The soiled plan

Marsai POV

I can't just go back to my room. I also can't seek Leah’s help because I can't find her after searching for a while.

The only way was to go to the Alpha's quarters. There was a fair chance that I would locate her on my way there or on her way back.

I silently prayed in my mind that Fenrir wasn't back yet.

I walk briskly in my long dress towards the open courtyard going through the back corridors. This isn't the convenient entrance but it had the least amount of guards and right now, it didn't even have any which was strange.

The maids on duty had also vanished.

Okay, this is strange.

There usually was one or two around, performing one task or the other.

The reason soon presented itself as I heard a growl, followed by a shill cry.

Leah.

My brain twitches and my legs instantly move with a mind of their own. I found myself sprinting to the front passage to make sure it wasn't what I was thinking.

When I got there, Fenrir was dangling from his hands.

Her hair made me realize it was my best friend and… that Fenrir…Fenrir was about to kill her.

Before my voice could unwrap from the shock and trauma, I heard my name called out loud with so much love and care.

"Fenrir, get the bloody hell away from her, you fucking monster!!" I gave a dirt scream.

Hot tears shattered my voice as he let go of Leah’s neck and she fell to the ground.

Crawling away from him even though she looked devoid of life until she started coughing and crying in tears.

"You fucking monster…" the hate in my voice was so potent that he pause in his track.

His opened hands dropped for a moment before he raised them again, ready to embrace a form that wanted him dead.

"My precious...it's not- I thought she had you and she wanted to take you from me-".

"Are you bloody hell serious right now, Fenrir?!"

"You almost killed her, you fucking animal!" Tears blurred my vision as I saw his silhouette getting closer to me.

He wrapped his arms around me but I was quick to sink my teeth into his chunky muscled arms making him yelp in pain.

"Get the hell away from me, you savage.." I pushed him away from me, hot tears falling off my cheeks.

"I will always hate you and I will never love you or let you touch me again, you miserable piece of shit."

"Marsai…." His voice sounded hurt, yet alluring. It irritated the hell out of my soul.

"You are an animal. That's my best friend!! Do you not care about anyone other than your unhinged wants and needs? You don't care about me or the people I care about."

"How can you say that, love...I care about you a lot...can't you see how much?"

He pointed around him but all I saw was chaos and destruction. The man against the wall with a bleeding cranium, two men crying on the ground with their left and right arm broken and head bleeding, a man yelling in a thorn bush, Leah on the floor with a reddish mark around her neck as she sobbed quietly.

A tear rolls gently off my eyes.

"You call this.. love?" My voice cracked. It has lost its timber from screaming so loud from frustration.

"I love you, Marsai, and you know it. This is how I can show it. I don’t know how else. I can't control this.”

Once he started talking like this, my heart gets soft because I could hear the vulnerability in his voice. The force course my body, begging to understand him, love him, manage him…

But I can’t.

Even though he is my mate, I can’t forget he is also a monster.

I looked away from him and kneeled before Leah.

Gently grabbing her head to see her face. It was still so pale and Fenrir’s hand marks were very obvious on her neck. I took a glance at him and a tear fell from my eyes.

"My neck...my neck hurt so bad." Leah cried, barely audible.

The hate in me grew to the point I couldn't raise my head to look him in the eyes anymore.

"I swear, the next time you try something like this again, not just to people I love, but to any of my pack members because you aren't having things your way, I will kill myself." I declared coldly.

My words must have caught his attention because he began to walk closer to me, looking down at me with what I don’t want to call empathy in his eyes.

"No, you wouldn't."

"You can't stop me."

"I'd rather you run away a million times. I know I will always find you and bring you back home."

"You are insane. I will never be at home here, not when I know your mere existence possesses a threat, a danger to the lives of the people I hold dearly to me. You will never find peace.”

"I found peace when I met you, Marsai. You are all the peace I need. I don’t need to find another one. Everyone else can be fried by lava and drowned in nightshade but it is fine as long as you are safe." He bends down next to Leah, totally ignoring her broken image.

His attention was on me, he reached to hold my face but I slapped him across the face instead.

My brain, which was already giving in to his romantic words, snapped. I refused to back down.

I glared at him, waiting for him to hurt me too.

I fixed my eyes into his eyes, expecting him to act, hit me, yell at me, anything at all..but it never came.

He let out a low growl before rubbing his face crazily and letting it all go.

"I will see you inside." He stood up and left.

When I turned around, the head maid was around, so she and I were able to take all of the wounded to the pack infirmary.

I must have dosed off beside Leah because she was the one who was waking me. She has a cast around her neck now, making my eyes water.

"Come on...don't cry."

"How can I not? You all got hurt because I tried to be stubborn. It shouldn't have been like this if only I stayed back and-"

"And what? Continued taking his madness just because you are his mate? That's self sabotage except you are a masochist."

"You shouldn't feel guilty. I mean, how long are you going to stay with a man that goes on a killing rampage everytime you go missing?" Leah reasoned with me.

"The prophecy is the reason I'm in this mess in the first place."

"What prophecy?" She asked and I reminded her.

"Oh no. So, he's…"
