Chapter 84: Damn...
Current dAy
In as much as no one knows the value of freedom, no one knows the pressure of knowing the date of your death and waiting patiently for it. I'm sure Jesus cried before he was crucified because this pressure, is just too much for anyone to bear.
By midday I heard footsteps approaching my cell, when I heard the footsteps coming closer, my heart was banging and I began to sweat. An officer walked to my cell and opened it,
"Angie, please come with me," she said, I walked out of the cell and she closed it and locked it back. She took me to an office where I saw the vice mayor, some police officers and the lawyer who judged my case. I stood from a distance watching them,
"Please go in Angie," she said, I walked closer to them and remained quiet,
"Miss Angie, how are you?" The Vice mayor asked,
"I'm fine Mr Vice Mayo,"
"Well I have what might be good news, you aren't going for the death penalty anymore," he said,
When he said this, I was quite happy but I was so curious to know why so I didn't celebrate.
"I'm so glad to hear that Mr Mayo but can I ask why?"
"Okay. 3 days after you killed Jones, one of the F.B.I was wandering around and then she found the basement and you know what was surprising about this basement? This basement was locked with 6 different padlocks. Out of curiosity, she called us to check it out and we decided we were going to break the door down, and when we did, we saw over a hundred dead bodies in the basement. We called our detective and it was confirmed that Jones was a human organ dealer, he's responsible for the death of various missing people in America,"
"Oh my God," I said surprisingly. Maybe that's why he never wanted to tell me what business he was into, Jones is a murderer.
"We would love to release you but since you killed him for breaking your heart, you'll only stay in prison for 4 years. You are going to prison because you killed someone and if he wasn't an organ dealer, you've killed an innocent man. And we aren't sure people who hurt you are safe outside so you are staying for just four years," said the judge,
Well, four years is too much, but I was quite happy because I won't get to die anymore.
"You are very lucky your friend found the basement, if not you would have been dead by now," said one of the police officers,
"Yeah thank God, but which friend are you talking about?" I asked,
"That would be me,"
Someone said from behind, when I turned, I saw Betty standing at the door, without saying anything I ran to her and hugged her,
"Betty, oh my God, you're alive,"
"I am Angie, I'm so happy to see you," she said. After we hugged, she held my face with both hands,
"I fucked up Betty, I fucked up big time," I said with tears rolling out my eyes,
"No, Angie, it is not your fault, I should have been there for you, I should have stopped you from dating that ... murderer,"
"My life is destroyed, Betty,"
"Angie don't say that...,"
"I'm sorry to interrupt but it's time to go," one of the officers said to me,
"I promise I would come to visit all week Angie, I promise," Betty said as an officer politely pulled me away from the office.
