Chapter 33: Mom's story
I arrived home by 9 AM, when I got home mom and dad were having breakfast. They saw me and welcomed me home and when they saw me with an award and a crown, they were so happy for me. I walked to the shelve and dropped the award and the crown next to mom's 20th award, after I dropped it, I stood in front of the shelves looking at the trophies. Then mom walked to me and placed her arm around my neck,
"Congrats baby," she said, we both looked at ourselves and smiled, "At least everyone in this house has a trophy except one person," Mom said and looked at dad.
"Okay, I have over a hundred trophies but it's an online trophy,"
"Really? Let me guess, it's on your online shelf," mom said as we both began to laugh at dad.
"Okay, I was the one that made you popular in high school," Dad said to mom,
"No you're not, you were a nobody, and I liked you, dated you and made you somebody," mom said,
"Well, what proof do you have that you were popular in high school ?"
"Well the trophies don't lie," mom said and gave me a high five.
"You know what, I'm out of here," Dad said and went up to his room while I and mom stayed in the sitting room, laughing at dad. I went up to my room and changed my dress, my room was still messy though. I wore something light and went down to have breakfast with Mom. While we were having breakfast, I asked her to continue the story she was telling me before I went to prom.
"Okay, so I was popular in high school, everyone loved me and I was kinda proud. No one messed with me in fact if anyone did, I had guys who had my back As usual. Everyone wanted to be friends with me, a lot of guys were asking me out but I wasn't just in love with any of them. Until I met your father. The thing is I was an introvert, my mom raised me in such a way that I hated to go out, so in as much as I was popular, I was an introvert. So I liked your dad and he liked me too but he was one of the boys in class everyone hated, so to keep my reputation high, I had to find a way to kill the feeling but it was impossible, I guess we both were meant to be,"
"Okay but what later happened, how then did he take you away from grandma?"
"Well, he didn't take me away from my mom the way you think, I left my mom because of him, okay let me tell you something, every day I came back from school, mom was always there to check my books and my scores and all that. But I was busy thinking about your father that I began to flunk, I was dying inside because the feelings were just too much. One day I had a C in math, when I got home and my mom found out, she almost hit me. I got scared and ran out of the house and started living with my best friend as of then, Sophia. Well to cut the long one short Sophia made me confess my feelings to your dad and we became a couple. Later on I left Sophia and started living with your father, I lied that I lost my parents and Because of that, your father's parents took care of my studies and sent me to college," she said and sighed, "Ever since then I've never set my eyes on my mother,"
"Wait, what, So you just left her like that?" I asked,
"Yes," mom said feeling guilty.
"But why mom,"
"Because the pressure was too much on me, she pressured me to keep getting A's and all that. If she knew I was in love with your father she would have killed me, worse of all I had a C in math and....,"
"And you feel the best thing you could do is run away?" I interrupted,
"Yes," mom yelled, she sighed, "I'm sorry I raised my voice, but I had to,"
"But if you were always introverted, how then did you win all those trophies?"
"Well I sneak out at night to attend parties," mom said. "That's one of the reasons why I keep an eye on you, I don't want what happened between me and my mother to happen to you and I,"
I sighed,
"Mom you have to go meet grandma, so you got married to dad, did a wedding and you didn't even invite her, how the hell is that even possible, what about your siblings and relatives," I asked and mom remained quiet, "What about your dad?"
"He was always busy, I could count how many times I saw him in my life, I was an only child and even my uncles and aunties didn't know about it, it's complicated baby.... Angie, high school life is sweet, it's sweeter than life in the university, but if you aren't careful, you would ruining your life,"
"Mom you're the second person saying this to me,"
"Who else told you?" mom asked,
"Victoria,"
"Wow, it turns out that she is a good person,"
"Yes mom, but you have to see your grandma, how would you feel if I get married without telling you, how would you feel if I leave you for more than 10 years without saying anything, it's a horrible thing mom,"
"It was her fault,"
"And your reaction was too harsh, please we need to go see grandma, I planned to hang out with Betty and the girls today but I would cancel, they would understand," I said and stood up to get ready so I and mom could go visit grandma, "Wait, do you still know where she lives?" I asked,
"Yeah, but it's going to take two hours to get there," mom said,
"Okay, let's go, mom, let me get my phone," I said and ran up to my room while mom headed to her room to get dressed. When mom got to her room, dad asked her where she was heading and she said she was going to visit grandma, Dad became a little nervous because he still believes it was his fault mom and grandma got separated.
"You have to come with us honey," mom said to dad,
"Why?"
"To prove to my mom that you're sorry and it's not your fault," said mom,
Dad sighed,
"Okay," he said and slowly got dressed so he could follow us to grandma's place.
