Chapter 62: Emotional Damage
Deep down, I began to pray that Timmy doesn't ask for something I can't do.
"And what is that?" I asked nervously,
"I want you to break up with Jones," he said.
I became a bit confused,
"Break up with Jones?" I asked,
"Look, I'm not saying this as a threat, neither I'm I telling you to do it or I would put the pictures back on the school page, I can't afford to watch a good girl suffer in the hands of a playboy," he said,
"Playboy?" I asked looking confused,
"Listen, I'm a boy and I know what a playboy looks like and I can tell he's one. The way he kissed Victoria last night without even caring about your feelings, and how he wasn't there for you when those guys were trying to rape you," he said,
What he was saying was really getting into my head, it was making me feel like I made the wrong choice dating Jones. I remained quiet for a short while, then I stood up,
"Uh... I have to be going, thanks for helping me I really appreciate it," I said,
"All good," he said then I headed out, before I left, he called my name, then I turned and looked at him, "It's for your own good," he said but I remained quiet, then I walked out of his house.
While I was heading home, Jones called me but I didn't pick up the call, Victoria called me but I didn't pick up the call too. A few minutes after they called, my phone started ringing again, I looked at it and saw it was Betty's Dad. My heart skipped a beat and I became so nervous. I picked up the call and put it in my ear,
"Hello Mr Rollins,"
"Angie, some hours ago I got a text from an unknown number telling me that Betty is in the hospital, I'm trying to call her but she's not picking so I was wondering if you could help me check up on her because I'm so worried," he said.
"O-okay," I stuttered,
"Alright, thanks Angie,"
"You're welcome Mr Rollins," I said and ended the call. After the call I became devastated. I didn't know how to tell him that she was in the hospital. Even though Timmy helped me get the picture out of the school site, I was still restless. I walked back to the hospital and gave Betty's Dad a call, immediately his phone rang, he picked up the call,
"Hello Angie,"
"Hello Mr Rollins,"
"Have you seen Betty, is she okay?" he asked,
I took a while,
"No sir, she's in the hospital,"
"What, How come, what happened? He said,
"I think she was..."
"I'll be there right away," he interrupted and hung up the call. I waited in the hospital for him to come and after 30 minutes, he arrived. As soon as he walked into the room, I stood and looked at him but he didn't look at me, he rushed to Betty and held her face,
"Betty," he said but she didn't answer, he called her again but she didn't answer so he turned and looked at me,
"How did this happen?" he asked,
"Sir, I think she was assaulted,"
"How, by who?"
"I'm not sure sir,"
"Talk to me, who did this?" he yelled,
"Lola," I said. When I said this, I could see the disappointment on his face.
"Lola, you mean your friend?" he asked,
"Yes sir," I said.
He remained quiet for a short while,
"But why would she do this?" he asked,
I didn't want to tell him the full story so I told him I have no idea why she did that.
"I'm going to her house," he said and tried to leave but I stopped him, "She's not there," I said, "Then where is she?" "I have no idea," I said.
He looked at me curiously,
"I have a feeling that you know what happened," he said.
"No sir I don't know what happened,"
"Don't lie to me Angie, when I told you about the text I received from an unknown number you didn't seem to be surprised, and I never mentioned the name of the hospital when I called you so How did you know it was this hospital?" he asked,
When he said this, I knew there was absolutely nothing I could say to convince him that I didn't know about it. I told him the full story of how it started and how it resulted in Betty's assault. He felt extremely horrible when I told him the full story. Seconds after I told the story, Jones and Victoria walked into the room,
"I couldn't find Lola," he said,
"Is this the Jones?" Betty's Dad asked,
"Yeah," I said. Mr Rollins stood up and walked to him,
"So it's because of you that my daughter got assaulted," he said and held his neck then I, Victoria and some nurses separated the fight.
"I swear if my daughter doesn't make it out of this and I don't find Lola, I would kill you," he said and walked out of the hospital.
The moment he walked out of the hospital, Jones looked at me,
"You told him what happened?" he said,
"No, he found out, I didn't have any other choice,"
"And you told him?" Victoria asked,
"He didn't leave me with another choice," I yelled, then they looked at me surprisingly, "You both are making this hard for me. After you sent him the text this morning he called to ask if it was true and I told him I didn't know about it. He told me to check Betty's house so I came back here instead and called him, I told him it was true and he came and found me here. He knew I know something about it because he never told me the name of the hospital you sent him. I'm sorry I told him okay," I yelled then they both remained quiet. Immediately after I yelled at them, my phone rang and it was a call from Mom. I ended the call without picking up and headed home without saying anything.
