Preparing breakfast

Fenrir

I woke up with my head feeling like it was a 6ft hole down my pillow.

The bright light of dawn made me groan and my mouth tasted like a dirt road scorched by the desert sun.

Thankfully enough, it didn't last long as my body readily fixed itself. I took a quick, glad to finally get rid of the alcohol stench.

Glad I woke up early, I walked into the kitchen once again to try and prepare breakfast for Marsai.

This time, I kept a watchful eye on the eggs so as not to burn up too much. I added condiments like carrot, green peas, and lastly bread. I placed a cup of fresh milk on the side onto the tray and walked to her room carefully.

I felt proud of myself as I looked at the tray. It came out better than I expected and I hope she liked it. No, not just like, I hoped she would fill her stomach up with it.

My heart started racing and I steadily recollected the times she had appropriately rejected or ignored the food and let it go sour.

My heart sank, making me feel hurt. If she lets this go rancid, I don't know how many gestures I had in me to show her how dependable I want her to feel with me.

I pushed the discouraging thoughts to the attic of my mind and focused on her door right in front of me. The brown carvings of the park symbol were engraved on it.

Steading the tray on one hand, I knocked as soft as I could, twice. The silence that met my knock rose the dust of paranoia from the back of my mind.

Did she finally succeed in running away? Was that why she came back late? To appear less suspicious, so she can leave after I sleep?

Had she been planning her escape all day?

I quickly pushed the door open, letting the smell of wild roses and coconut oil infiltrate my nose.

I sighed heavily when I saw her. She lay peacefully in her bed like an angel. She had half her body covered in white sheets and the remaining half, exposed to the light of dawn, giving her skin quite the glow.

She had her left leg arched higher as she laid on her side. Her unhurried breath was steady. She really was asleep which meant she was truly tired from whatever she did yesterday. A small smile stretches my lips apart as I move closer, almost forgetting the reason I was in her room in the first place.

I maneuvered my way till I got to her side table. Surprisingly, there was no rancid food from the previous day like I usually meet when I come to check up on her in the morning.

Maybe Clara had gotten rid of it before I came in. Either way, I dropped the tray gently on her bed side.

Leaving her side suddenly became a myth. I got mesmerized by her side profile and her slightly parted, red soft lips. The peaceful rise and fall of her bosom as she breathed. She is a glorious sight.

I lean towards her and lay a light kiss on her forehead, which is devoid of any hair tendrils as she had packed them all into a bun. I remembered how crazy her morning hair was after our first night, but it was currently blocked by her pillow.

I was hooked when I came in contact with her skin. Like a drug, I couldn't get enough. I let myself enjoy the few seconds of breathing in her smell and tasting her skin texture before I finally stood upright.

"You are the prettiest angel to walk this Earth, my love. No she-wolf can compare to you."

I muttered beneath my breath. For a second, she stirred in her sleep, keeping me alert as I quickly exited her line of sight but she didn't fully wake up. Instead, she changed the direction of her head, facing her pillow straight up.

A small sad smile parted my lips.

"Please, open up to me again…"

With that, I leave the house entirely and head for the borders where the erosion from flooding kept eating at our walls.

I had ordered several comrades to give it their attention before I came to see it myself. Part of these comrades was Rudolph.

I had made sure to engage him with more work than necessary. Even when it wasn't his responsibility. I knew he and Leah actively worked together to keep Marsai away from my line of sight. I can contain Leah’s presence with my mate, just Rudolph just irks me. He reminded me of my past…maybe not my past, but memories of the body I knew belongs to me.

Not talking to her was bad enough, but not seeing her? That was actual torture, so I paid him back the favor.

Usually, I wasn't concerned with the works of the outside walls but winter was coming. I rode horses with my four personal guards to the borders where the incident occurred.

With some of my men already littered around, I decided to keep my distance and watch from afar.

But Rudolph just had a thing for being such a pain in my butt lately.

He somehow missed where the actual sight was and came to me directly.

"Alpha…" Rudolph tries to catch his breath as he bows.

"What are you doing here, comrade?" I asked, staring down at him. He really needed to get in shape

"You have been asking of my presence here, Alpha. But every time I'm around, I never ran into you." He replied, stopping in between sentences to breathe properly.

"I'm yet to see the problem." I looked at him with a very intimidating gaze that sent him three steps backward without saying a word.

"I saw you on your way here so I followed you. I never got the task you wanted for me to do." He finally spoke clearly.

"Because I never gave it to you, your point?" I ask him. He could tell I was losing the little patience I had.

"Alpha, I just wanted to know-"

"Rudolph, my guard must have forgotten to deliver the complete message." I came closer to him, tapping his back.

He chuckled nervously as I have never made contact with him in the past.

"You see those men over there?" I point towards the site.

"Yes, Alpha.."

"Good. Tell them, that I said, that they have been relieved of their duties." I spoke very carefully with a small smile.

"But Alpha, who would then fix it?" He asked, looking confused.

"Congratulations, it's you, Rudolph. Now go.."

He stood transfixed on the spot.

"Was I not clear enough? I asked, "go now."

With that, He left.

I would like to see how he would have to lure Marsai away from me again.
