The Guarana (wolf of prophecy)

Marsai’s POV

"Mr storyteller.." a little she-wolf called, "what do you mean by what you just said?"

"Yes old man, explain." the crowd urged. I just stood there trying to understand if I had heard the unruly man correctly.

The man seemed to enjoy all the attention he was getting, he shrugged his shoulders proudly as he continued, "Did you hear about the rumor of our new Alpha being a Guarana?"

"What?" Someone gasped in shock.

"I heard about it, but is it true?" Another asked.

"It can't be.."

"No way.." The pack members debated in murmurs.

"That's a myth!" Someone voiced.

I smiled to myself, that was exactly what I had thought. The Guarana had to be a myth..it wasn't real…well that was until the little incident with Fenrir. I also wondered where this old man must have heard what happened. Because It had happened inside the Alpha house.

"You all must not have been informed then. I heard a palace guard telling someone that they had witnessed the Alpha half shifting."

All the pack members, and I, gasped in shock. We all knew what that meant. When a werewolf starts to shift, there's a force, an irresistible force that pushes us that once we start to shift we cannot stop. But for a person to have the physical and mental strength to stop halfway during the shifting process without even running mad was…a whole new level of strength.

"But what does this have to do with our pack becoming the strongest?" I asked, not convinced.

"There's a prophecy in the sacred books of wolf lore written in the holy temples that says and I quote, "Hear this all of the wolf kind, the blessings that the heavens have bestowed to you. He is a Guarana, a wolf of magic, resentment, and power, proclaimed to rule a favored land, and in that land that he holds power, his name will travel as the most powerful pack in all wolf regions'' that is what I meant"

My eyes roamed around where I stood trying to understand what had been said. So, the prophecy meant that a Guarana will rule a pack as an Alpha and the pack will be known as the most powerful in the….wolf region. The entire wolf region! Wow.

Fenrir….Fenrir is a Guarana…the Guarana and that means because of him…our pack will be—

"..but Alas! This only depends on his mate."

Wait…huh? His mate?

"What do you mean?" I asked him, abandoning my thoughts.

"Well, the thing is, the origin of the Guarana will affect us in so many ways."

"I don't understand."

"You see, there is an old legend of a young she–wolf who dabbled in the magic of curses. It says she fell in love with a prince who was suffering from the wolf clash; a rare situation where the wolf spirit and his soul refused to live in harmony in the body and that weakened him. It also made shifting extremely painful and dangerous because his wolf was under no control and was a separate being. All this was killing him slowly. She had no healing powers and could do nothing, so she did the only thing she knew how to do…" the old man sighed, "She cursed him."

She what?!

Everyone was just as suprised as I was.

"Yes, she did" the man continued, "She cursed him to have the strength to harmonize and control the wolf within him. He was able to join his soul and his wolf spirit and that gave him the ability to not only shift but half shift, turning him to the first Guarana."

"It wasn't actually a curse then…" someone murmured.

"Oh, it was. It was all black magic and curses, you see. The effect of her blessing in disguise was that the power fueled his fury. His anger knew no bounds, it fueled and made him cause a lot of havoc and bloodshed. The more powerful he got the more furious he became, so the more powerful he became the more his control over his rage slipped. The she–wolf knew how disastrous it will be for his pack because he was becoming the next Alpha soon so she came up with a plan. Since she was the only one who could calm him, she accepted to become his Luna and his mate and because of her, the young Alpha was able to keep his calm and also use his strength to bring prosperity to his pack"

Everyone nodded their heads. "So it's all up to his mate. The Guarana could be a blessing or a curse in so many ways.."

The story was, I had to admit, interesting and intriguing. It's a suprise how this old man could know so much. It was probably because he was the town's storyteller, I bet he had to do a lot of researches to be able to tell his intriguing tales and accurate facts. But they were some things I still didn't understand. Especially the mate part…was I going to affect Fenrir in anyway? If anything bad happens…won't it be my fault?

I had been lost in thought when I heard a woman beside me exclaim in a loud voice, "Oh, look at the time. I should have been home since to prepare lunch!" She bent down to pick the baskets at her feet before turning to the storyteller who continued to chew on his barley stem. "As usual you intrigue us with your tales, making us all forget where we are supposed to be" she said with a short laugh as she scurried off with a few others. Well, I guess it was time for me to go as well, I'd almost forgotten I had been going somewhere.

