has a family and because of me, they will lose her.
The universe had indeed cursed me and I was sure about that, just look at my life, everyone who has tried to help me has been in danger, and had gotten in trouble.
Just look at Leah, she tried to stand up for me, to protect me and help me, yet she literally got flung away. Even if Elena was so nonchalant about it and didn't mention it, I know that she suffered injuries that will keep her in bed for a while.
Now, Elder Fiona is charged with Treason because she also tried to help me, to assist me in escaping from here, which was my idea in the first place, and now she's suffering for it.
My conscience pricked me and the guilt dug deeper.
"Milady, please stop crying…" she said as she squeezed my hand lightly, "Don't blame yourself, it is not your fault. You've just been unlucky and that's not your fault either…." She said, making me clean my tears as I gulped down, "I should be sorry that I can't even help you more because I owe it to your parents, they were good people…"
At this point, I didn't know what else to say, or what else I could have said. I just stood there with my guilt, Wondering why everything was made to be this way.
"...and because of that, I will try my best to help you once again.
I looked at her full in the face, did I hear correctly?
"Help?," I asked just to be sure, "Help me how?"
She leaned in closer with a rather coy smile, "I will still help you escape"
"..."
I froze in shock. No, I couldn't have heard correctly or this woman was a little crazy up there. Did she just say what I think I heard? Help me escape? What??
"Do you know what you're saying?" I asked in bewilderment. What is wrong with this woman? A few minutes ago, we were both in tears at the fact that her punishment will be death because of the fact that she tried to help me escape and now, a few minutes later, she is smiling offering to help me escape again.
She saw the way I looked at her and smiled even wider, though not as intense which would have been creepy considering all that's happening at the moment,
"I know what I said, Luna" she assured, "I am going to help you escape from here"
I blinked as I slowly retracted my hands from my grip on the iron bars, so I could look at her intently, " What are you saying?" I chided, "Do you know that you could really get killed on the spot, this time?!"
I was starting to believe that there may be a possibility that maybe Fenrir might spare her because, from the looks of it she looked untouched but If she tried something like that, as crazy as that, I'm very sure that Fenrir wouldn't hesitate to personally pull her head off her little body and watch it roll at his feet.
"Tell me you're joking," I shook my head, "you can't possibly think of helping me and putting your life at Risk. Elder Fiona, you have a family, what about them?"
"They will be fine—"
"They will lose you!" I said, grabbing her hands from the iron bars, "I won't be able to get off that fact that it will be my fault. I will never forgive myself—"
"Don't worry about me Milady, really. Nothing will happen to me" she smiled, "Let me do this, I want to do it. I owe it to your parents"
I sighed as I leaned my head against the iron bars. This woman was going to kill herself but that wasn't what haunted me at the moment.
I contemplated whether to tell Elder Fiona of what I had just found out.
"Are you okay?" She asked calmly and I shook my head.
"Something happened," I said looking up at her.
"What happened?" She asked with a raised eyebrow.
I wasn't sure if I should tell her not but I had already started to talk so I might as well get this over with, "I just found out…"
"Found out what, dear?" She asked calmly though the natural curiosity was evident in her voice.
I sighed, "I just found out that Fenrir is my mate" I said and watched the expressions on her face. First, she looked happy that finally, I had found my mate, then shocked that it was no other person but Fenrir and then confused as to what will happen next.
"Wait…really?" She asked, this time extremely surprised like how I had been when I found out.
"Yes, Fenrir is really my mate" I sighed dejectedly.
"Okay so…what now? Like what are you going to do now?"
What am I going to do now? Oh…I knew the answer to that, I would do the only reasonable thing to do in my case.
I looked up with a resolute expression on my face. "Reject him," I said. "I am going to reject Alpha Fenrir as my mate."
The instant the words left my mouth, I heard a loud growl. Heavens have mercy! It was the devil's growl and I knew exactly who that devil was. Fenrir.
I turned swiftly around just in time to see him strode in, anger evident on his features. How long has he been listening? What is with this man and eavesdropping?!
I saw the mad expression in his eyes like he was ready to rip someone apart. I followed his gaze and saw that he was staring daggers at Elder Fiona who I could feel shivering right behind me.
No way! Not this time!
I dashed in front of her, facing Fenrir and looking him dead in the eye.
"You will not hurt her!" I yelled, "I will not let you!"
His grey eyes sparked as he took a step forward but no, I will not budge.
"Move" he said, his voice sounding heavy and hoarse and I could tell that the anger he was trying to suppress was huge.
"Milady," Elder Fiona called me and without removing my gaze from Fenrir I leaned back to hear what she had to say. “Don't worry about protecting me, I will protect you"
This woman's jokes were not funny anymore. Was she here at all? Was she not seeing the bloodthirsty devil in front of us, who was growling deeply waiting to pounce?
"What are you—"
"Just trust me" She whispered and I was now getting confused, "you have to tell him, Milady"
"Tell him what?"
"Tell me that you want to reject him, make it official now," she said.
I gulped as I finally understood what she was talking about. I looked at Fenrir, he was approaching slowly as if planning to leap at Elder Fiona from behind me.
I had to do it, I will do it. It's time to end this.
