Breaking in

Fenrir's POV

"Are you familiar with the name, Hunter?"

I paused to see his reaction. The knowing look on his face gave it away.

“Alpha Hunter?”

“Should be.”

“Oh, he is the Alpha of Moonbound pack? Asides they are three miles up north through the Nightshade woods.." He points behind the pub, which makes sense why it was called Shades pub.

"-and surprisingly, he was crowned on the same day as Mar- The Luna's 18th birthday, the same day you arrived....that's all to it that I know, Alpha" He bowed a little before meeting my confused gaze.

"Is there a problem, Alpha? Is there something else you would like to know about him?" His voice breaks as determination starts to brew in me.

My arrival the same day as their Alpha's coronation...THAT shouldn’t be mere coincidence.

"We are leaving for Moonbound right now." I start to walk towards my carriage. His steps are careless behind me as we walk down the dirt road.

"Alpha, we can't just waltz in. They would take us as intruders. We have to be very subtle, unseen if I must say.." Rudolph cautioned as I pushed him into my carriage.

Handing him a coat and a sale’s man hat. "That's for disguise." I informed him.

"I have an acquaintance, before the walls of Moonboud Pack. He sells really convincing masks we can use for a proper disguise." Rudolph suggested. I didn't protest, as long as I would be getting answers, I didn't care about the route we followed to achieve this.

As the journey to the Moonbound Pack started, I wandered deeper into the back of my thoughts. Would I be able to take what my past life looked like?

I hate that I barely knew myself. The first memories that erupted after a long night of wine was a version of me or someone who awfully resembled me getting beaten and bullied...and I- he did nothing about it.

He seemed so weak and powerless.

What if that was who I really was?

Some weak werewolf with no fight in his bones? With the title of an Alpha heir? No wonder it was taken from me and given to my little brother?

I sighed. Rudolph stared at me skeptically before throwing his face out of the window when I met his eyes.

"Are you alright, Alpha?" I rewarded his question with silence.

My train of thought continued, I was already on my way there, and there was no turning back. Whatever I found out there wasn't gonna make or break me, either way, I was going to face it. I just needed answers.

The timing was too convenient for it to be a coincidence. How did I end up naked and injured, buried by the snow, and saved by Marsai on the same day the Hunter got crowned alpha?

The answer was something I sincerely dreaded because I already pieced it up in my head. But denial, denial gave me faith to wait and see if I would come across a different path.

My heart was way too dark to feel sympathy or anything else for this...person, this ‘me’

I watched Rudolph tap his leg rapidly. His hands staged on the top of his thigh as he kept tapping the floor base of the carriage.

"Will you stop such annoying habits for Pete's sake!" I exclaimed because the sole of his boots created an awful rhythm with the base of the carriage.

"I'm sorry, Alpha. We are almost there. It's just--" he cuts himself off.

"Speak up, young one." I ordered him after which he sighed.

"I just.. I just remembered that Elena also went to the Moonbound Pack that day too. She got captured and was kept in their junction until Leah went to rescue her and I had to stay back and perform my duties as beta.." He clarified and I nodded.

I wouldn't want to know about this since it didn't fill any of the plot holes in my head. Yet it did make sense as to why they weren’t present at their so-called best friend's 18th birthday. They didn't witness the massacre.

"So, they are not the friendliest of people and that's why I'm nervous.." he confessed. Oh that's why?

"Well, I'm not the friendliest either. Or did you believe I am?” I asked him. I stared into his eyes intensively with a small smile on my face.

I watched him shake his head vigorously.

"Then you will be fine. I'm going there for business purposes and you are my escort." I informed him before keeping quiet. We were almost at the end of nightshade Forest that led to the borderline of the pack.

My mind wanders by to the Alpha's house and Marsai. I left no note and told no one of my whereabouts because I didn't think it was necessary. I left at the crack of noon, Marsai…

I wondered if she even ate the food or if she left it to get rancid again on the bedside again. Just like she had been doing for the past week, I thought of how much paler her skin had become.

We arrived at the brim of evening. The walls were high and reinforced with concrete, tall pillars stood at intervals. We disguise ourselves as Salesmen on a business trip to get in. Rudolph then took the wheels and drove us through the outskirts road where we came across very few members of the pack.

Smart choice…

We dropped at the shop to get the masks Rudolph had suggested. It wasn't a canopy but an open wood bench with masks stacked high.

The salesman was round short. His mustache was stained with white gray beards and his persona was calm and bold.

Rudulph made a small conversation as the man talked about how the Pack had been on edge ever since the new Alpha's reign. Rudolph played smart, not exactly supporting him and not going against him. He spoke fairly of everything the man suggested to him.

"Kind sir, I'm searching for a good mask. My A- boss and I would like to move around without our identity exposed." Rudolph said to the man.

“I got a spirit mask, ceramic, plastic..you name it." He gestured to all his masks, which guessing he most likely worked on himself because of the proud smile on his face.

Rudolph picked up two hollow eye face masks.

I took off my hat and let my long hair breathe. I ran my hands through it, swaying it from side to side. And that's when I heard a name I didn't expect anyone to call so soon.
