Truce

Fenrir's POV

It was afternoon already, so I set off to the location Rudolph was working on.

I bet he should know who Hunter is, since he is a new Alpha too, and if not…Maybe he will know the Moonbound Pack?

When I got there, Rudolph wasn't alone. Aside from him, all the other werewolves that were working alongside him to divert the flood were all Omega. I couldn’t perceive the smell of a higher werewolf except Rudolph.

It was crazy because the flood had affected their houses and farms too, and they just thought it wasn’t their place to help out their Beta unlike the Omegas.

I couldn't understand the diversity and it made me realize that I don’t know much about werewolves. How come? Was my original body not a werewolf?

For a moment, I thought hard about it but nothing. Nothing came up in my head, so I shifted my attention to Rudolph.

I watched him work alongside the Omegas without showing many levels of authority or instilling fear.

I frowned at his sovereignty which was higher than mine in the eyes of my pack members.

“I can see why Marsai would rather spend the day with him..”

He overall gave out an enthusiastic aura. With his rolled-up sleeves and dirt-stained trousers, he still showcased his teeth through the smiles he displayed while making conversation with the people. He was easily likable even from this distance.

His sweat glistening forehead catches the harshness of sunlight right above. I couldn't just come there and drag him out to take me to Hades park, I needed to approach this differently. Then an idea I definitely approve came.

I left the carriage I came with at a distance and walked towards him and the Omegas filling up eroded scapes.

There were patches of grasses here and there leading to the trail which meant at least, the water from the erosion did gather some mineral while flushing the landscapes into uneven ridges.

Before I got close, I could already hear whispers.

"The alpha is here, adjust your work clothes, keep your heads down.."

Even though I appeared with no absolute evidence of harm.

Omegas who I was sure if I wasn't thrown into such hasty decision, I would never have met.

A lot of them had dirt stained regalias and rolled up sleeves. The sense of genuine togetherness was lost as they were all very concious of me. I accessed my body language to see if I posed any form of threat from my stance but it was just me.

I walked into their midst, "Good work, and great progress," I spoke, taking them by surprise.

This caused a few of them to snap their head in my direction as I strolled passed them.

Rudolph stared at me wondering what I was doing. "I would like to treat you to an early evening of beverages and roasted pork, all on me. Shades pub." I offered.

"Thank you, alpha." Rudolph replied, his mug expression seemed like he didn't believe me. He wasn't that dull of a lad, surely he knew why I assigned him to such lot of work and definitely, it didn't come out of the gladness of my heart.

"Not just you. All of you in fact. What do you say comrades?" I asked, and they all looked at me like I had grown three heads.

"Is that a no?" I felt a little disappointed.

"No! Alpha…" they exclaimed in weird unison.

"I just..we just..we didn't deserve such a generous act from you, Alpha. We are really honored," Rudolph spoke on their behalf.

“Okay. You all can clean up and let's get food into your stomachs even if they aren't empty.” I said to them with a tiny smile.

A forced smile, some might say. But this was the closest to kindness they have come to see from me.

By the time the sun started to set, Rudolph, I, and the Omegas had taken to the Shades pub. We ordered several plates of roasted pork and corn. Gathering them around a long rectangular wooden table, they drank to the day's work and we ate together.

"Alpha, I'm Oswald by the way." A young Omega introduced with a nervous smile on his face. I could spot Rudolph staring at me with scrutiny, being the only one in the group that had seen the other side of me.

He was one of the first audience to my rage. His watchful gaze followed my hands as they drowned a cup of wine. I cleared my throat before replying.

"I'm Fenrir, young wolf." I replied with a simple smile, making the rest gasp in disbelief.

Soon, it became a round table discussion as one after the other, they told me their names and how they earned a living.

The only female omega on the table who was brave enough to speak was, "Karen Locksmith,"

"Your surname is Locksmith? but your occupation is a jewelry caretaker? Was your father a jeweler??" I asked with a friendly chuckle and the others followed.

"No, I am a jeweler. He was a guard." She giggled.

"Bloody hell…" I chuckled harder and they seemed to find my reaction even more amusing.

They engaged themselves in conversations, laughing with merry smiles. I also joined some of it and the atmosphere was really lively.

I felt a glow, a happy one. This was the first time I felt like an alpha. I basked in this reaction until I reminded myself of business.

"Rudolph.." I called out. He turns his head halfway to meet my gaze. "Yes, alpha?"

"A word? Outside." I took to my feet, thanking the wolves for their efforts on the walls.

I stood outside for a few seconds before the beta joined me. I went straight to the point.

"Rudolph, I would like to make some inquiries. Are you familiar with the neighboring packs?" I tried to be as vague as possible.

"Yes, Alpha. There are several of them.." he replied with a skeptical look.

"Are you familiar with the name, Hunter?"
