Chapter 70: Believe.
The next day, when the bell rang for the first period, our new principal asked us to come to the school's auditorium. We all went to the school's auditorium hoping she has good news for us. When we got there, we sat and waited for the announcement,
"Good morning everyone," she said and we all replied, "As you all know I'm in charge now, and I want the best for you all, So I'm lifting one rule in the school which is your outfit, starting from next week, you all would be given school uniforms," she said and we all groaned, "Well get used to it, but don't worry it would be a nice uniform. This is not a government school guys, this is a private school, and if you think it was a public school, it's a private school now. Now get back to class," she said and everyone headed to class.
Just by this, I could tell she was going to be a tough principal, it was her first day and she has brought up uniforms to the school, anyway, I would graduate very soon so it wasn't my problem.
After school, I was heading home and Jones walked to me, he put his arms around my neck and kissed my cheek,
"Babe," he said,
"Hi Jones, can you imagine Principal Benjamin, it's her first day and now we are a private school,"
Jones chuckled,
"Yeah, I knew she would be a crazy person," he said,
"How did you know?"
"I just felt it, I know what a crazy person looks like," he said, "Anyways so tomorrow you'll be going to Victoria's pool party,"
"Yeah, I guess,"
"Have fun, I have to be in my grandma's house for my grandpa's remembrance," he said,
"Awww, you have to go, baby, if you don't I'm sure he would be mad at you,"
"Of course, which is why I'm going," he said.
While we were going, he was heading to the school field and I was heading home. "Where are you going ?" I asked,
"To the field, you remember we are supposed to train after school for the civil city competition," he said,
"Oh, that's true,"
"And guess who is the team captain?" he asked,
I chuckled,
"Yeah I know it's you, baby," I said and smiled,
"Exactly," he said and we both laughed, "I'll see you when I get back baby," he said and headed to the field, while he was going, I called him and he turned and looked at me, "What is it baby?" he asked, "You're forgetting one thing," I said and pointed at my lips then he smiled and walked to me and kissed me, "I love you, baby," he said, "I love you too," I replied, then we both parted ways.
While I was going home, I met Anita and Benita, then we headed home together. At our home we discussed our new principal, thereafter we spoke about Betty. The fact that she's still in the hospital today is really scary. We decided to pay her a visit to the hospital.
At the hospital.
Betty was still lying unconscious, the only improvement was the bruises had cleared off her face a little. Whenever I come to see Betty, I get a little emotional because I just get that feeling that it's my fault. While we were at the hospital, A doctor walked into the room and met us with her.
"Girls, how are you doing today?" The doctor asked,
We turned and looked at him,
"We're good, thanks doc," I said,
"Aww I know you're sad because of your friend," the doctor said and we all looked at Betty sadly. "You see, when a patient is in a coma, the only thing that can heal the person is if her friend strongly believes she would be fine," he said,
"Really?" I asked,
"Yeah, I'm a doctor and I see this happens all the time. The best thing Betty, that's her name right ?"
"Yes doctor," I replied,
"Okay, the best thing Betty needs from you three is your trust and believe, if you believe she would be fine, I can assure you she will, but if you're scared she won't make it, she might not make it,"
I sighed,
"Thanks, doctor, but has it ever happened? Like someone believing in her friend and she later survived ?"
"Of course. You see Betty is not dead, a coma is just like a long deep sleep that is hard to wake up. When you're in a coma, you're in a deep sleep, so just believe she would be fine, the bruises on her face are gone, it's just left for her to wake up," said the doctor.
"Thank you so much doctor," I said and looked at Betty again, I held her hands, "Please wake up," I said silently but she couldn't hear me. I sat close to her and slowly rubbed her face.
"I know you're in there Betty and you can hear me. I miss you, we all miss you, Betty, please wake up, it's been months already," I said but she couldn't hear me, then Anita walked to me from behind and held my shoulders,
"It's okay," she said politely, "Let's go, she would be fine, you heard what the doctor said," she said, I slowly stood up and then we headed out of the hospital.
I don't wish for a coma for even my enemies, I don't wish a coma for Lola no matter how much I hate her right now. It's just so painful, the fact that the patient is alive and still breathing is a miracle and it gives hope but the fact that she's in a 50/50 chance of surviving makes it even worse and hard to believe in the person. I hope she wakes up, she's an only child and she's gone so far to die right now. I pray she makes it out, but if she don't I would never forgive Lola.
