Chapter 28: A warm apology

While the class was ongoing, I wasn't focused because I was thinking about tonight and how it would be, it was going to be my first prom and with the kind of reputation I had, I'm likely to win an award. And there I was, thinking about tonight with a big smile on my face. While I was thinking, I heard my name but I wasn't sure someone called me, then I heard it again and this time it was louder. I came back to my senses and realized our teacher called my name. I glanced at her without saying anything,

"Angie, are you okay?" our teacher asked as everyone was glancing at me,

"Uh...yeah, I just, remembered something,"

"Okay," she said and covered the whiteboard marker, "So can you share what you were thinking about?"

"Uh...what?"

"Since you were so busy thinking while I was teaching, why can't you come up here and tell us what you were thinking about?" our teacher said and walked to the back of the class. I stood up and slowly headed to the front of the class, when I got there I looked at everyone nervously because I didn't know what to say and I couldn't tell them I was thinking about prom. I looked at everyone again and then I saw Betty which gave me an idea.

"I was thinking about one person," I said and looked away from Betty so she won't suspect I'm talking about her, "This person I was thinking about is not just a friend, but an angel. She was there for me when I had no one, she's a sister and a friend, and she's mad at me but I hope someday she forgives me," I said and looked back at Betty.

"Okay Angie, I hope this friend of yours forgives you," our teacher said and walked back to the front of the class while I headed to my seat.

12:00 PM

It's finally lunchtime at school and everyone is at the cafeteria having lunch. When I got my food tray, I stood at a spot looking for Betty and then I saw her sitting with Lola and the girls. I headed to them but on my way, Ella saw me,

"Hey Angie, come sit with us," she said,

"Just a sec," I said and headed to Betty's table, when I got there, I stood and looked at her. Everyone at the table was looking at me so I dropped my tray on the table and sat next to Betty.
"Betty, I'm so so sorry I forgot about you, I swear you were always in my heart and...,"

"No Angie, I'm sorry, it's my fault. I shouldn't have pushed you to get a boyfriend so it's my fault," Betty said,

I smiled,
"You remember that day in 8th grade when Mr Karim asked us to form a song with his lyrics..."

"Yeah," Betty interrupted and began to laugh," That you used Sam and Cat theme song as your composed song," she said and continued to laugh,

"Yeah," I said and laughed, "But then I saw Angel and forgot everything I practised,"

"And then I helped you," Betty said with a smile on her face,

"Yeah, yeah you helped me," I said with a smile on my face. "You're my best friend Betty and I love you so much,"

"I love you too girl," I said and we both hugged.

While we were hugging, Lola interrupted,
"Uh... Angie, you owe us an apology too," she said,

"Yeah," I said and let go of Betty, "I'm so sorry guys,"

"Well we would forgive you if you buy us lunch tomorrow," Lola said,

"Uh... Tomorrow is Saturday weirdo," Benita said,

"Okay okay, how about, we hang out tomorrow, all bills on me," I said,

"Okay, that sounds great," Benita said and the other girls agreed to it.

After lunch, we went to the next class. But while we were heading to the next class, Betty held my hand and said something really sweet to me.

"Angie, I've known you for five years now, and five years is more than enough to find out all you need to know about someone. You try your best to please everyone, you're so soft and all that, but I get it. Youre the most popular girl in school now and you hang out with the popular girls and you forgot me,"

"Betty, I'm so sorry, i...,"

"No no no Angie, I'm not mad at you," she said and rubbed my face with both her hands, "If it was me I would do the same. But while you're hanging with the popular girls, please don't forget me,"

"Betty I would never forget you, youre a part of me, without you there is no me,"

Betty smiled,
"I know Angie, you're a part of me too and I promise, after we graduate from high school, you'll realize this whole popular girls thingy is just us trying to have fun and the real friends are the ones that love us for who we are. I can assure you Victoria and Ella won't be that close after we graduate,"

"Well they might still be friends, I don't know,"

"But they won't be close, you know why I say so?"

"Why?" I asked

"At Ella's party, there was a video of Ella dancing naked going viral and while I was watching that video, I realized Victora was there but she couldn't even help her, I mean who sees her friend dancing naked in front of a lot of people and ignores her,"

I sighed and became speechless,

"The point is, be careful with the popular girls, they can do anything crazy just for fun, and most importantly," she said and whispered in my ear,
"Be very careful with Jones," she said and walked to class leaving me standing where I was wondering why she asked me to be careful with Jones, Because she seemed so serious about it. shortly after, I headed to class.
