Elena making her move
Fenrir POV
I decided to visit the training grounds today.
Usually, I would stand and watch from the vast balcony as the men train so as not to put fear in them than I already did. I believe they would stay their best and show no form of weakness even though they lose an arm.
But my reason for being on the mainground today was because of a good source who told me about my Luna's whereabouts. How she had been busy with her Luna duties; watching over the pack comrades' training, food supply, and refills of the concrete walls on the north park.
Her supportive actions made me smile, though a bittersweet smile because I knew I could have been there by her side.
She wouldn't even let me touch her.
"Good afternoon, Alpha. My apologies, there are no canopy set up for you Alpha, we weren't-"
I raised my hand and he went mute. He is one of the comrades and he's apologizing for something I didn't really care about. I wasn't here for them at all.
They could all burn in crisps of Valhalla and I wouldn't even wink an eye.
"Go on with your training, comrade." I dismissed and he made a short bow and departed.
I turned to see another canopy set up on the other side of the training ground. It was my mate’s, Marsai…
I had to keep my mind on a leash, for my feet would have taken long purposeful strides towards her till I stood in front of her.
I didn't want to cause any further drama. She already resented my presence, the least I could do was give her some space till she could tolerate me again.
There were three others with her. Elena, Leah and Rudolph.
I kiss my teeth in vexation, knowing that it was a losing race already if she was with Leah.
She wouldn't even bait an eye at me for the red scar on Leah's neck would forever remind her of the monster that I was.
The smell of sandalwood invades my nose, making me frown in disapproval.
"Alpha.." Elena bows with grace, letting her lustrous black hair steal as much light as it could reflect.
"Elena."
"Why are you here?" I ask in a slightly uninterested tone.
She is a friend of Marsai so being nice to her has automatically become a necessity if I wanted my Luna back in my arms again.
"Oh...I was just wondering if I could keep you company, My Alpha. I would leave if you don't desire my presence." She turns around and begins to walk away.
For a second, I was glad that I wouldn't have to deal with her elusiveness. Then it occured to me, I couldn't talk to Marsai because she's out of reach, and Leah makes sure of it.
So Elena was the only way I could get to her if I truly was ready for this fit.
"Elena…" I called out impulsively.
Still unsure of the consequences of my decision, yet desperation egged me on to be a step closer.
"Yes, Alpha?"
She turns around swiftly, a twinkle in her eye as she laces her fingers together.
"Come closer." I command.
With no hesitation, she walks closer to me, her cheeks rosy. I'm sure nerves were having the best of her for we barely interacted in the past.
"That's enough." I snapped when she drew a little to close and her sandalwood scent filled my senses in an unpleasant manner.
"I'm sorry, Alpha."
I ignore her courtesy. "How is my Luna?" I ask instantly. That was all of my concern.
"Alpha...she still actively resents you if I must say. I did try to talk her through it but you know she is a woman of her own will." Elena reported with her head bowed.
"Yes, I know she is.” I had to agree with a small smile. She has been like this from the very first time I found her.
"What about her schedule this evening?"
"She is free of duties for the evening. But I think she would be going out with Leah and Rudolph to see a play after they are done shopping."
"Alright. You may go now."
"There's something you should know, Alpha,” Elena muttered, her eyes relishing of reluctance after she threw a gaze toward Marsai and her siblings.
“What is it?”
She shook her head. “I don’t think I should tell you, it's not my place, and I might be wrong in my assumption.”
I frowned at her words, getting a bit interested in what she had to say.
“Talk,” I demanded, raising a brow at her.
“Alpha, you need to promise me that you won’t hurt Marsai or my sister, I can’t just-
“Fucking open your mouth and talk, she-wolf.” I snarled at her. Why did she have so much nonsense to say?
I could never hurt Marsai. Or her sister again or anyone again for fear that Marsai may kill herself as she had threatened.
“A week ago, Marsai had attempted to run away again.”
The instant she spoke, my mind reverted to a few days ago, and how I had thought I was making a wild guess for thinking Marsai had left me. I could feel anger coursing through my veins when I realized that I was right.
She had actually attempted to leave me….again.
“Why didn't she leave then? She came back to me.” I gritted my teeth, trying to keep my anger at bay by fisting my hands to my side.
“She came to our house to bid farewell to us. She left when she couldn't find Leah.”
“To Rudolph too?”Jealousy merged with my anger at the mention of my Beta.
Elena nodded, her facial expression exuding that she would rather not tell me all of this.
I didn't know why she had decided to tell me but I was glad she did. At least, I knew I hadn't been delusional.
I turned my head to where Marsai was laughing heartily with Rudolph and Leah, and I didn't know if I should be grateful for Leah that she wasn’t in the Beta’s house that day.
If she hadn’t been struggling for her life at my hands that day, she would have been at home and would have encouraged Marsai to leave me.
“You can go,” I dismissed Leah, but she didn't leave. “What else?” I asserted, my voice raw from my receding anger.
I slightly hate that I only have to look at Marsai and I would feel light-headed. Is this because she was my mate, or we had more connections than that?
“Uhmm, are you angry? Would you take this out on Marsai?” She asked and I frowned.
“What I do to my mate is none of your business. Leave.” I commanded and she left immediately.
Do I have to be cautious about Rudolph too?
Yes. I do. In fact, I will.
I just have to make him so busy that he won't even have time to eat, not to talk of hanging out with ladies.
I would never let history repeat itself again.
The pack members had recently lamented about their lands being flooded, and I had ordered several comrades to give it their attention before I came to see it myself.
I added Rudolph to the crew.
I had made sure to engage him with more work than necessary. Even when it wasn't his responsibility. Since I now know that he and Leah have been actively working together to keep Marsai away from my line of sight. I can contain Leah’s presence with my mate, but Rudolph just irks me.
He reminded me of my past…maybe not my past, but the memories of this body which I doubted belonged to me.
Not talking to Marsai was bad enough..not seeing her? That was actual torture. So, I had to repay the favor.
Usually, I wasn't concerned with the works of the outside walls but winter was coming. I rode horses with my four personal guards to the borders where the incident occurred.
With some of my men already littered around, I decided to keep my distance and watch from afar.
But Rudolph just had a thing for being such a pain in my butt lately.
He somehow missed where the actual sight was and came to me directly.
"Alpha…" Rudolph tries to catch his breath as he bows.
"What are you doing here, comrade?" I asked, staring down at him. He really needed to get in shape
"You have been asking of my presence here, Alpha. But every time I'm around, I never ran into you." He replied, stopping in between sentences to breathe properly.
"I'm yet to see the problem." I looked at him with a very intimidating gaze that sent him three steps backward without saying a word.
"I saw you on your way here so I followed you. I never got the task you wanted for me to do." He finally spoke clearly.
"Because I never gave it to you, your point?" I ask him. He could tell I was losing the little patience I had.
"Alpha, I just wanted to know-"
"Rudolph, my guard must have forgotten to deliver the complete message." I came closer to him, tapping his back.
He chuckled nervously as I have never made contact with him in the past.
"You see those men over there?" I point towards the site.
"Yes, Alpha.."
"Good. Tell them, that I said, that they have been relieved of their duties." I spoke very carefully with a small smile.
"But Alpha, who would then fix it?" He asked, looking confused.
"Congratulations, it's you, Rudolph. Now go.."
He stood transfixed on the spot.
"Was I not clear enough? I asked, "go now."
With that, He left.
I would like to see how he would have to lure Marsai away from me again.
