No room for rejection
Fenrir's POV
Marsai was infuriating me, my stubborn wife was testing the patience that I did not have. I glared at her as she stood there with her thick red curls bouncing about her head, using her precious body as a shield to protect that woman!
"Move," I said but she didn't budge. I glared at the woman behind her, she had brainwashed my Marsai and the thought of that reheated the anger in me.
I watched as the woman called the attention of Marsai and she leaned in, not once taking her hazel eyes away from me. If only you'd look at me, this way in a very different scenario. Tch.
I was still growling deep within me and waiting for the slightest opportunity to pounce because I could certainly not go through Marsai, I could not hurt her. As I looked on, I caught on to what they were saying.
"You'll have to tell him," the old hag muttered.
"Tell him what?" My wife asked.
"Tell him you want to reject him, make it official now"
Oh, fuck no!
Marsai took a step towards me, "Fenrir Amarok—"
"Don't even think about it!" I lashed out, I will never allow her to reject me as her mate, never!
"You cannot stop me from—"
"Watch me," I flared, a growl coming out from the back of my throat as I flared, "do you want me to punish you, Marsai?"
Her eyes hardened at me as she scoffed, "Punish me? Please. The fact that you are already in my life is punishment enough!"
I sighed, looking at her and hoping I could see a tinge of fear to use in my favor but there was none, so I used another strategy, "I dare you, Marsai!" I said in an angry tone, "If you think I will let you off this time for your disobedience, I dare you to reject me!"
There was silence for a while, no one moving. I glared at her, thinking I had the upper hand. But the next thing she said, surprised me.
She started with a glare before walking forward, her head high as she uttered the next dreaded words, "I Marsai Connor, reject you, Fenrir Amarok as my destined mate!"
No..!
"I, Marsai Connor, reject you, Fenrir Amarok as my destined mate…"
No….she did not just…No.
As soon as I heard those words, there was a ringing noise in my ears, I felt it vibrate deep in my head, and immediately I was transported somewhere deep into memory lane.
There he stood, the previous owner of this body…Hawk. His eyes were red and filled with unshed tears. I could hear his heartbeat, loud and clear. The harshness of his breath as he stared straight at the person in front of him, a blonde-haired woman who had an unconcerned expression on her face.
"How could you, Zara?" He asked, "You are my mate—"
"Oh, please Hawk. You say it like it's a good thing" the woman responded with a sneer.
"Wh…what?"
"Do you know how It feels? The embarrassment of knowing I'm your mate, the shame?" She rolled her eyes, "I wish I was even the mate of someone like your brother, not a disappointment like you"
The words cut so deep that even I felt it. The tears that he tried to hold back, spilled on his cheek, "Is that why you decided to cheat on me with the Beta?"
The woman did not look in the least remorseful, “I love him and I didn't cheat because 'we' are not a thing—"
"You are my mate!" And the tears fell more, his voice laced with hurt, "The fact that you are my mate doesn't allow you to be with anyone else, Zara!"
"In that case, I don't want to be your mate anymore!"
He gulped, and I heard a spike in her heartbeat "What are you saying?"
"Hawk Oberoi, I reject you as my destined mate!"
There was a huge surge of light immediately and the next second it cleared and Marsai was standing in front of me again.
I stared at her defiant hazel eyes that burned with a bright green and gulped…no, the heavens forbid that this happens, Marsai cannot reject me as her mate!
"No!" I growled, the anger, the defiance getting to my head. Making every sound that came out of my lips hoarse, "you can't do that!" I yelled, glaring angrily at her.
"Too bad, I already did," She yelled back, "You don't own me, Fenrir. I refuse to be a possession of yours!"
I shook my head, no way I was letting this happen, heavens forbid it! I looked her over, accessing the defiance in her eyes, and looked back to the fidgeting woman in the cell behind her.
"I reject you as my mate and there's nothing you can do about it," Marsai said in a deadpan tone.
"Oh, is that so?" I started rhetorically, with a deep frown. "Guards!"
A confused expression played on both women's faces.
"What are you doing?" Marsai said as she stepped forward, "you want to put me in a cell again? Well guess what, I—"
"No, no I'm not doing that," I said, an involuntary smile playing on my face. “No one is going to be thrown in a cell"
Marsai looked more confused as the guards appeared, "Fenrir…"
"Take Elder Fiona to the execution block and prepare to have her executed." I ordered coldly.
"What?!" Both women yelled in shock.
"What are you doing?" Marsai said, stepping even closer to me, "you have no right to do this!"
"Oh, but I do." I smirk. "As the Alpha, I have every right."
I don't think I've ever since Marsai been this annoyed but it didn't bother me in the least because I was just as angry.
"She didn't do anything—"
"Elder Fiona," I said, calling her attention as she looked at me in fear. "You are charged with treason and insubordination," I looked at Marsai, "Punishment—death by beheading."
"No!" Elder Fiona said as she fell to the ground, clutching her chest as she realized that in a few minutes she would be dead. The guards stepped forward to unlock the cell gate.
"What are you doing? Leave her alone!” Marsai said, wanting to walk over there and 'attack' the guards.
I tried to reach forward and held her wrist to stop her, but she swung her open palm against my cheek with full force…. ouch.
I thought I'd be angry but I just…I don't know, I stood there as we stared into each other's eyes. Surprisingly, my fury has lessened even though I was still annoyed, the slap just made me rigid. I just stood there and watched her begin to pounce on me.
"You're evil!" She let out, her frail hands pounding on my chest, I didn't move or say a word.
She pounded, punched, and clawed at me before she placed both her hands on my chest, taking deep breaths as she sniffled hard, tears trailing down her cheeks.
I looked ahead at the guards that had held the fragile looking woman, awaiting my final command.
"What are you still standing there for?" I said in a surprisingly calm voice, "Take her to the execution block now!"
The guards dragged the woman as she screamed, pulling her out, but before they could leave the dungeon, Marsai screamed and pulled at my shirt.
"No, please don't do it…" she begged and I looked down into her beautiful face. “Please, if she dies it will be my fault, I won't…I won't be able to forgive myself."
I watched the crystal tears trail from her hazel eyes that now shone with gold as they rolled down her pale cheeks. My throat tightened, "you should have thought about that before you decided to listen to her and disobey me.”
I didn't like her crying either, but I'd rather she cry than I lose her as my mate. I turned to nod at the guards to continue moving but Marsai jumped in front of me, holding my arm and pleading.
"Please, don't do this. I'll…I'll.."
I waited for her to complete the sentence and say the words I wanted to hear, "you'll what?"
"I'll do whatever you want…please"
I sighed satisfactorily to myself but still kept a rigid face, "There is only one way you can help this woman to keep her head still attached to her body and that is to revert the rejection.” I said as I walked towards her, slightly bent my head, and leveled my face with hers. I expected her to flinch but she didn't, "and proclaim me as your mate in front of everyone—the whole pack"
I saw her gulp as she cast her eyes down, obviously thinking about it. I straightened up and watched her, she was seriously contemplating even if I knew what her answer was going to be, "I don't have all day, Marsai…" I drawled and she looked up, her gaze wandering around.
She backed a few steps away from me, and very slowly shook her head.
"No?"
I asked, "okay then, umm…Guards—"
"Wait!" She said, stepping forward again, I smirked as I also took a step forward, "I….I, Marsai Connor hereby…revert the rejection and accept you, Fenrir Amarok…" she looked at me, "as my destined mate"