After leaving the crowd, I continued my walk down the numerous streets and soon enough I had reached the gates that led up to the Beta's house. That's literally the name of the house, just like the Alpha house, we had the Beta house. They were the only two residences with names. It was smaller than the Alpha house in size but it was also very well desigbed The gate was high with bars that one could see past and by each side of the pillars that held the gate was a guard.

"State your business" the gaurd at the gate said and I immediately realized I was still in my disguise so I started to remove the scarf from my face.

"Luna!" He exclaimed as he instantly bowed, immediately opening the gates and ushering me inside. "Please come in, Milady"

As I stepped in, I couldn't help but admire the premises. It's been so long I came here, even when father was still…alive, I only came when he would invite me to escort him. If I needed to see Leah and Elena I'd make a request for them to visit me at the pack house. The house was painted in dark blue and in front of it on their lawn was a flag with the crescent pack symbol on it. Potted plants were arranged neatly in front of the house as I walked on the terracotta and limestone pavement leading to the doorstep.

The door was opened for me by their old butler who greeted me with a deep bow, bringing me into their hallway. He immediately left to inform the residents of my arrival as I stood there and admired the place, or to be honest just looked at it because I haven't been here in a long while. They were portraits on the wall of Elena, Leah and Rudolph. There was also one of their deceased parents; Late Elder Beta Rudolf and Lady Isabel.

A few more minutes after the butler left, I heard the sound of footsteps rushing in my direction. Heeled sandals echoing as they touched the marble floor. Turning around slightly, I saw Leah and Elena racing towards me, surprise on both their faces.

"Marsai!" They both exclaimed as they enveloped me in a big hug.

"How did you get here?" Leah asked. "When the butler told us you were at the door, I couldn't believe it!"

"What happened?" Elena asked as well.

"Did you escape?"

"Are you on the run?"

"How did you get out—"

"One question at a time, please.." I stopped them. Their questions were making me dizzy. "I'll explain everything but can I atleast get a glass of water, first?"

"Oh yes, Ofcourse!" Leah said and immediately called a maid to bring some water while she and Elena led me to their reception room. Before we could step in, I heard a familiar voice echoing through the halls.

"What was all the ruckus about? Can't I have a day of peace with you girls?" It was Rudolph and he was walking in our direction, looking down at his wrist as he arranged his cufflinks. When he looked up, he froze in shock.

"Ma…Marsai?" He called in disbelief before walking towards me and enveloping me in a big rather uncomfortable hug.

"How did you get here?" He asked, looking at me all over. "Are you hurt?"

"Let her have a seat first then she can tell us everything" Elena said and I nodded.

When we were all seated and I had drank some water, I started feeling much better, so I told them what happened, "He let me go."

They all looked at me in surprise like they didn't understand what I had just said or like I had spoken in a strange language.

"What..what do you mean, let you go?" Leah was the first to ask.

"I mean, he removed all restraints on me. I'm free to go anywhere now" I answered.

Elena blinked rapidly in slight confusion, "You mean Fenrir? Alpha Fenrir? The monster Alpha who wouldn't let you take a step without his approval, that Fenrir?"

"It's the only one I know, so yes" I answered, internally rolling my eyes.

"I can't believe it…" Rudolph mumbled to himself, even if I heard him.

"Well!" Leah suddenly exclaimed, "this is good news, great news infact!"

My brows furrowed in confusion as to what she meant.

"Marsai," she called, reaching forward and taking my hands in hers, "This is the chance you've been waiting for. This is your chance to finally run away from him, forever!"

Before I could say anything, Elena piped in, "Leah is right. You don't have to go back to the Alpha house. The border isn't very far from here, you could run away from him…start a new life somewhere else"

"Yes.." Leah agreed in a sad tone, "I mean, we wouldn't want you gone so far away but it's for your safety and it's what's best.”

I looked from Leah to Elena and back. I didn't know what to say…this is strange. For some reason, I wasn't as enthusiastic about running away like before.

I mean…I finally have the chance to leave Fenrir for good but…why am I not getting on my feet and making a run for it? Why am I thinking this twice? Was it because of the prophecy about the Guarana or…because of the mate bond?

"Marsai, you're not saying anything," Elena said and I sighed deeply.

"I…I don't," I paused for a while, "are you sure?"

Leah raised her eyebrows, "what do you mean are we….yes! It's the best thing to do, right Rudolph?"

Suddenly all eyes went to Rudolph who had been sitting down with a pensive look on his face.
