Chapter 23: The beautiful basket
While the search was going on, Jimmy came to meet me. As soon as he came, I looked at him and looked away,
"Thanks for not telling anyone," he said but I remained quiet. "I'm sorry everyone thinks you cheated on Jones, it is all my fault,"
"Dont blame yourself Jimmy, it is my fault, I never knew dating Jones was like going to prison, now I can't even keep secrets because I'm dating him,"
"Hey, don't say that, he's only upset that....,"
Upset that what?" I yelled and everyone looked at me, "Lower your voice," Jimmy said and covered my mouth with his palm, "Leave me alone, upset that what, That I cheated on him? Why in God's name would I cheat on Jones in the same place where we made our tents? His tent is just a few steps away from mine so If I wanted to cheat on Jones what's stopping me from waiting till midnight when everyone is asleep or even going into the bush, they are trees around us so to cheat in this environment is not going to be a problem. Look I'm smart, I'm a straight A's girl and I'm smart enough to know that it would be dumb to cheat on Jones in my tent...,"
"Hey, hey, hey, it's okay," Jimmy interrupted, "You'll be fine,"
"Arrg it's just so annoying," I said and groaned.
After lots of hours of searching, we couldn't find anything valuable and it was so annoying because it was getting late and if we didn't find anything, we fail. Jimmy asked everyone to gather around as the group leader so we all could find a way to look for something valuable but when he asked everyone to gather around, they all ignored him.
Victoria sighed,
"Alright guys I know we all are mad at Jimmy and Angie but we can't afford to fail. If we can't find anything we fail so let's just put aside our differences and listen to Jimmy," said Victoria. Everyone gathered round as Jimmy said and waited for him to speak,
"Okay, so what's the plan Jimmy?" Ciara asked,
"Okay so our goal is to find anything valuable and make something useful. 4 years ago I was thought how to make a basket with leaves, not just any leaves but leaves from a palm tree," he said,
"So you want us to make a basket?" Chris asked weirdly.
"Well, what else do you want us to do? We've been here for hours and we haven't found anything," Jimmy said,
"Okay, so what do you want us to do now?" Victoria asked,
"I want us to look for palm tree leaves so I could use them to make a basket,".
Everyone did as Jimmy asked, they were lots of palm trees in the woods so it wasn't a problem getting the leaves. We got a lot of palm tree leaves and gave them to Jimmy, then he made a basket with the leaves. To be honest, when Jimmy said he could make a basket with palm tree leaves what I could picture was a weird-looking basket but when he was done, we were so amazed by his work. The basket was so pretty that I wished I could keep it. It was big and strong and he designed it with flowers. When he was done making the basket, he asked us to find different fruits so we could fill them in the basket. We did what he asked and it turned out to be great.
We all were so happy that we could already picture our A.
We retired back to our tents and only two groups were there. The first group didn't find anything while the second group gathered a lot of twigs and claimed they could be used as firewood. As soon as everyone saw our basket, they were all amazed. After everyone had complimented our basket, the leader of the first group that couldn't get anything came to us, they asked how we made the basket but we refused to tell him. He begged us for a long while, then we asked him to meet Jimmy. He went to Jimmy and asked if there was any other thing they could make with palm tree leaves and Jimmy claimed he could. He asked Jimmy what he could make and Jimmy told him all he could make with the leave of a palm tree, at last, he made them a mat with the leaves of a palm tree.
After some hours everyone returned to the camping area. Our geography teacher came out of her tent and asked all group leaders to come forward and represent their group with what they found.
Group A had nothing, the group leader claimed that they couldn't find anything valuable in the woods so she gave him and the group members an F.
Group B had a mat, we made them the mat. Our teacher kind of liked it so she gave them a C, they all groaned but she ignored them and went to the next group.
Group C which was my group had a basket filled with fruits. When our geography teacher saw the basket, she was so amazed. She complimented the basket for a long while and gave us an A. We all cheered ourselves but everyone was still mad at Jimmy so they couldn't compliment his good leadership.
Group D's work was also great. They made a flower vase with twigs and added different kinds of flowers inside, our geography teacher gave them a B
While Group E got an F because all they did was gather twigs.
When we were done, we had dinner but I couldn't eat because I was still upset and worried about Jones.
One of the things that hunt me down in this relationship is that if Jones hurt me, I would want to be the one to apologize. I'm so addicted to Jones that I can't even imagine us breaking up, it would break my heart so well and I might not be able to survive it. I guess this is why I never wanted to fall in love in the first place, this is messed up, and now I can't do without him, in fact life makes no sense without him.
