Chapter 15 She's sleeping in my room
"Jenny, sir wanted you back to your room and wait for him."
Ike said to me, which meant I could no longer stay here.
Erin and I looked at each other and turned to leave, taking the empty plates in the process.
On the way back to the room, Ike walked ahead.
"Phil doesn't like it if someone feeds his pets privately, and he prefers to watch them stand unsteadily with hunger."
Ike said to me.
"How will he punish his pets?"
I asked to Ike.
"It could have been a whipping, or it could have been starving her longer. Phil is not like the Lord Count, he would not be as forgiving and kind as the Lord Count. Although you are a kind human being, here your compassion will kill Erin."
Ike stood in the doorway of the room and said to me.
I was filled with remorse and guilt, and if Erin was killed or starved to death, it was all because of me.
It didn't take long for Klopp to return.
Seeing my unhappy look, Klopp walked over to me and sat down.
"What did Ike say to you?"
Klopp asked.
"Will Phil kill Erin? It's his pet."
I looked to Klopp, the owner of the manor, who might be able to save Erin.
"Possibly, if Phil stopped liking his pets, or when he tried to kill Erin."
Klopp didn t deny it.
Phil was originally a complete evil, there was no trace of goodness, only brutality and selfishness.
"I'll get Erin killed."
I said in horror, shrinking up and wrapping my arms around myself.
That wasn't my intention, I was just trying to help her.
"I will help you."
Klopp stroked my head and whispered in my ear.
Hope was rekindled in me and I looked at Klopp with widened eyes.
Although I couldn t let Erin live a little bit of a normal life like me, as long as she could survive, one day we would live a life what a human being should live.
Instead of being abused and enslaved by another race.
I didn't know what Klopp meant by helping me, but I instinctively believed everything he had said.
"I have some business to do today, would you like to accompany me?"
Klopp was asking me something he could order me to do at any time, or even had me stand around all night without sleeping.
But he had never forced me to do anything.
"Yes."
I got out of bed and stood in front of Klopp.
And he didn't go to the study, but took me to his room.
Klopp's room was much larger than mine and had more decorative items in it.
On a wooden shelf, there were various exquisite goblets.
He seemed to enjoy collecting these wine glasses.
Klopp was sitting on the bed while I was lying on his lap, looking at the papers in his hands.
Those documents looked more troublesome than human contracts. Klopp needed to deal with so many documents every day, it would be annoying, right?
Klopp was reading the document with one hand, while one hand was gently stroking my head.
I thought he liked to collect wine glasses, except for petting my head with his hand like a puppy.
I didn't know if it was the scent of Klopp's body or the words on the paper that just bored me so much that I started to doze off.
Leaning on Klopp's lap, I soon fell asleep.
In a haze, I dreamed again about the scene in the hospital.
Klopp kissed me. And when we kissed, I reached out to embrace him again, which felt so real.
That dream made me sleep soundly all night.
When I opened my eyes, Klopp was still beside me and not awake yet.
But to my shock, I was actually lying in his arms, with one arm still on his waist holding him.
I would have liked to sneak back into my room before Klopp found out, but with one of Klopp's arms on me as well, I simply couldn't leave the bed.
After I fell asleep, instead of sending me back to my room, Klopp let me sleep in his bed all night.
And I didn t know anything during it.
How deep did I sleep last night?
I lay in Klopp's arms afraid to move for fear I would wake him up.
Klopp never woke up, and I was mentally calculating which was more likely, that he would wake up angry or shocked.
At this moment, there was a knock on the door from outside.
Then someone opened the door and walked in.
"Jenny little baby, your breakfast is delivered, guess what's in it today?"
Anna's voice came in.
I glanced at Klopp and gently reached over to pull the blanket over my head.
"Ah! Jenny's gone!"
There was a scream from Anna, who must have thought I was missing.
Jolted awake, Klopp got up and walked out.
"The Lord Count, I didn't realize you were still in your room, haven't you left today? Jenny is missing and I'm at..."
Outside was Anna's nervous voice.
"Okay, Anna, she's not missing, calm down, she was too tired last night accompanying me with the paperwork, so I let her sleep in my room, that's all."
Klopp expressed his helplessness about it.
"Oh, well, she's sleeping in your room...Jenny slept in your room?"
Anna became shocked in the middle of her sentence.
"Yes, Anna, if you're just here to deliver breakfast, then you can leave instead of screaming like you've seen a ghost in my bedroom!"
Klopp threw Anna out.
The room was once again calm, and I hid under the blankets, not daring to make a sound.
Klopp came back into the room and all I heard was a noise, he was supposed to be getting dressed.
He probably knew I was pretending to be asleep, but he didn't say anything.
Finally, Klopp left the room.
I didn't see Klopp again for a whole day nor did I know what he was busy with.
In another half month, the weather would get colder.
Vampires went into semi-dormancy in the winter, but before that happened they needed to suck more blood to get them through the winter.
Before each winter, vampires and slave traders went on a rampage to capture humans and sucked more of their blood.
I once saw that miserable scene myself.
Some people died because of blood loss, while others did not live through winter because of weakness.
People would rather starve than risk coming out to find food, and some of them were therefore starved to death.
Klopp should also need that blood, and the slave traders and some low-level vampires, too, would curry favor with the blood they get from humans in exchange for his protection.
I quietly left the room to check on Erin and make sure she was still alive.
If we ever got out of here and went somewhere without vampires, I wanted to be able to take her with me.
But I didn't know where Phil's room was, so I had to ask the maid.
"Jenny! What are you looking for?"
Anna came out of nowhere and startled me.
"I'm looking for Erin, do you know where she is?"
I inquired to Anna.
"Jenny, listen up, don't look for her, go back to your room and stay there and don't go anywhere!"
Anna's expression became serious.
