Chapter 27: Few hours to prom

Beep Beep ...Beep Beep

The alarm clock sounded. I stood up and stretched because I was so tired, I slept late last night because I was upset. I walked into the bathroom and grabbed my toothpaste, I picked up my toothbrush and added a little toothpaste to it and began to brush my teeth. While I was brushing my teeth I was looking at myself in the mirror. When I was done, I took a shower and got dressed for school. I walked to my pillow, raised it and took all the money that was left and then I went downstairs to have breakfast. When I got downstairs, Dad and mom were at the dining table already.
I got to the dining table without saying anything and sat on one of the chairs there, I picked a slice of bread and rubbed a little peanut butter on it, and then I had a bite.

"So, Angie you got some Chinese food yesterday and you didn't eat it at last," Dad said,

"I lost my appetite," I said,

"Okay," Dad said.

I and mom didn't look at each other, we didn't even act like we were at the table. I finished the first bread I was eating and picked another one, I added some peanut butter to it and ate it,

"Aren't you going to at least have a coffee or something?" Dad asked,

"I'm okay Dad," I said. After eating two slices of bread I stood up and headed to school. Immediately I left, Mom sighed,

"Her attitude is getting worse," said Mom

"I know honey, but she would be fine, it's normal for a teenager to go through hard times,"

"Yeah but how hard is it that she invited a boy over and gave him your robe, by the way, where is the robe?"

"I left it with him,"

Mom gave dad a hard look,
"I gave you that robe as a gift and you gave it away,"

"Relax, he would bring it back today,"

"I don't care, I'm never going to give you a gift again," Mom said and sipped a little coffee. "By the way what is the name of that boy?"

"Uh... His name is uh... Yeah, Jonathan Escott,"

"Jonathan Escott?"

"Yeah but he prefers to be called Jones, you know JONathan EScott, the Jon in his name and Es in his surname,"

"Yeah, I think Angie has told me about him before," mom said and sighed, "He better not be the reason why Angie has changed so much, if not I'll kill him," she said.

"Easy, come on just leave them, she can't be our little Angie forever, by next year she would be in college and you won't be there so leave her, the things we've thought would guide her," said Dad.

"I guess you're right, maybe I should stop worrying too much about Angie," Mom said

"Good, now let's hurry or we'll be late for work," Dad said as they began to round up in the dining.

While I was on my way to school I was listening to music through my headphones, and then I saw Betty's house down the road. I began to remember the times we spent together and how we went to school together. I walked to her house and stood at the door, I wanted to knock but I didn't have the courage. I pulled out my phone and tried to call her but I was just scared she won't answer me. I kept my phone back in my pocket and left her door because I wasn't confident enough to see her or talk to her.
When I arrived at school, they'd already started putting up decorations for tonight, the school auditorium was decorated and people were happily waiting for tonight. I arrived at my class and saw people cheering Jimmy. I asked one of my classmates what happened and he claimed that Jimmy asked Ella to be his date for tonight. Well, I was happy for them but I didn't show it. I walked to meet Jones and apologised for last night but he claimed it was fine and honestly I was surprised, I thought he might be mad at me because of the attitude mom gave him and for asking him to leave at last and even inviting him over when my parents were around.
"So are you ready for tonight?" Jones asked,

"Sure, I can't even wait," I said and smiled,

"Well you have to, you can't speed the clock," he said then we both laughed.

"You know that's one thing about time, the moment you want it to be fast, it becomes slow, and when you need time, it flies," I said,

"Well that's true, but it's just the way we think of time, which is why sometimes time might seem slow to me and fast to you," he said. While we were talking, Victoria walked to us, she held my shoulders and looked at Jones,
"Could you excuse us for a second," she said to Jones and pulled me to one side of the class,

"What's up Victoria, what's wrong?" I asked,

"Angie, I know it's a weird question but do you have the confidence to speak in front of almost everyone in school?"

"What? No," I said

"You can't ?"

"Of course not," I said,

"Okay, you can go back to Jones now," she said and smiled, "But don't tell him what I asked okay?"

"Okay but why did you....," I wanted to ask her why she asked but then the bell went for the first period and a teacher walked into my class so I went to sit.
