Chapter 14

(Owen POV)

My mind was fogged with anger seeing that blood beast near my mate. I wanted to rip him limb from limb, but when Amelia had stepped in between us and been hurt because of my lack of control my wolf whimpered in guilt. We had hurt our mate, even though it was a mistake it was enough to my heart ache. My anger was unwavering, but I needed to understand what was happening, and that meant letting her explain. The woman named Isa said this was her doing, but was it really because I was not enough to protect Amelia?

There was so much I still did not understand, and I hated that feeling of confusion. So, when Amelia asked for the three of us to sit and talk, I reluctantly agreed. I sat not letting my eye move from watching the blood beast until the sound of Amelia’s voice hit me. Everything about her captured my attention whenever we were together, and it made my heart race instantly. Once we were all seated, she reaches for my hand and the gentle touch of her skin was enough to calm me.

“I’m so sorry Owen.” She says first. “I know you must be furious about this, but I swear I was just as confused. This was not at all what I expected.”

She felt guilty, but this was not her doing.

“No. I’m sorry! I’m so sorry I hurt you.” That was what hurt the most and I needed her to know she was safe with me.

“You didn’t mean to hurt me Owen, let’s just forget about it ok?” Her beautiful eyes looked at me with forgiveness and understanding.

I wanted to kiss her so bad and make her smile again, but this was not the time.

She moves to pull her hand away, and without much thought I stop her and take it in my own hand instead. The blood beast shifts in his seat which catches my eye and he quirks his lip as if to warn me not to do anything more. I smirk at him when Amelia happily accepts my hand and gives it a reassuring squeeze.

“Look I know that this is crazy and seems impossible for the three of us to coexist, but we need to find a way to. So that means you two have to try not to kill each other every time you are in the same room, because honestly, I can’t deal with that on top of everything else right now.” She says with a defeated sigh.

“You’re right. We are here to help you focus on your powers. All of this can wait until we get back home.” I say offering an assuring smile.

“Yes, I promise to behave while we are here.” The blood beast says with an annoying grin.

I really hate that guy.

“Once you are settled in the pack, you will feel more at ease as well.” I add.

She turns to look at me with a confused expression, and the blood beast looked annoyed.

“What do you mean?” Amelia asks.

“Well, it’s common for a mate to move into the pack house. Even if we haven’t mated yet, it would be expected that you come to live with the pack so they can meet you and get to know you as the future Luna.” I explain.

She releases my hand then and shifts in her seat, looking a little uncomfortable.

“I’m sorry Owen but I don’t think that is a good idea just yet.” She says “Alexander is going to need to be with me as well, and I am not sure your pack is ready to accept a blood beast onto their land so suddenly. It may take a little time before they will accept the situation.”

Again, I can feel my anger building up, threating a growl from deep in my throat.

“It is customary when a member of the pack finds their mate, that the newfound mate be moved into the pack house. But you rather remain in that small apartment because of this blood beast. Why can he not live elsewhere?” I ask my voice growing louder.

“I am her soul mate; I will remain with her at all times.” The blood beast chimes in.

I clench my hands into tight fists closed, close to drawing blood.

“She is to be Luna; she needs to be with the pack. They will kill you the moment you set a single foot on our land.” I growl out.

“Then you need to convince them! Because I am not going anywhere!” The blood beast moved closer, challenging me.

His eyes flash to a golden color and I respond with a warning of my own.

“ENOUGH! This isn’t helping the situation. If there is no compromise than we are not going to get anywhere with this back and forth.” Amelia is between us once again, and I shrink back at the reminder that I had hurt her only minutes ago because I was being too hot headed.

So, I tried to calm myself, pulling back and putting distance between me and the blood beast. My possessive side was making this negotiation difficult to accept, and even though we had decided to let this go I had provoked the situation. Amelia had asked to wait to discuss this and I was being stubborn by bringing it up anyway.

“Maybe we just need to give everyone a little space until we can all calm down. Alexander, I would like to speak to Owen for a little while. Can you give us a minute?” Amelia asks.

The blood beast looked close to protesting but gave in a blink of an eye he had vanished.

“Creepy.” I mumble, earning a glare from Amelia.

“Owen I know this situation may go against pack tradition, but it is what we have to deal with. We can’t change what has happened, but I will do my best to meet you halfway. If it is easier, I can spend half my time at the apartment with Alexander and half my time at the pack with you.” I give her a pouty face hoping to earn myself sympathy and more time with her.

She gives me a soft smile and walks over to stand in front of me offering her hands.

“I hate that this is causing you so much trouble, and if I could change this I would so you didn’t have to deal with it. But I know we can figure this out!” She says.

I release her hands and wrap my arms around her waist instead, resting my head against her stomach. She giggles softly before gently hugging me back.

“I’m sorry! I just really hate that guy, and I am a little possessive of you already. Sharing you is going to be the hardest thing I have ever had to do.” I say.

“We will figure this out I promise. It just seems overwhelming because so much is going on, but I know we can figure this out!” She says with determination.

I look up to her and smile. “You’re right. We will make this work, because I don’t want to give you up even if that means sharing you with that blood beast.”

“Alexander. His name is Alexander.” She says, and I groan hiding my face in her shirt.

She laughs and pulls away from me slightly. “Maybe if you guys get to know each other things wouldn’t feel so uncomfortable. Since I will be training with the elder tomorrow, maybe you boys could spend some time together!”

I look up at her with a raised brow.

“Please?” She asks sweetly melting my resolve.

“Ok.” I say giving in to her.

She was not asking me for much, so how could I say no. Because even if this whole mess seemed crazy and stressful for me, it was two times worse for her. She was the one who had to carry so much on her shoulders, the least I could do was try and make things a little easier for her. I couldn’t guarantee that the blood beast and I would become best friends, but maybe we could agree to coexist in peace for Amelia’s sake. If Miss Isa was right, she was going to need us both on her side to get through this, and I was going to be there.
