Chapter 15

(Amelia POV)

After spending a short hour with Owen, I felt a little less nervous about what was waiting for me during training the following day. Alexander did not return right away either, which gave me some needed alone time. I wanted to mentally prepare myself for the strain I would take trying to access my powers. I also needed to check on Anaya.

‘Anaya? Are you alright?’ I start.

‘A little tired.’ She replies, and I could hear it in her voice that she really was exhausted.

‘What is happening?’ I ask.

‘I have been trying to speak with the others, but it is strange to say the least. They are not like completely conscious as you would expect. It seems as if their more human qualities are gone and they exist only to pass on their power to you. Almost like an echo. They keep trying to merge with your mind and body to pass on their energy, to activate their abilities within you. It must be that once their human hosts had passed, their mission was to find a new host and that is all. They do not exist for any other purpose than to be the means of activating the white wolf’s powers. If that makes sense. They are eager and hard to keep in control because they keep bombarding me trying to connect with you. Clearly though they are not easy to keep under control.’ She explains.

‘Yes, I have only had a small sample of what they can make me do. I know you have tried to keep them somewhat under control and I appreciate that Anaya, but I do not want you to be hurt continuing to do so. I am supposed to begin training with the elder tomorrow, so maybe it would be ok to release your hold on them completely. I am alone now; it may be safe to begin the transition now.’ I offer.

‘If you wish, but I cannot promise that they will be gentle. They are quite eager, and it may overwhelm you. You are still half human; we don’t know how you will react. Just the small amount you have experienced had a strong effect. So, are you absolutely sure?’ She asks hesitating.

‘Yes, let’s just get this over with.’ I say determined.

‘Ok here we go.’ She says and I close my eyes readying myself.

At first, I felt nothing, which made me open my eyes in confusion. Then I heard them, and the way Anaya described it was true. They sounded like echoes in my mind, repeating themselves over and over. It sounded like nonsense to me, perhaps some form of ancient language, I couldn’t be sure. I closed my eyes and tried to focus and stay calm. Their voices grew louder until it was the only thing I could hear, and it was becoming too intense. I lifted my hands to cover my ears but that did not help silence anything because this was all in my mind. I started to feel a sharp pain in my head, like a thousand knives were piercing me all over. I bit hard down on my lip to muffle the scream of pain that wanted to escape my mouth, but it was too intense and small whimpers escaped instead. I wrapped my arms around my body now trying to ease the pain somehow, nothing helped. Anaya was right, it was overwhelming me!

I curled up into the fetal position, making my body as small as possible trying to stay quiet. The pain was coming in waves almost like a pulse and the chanting voices would not subside. I was sure I could not take much more! A cry escaped me, and another until I could not hold the sounds in any longer.

“Amelia? What’s wrong?” A faint voice broke through the chorus of voices in my mind.

I opened my eyes enough to see Alexander kneeling in front of me, his hand hovering just above me. He seemed scared to touch me, because he did not know where I was hurt.

“A-ale….it hurts!” Is all I could get out between cries.

“What hurts? Where are you hurt?” He asks scanning over me to look for any obvious injuries. “I don’t see any injuries, where does it hurt?”

“Everywhere!” I yell out whimpering once the word was said.

“Ok, hold on I will go and get some help!” He says vanishing once again.

‘Amelia? Amelia? Are you alright? We should stop this!’ Anaya warns.

I wanted to agree, but a new wave of intense pressure pushes against the walls of my skin. Like I would explode any minute! My cries grew with the increase in stimulation.

“Amelia, we have to stop this! Your body is about to rip apart!’ Anaya warns again.

With each warning she gave the pain would grow, and now I was sure I would never feel a pain worse than this. I would rather die than suffer this pain much longer. My door flies open suddenly with Natalia and Owen entering the room, followed by Alexander suddenly appearing as well.

“She said she hurts all over, but I could not see any injuries.” Alexander’s muffled voice said.

Natalia walks to me reaching her hand out and resting it on my shoulder for a moment only to pull it back with a shout just as quickly.

(Owen POV)

When we arrived at Amelia’s room, she was lying on the floor crying out in pain, but I could not see where she was hurt. Natalia stepped up to help her only to let out a shout of pain and jump back.

“What happened?” I ask grabbing her shoulders to keep her standing.

“Her skin feels like fire!” Natalia says.

“Well, what do we do? She is in pain, but we can’t even touch her!” I growl out in frustration.

“I don’t know.” Natalia says cradling her injured hand.

Amelia moves around crying out and shaking violently, almost as if she is possessed and we watch her struggle not sure what to do.

Then with a sudden jerk she falls limp and silent. I run to her instantly and pick her up into my arms. Her skin is still hot, but it does not burn me, so I hold her close and Natalia kneels beside us reaching two fingers to Amelia’s neck. She mumbles something to herself and takes Amelia’s wrist instead and holds it waiting for a moment.

“I-I am not getting a pulse!” She says opening Amelia’s eyes.

She gasps when she sees them, because they are pure white.

“Oh my god.” She says opening Amelia’s other eye.

“What is it?” The Blood Beast, Alexander asks moving to the other side of me.

“Her eyes.” Natalia says standing and taking a step back. “I need to get the elder!”

Before I can question her, she is running out the door.

“Amelia? Wake up!” I say shaking her softly, but her body remains limp.

“What do we do? We need to do something!” The Blood Beast says frantically taking her hand and holding it tightly.

“What can we do? We don’t even know what’s happening!” I reply annoyed.

“She isn’t breathing! Can’t we do CPR or something?” He asks.

“If it was that simple Natalia would have tried that!” I reply returning to shaking Amelia, as if that would wake her.

I feel my chest tightening and my heart clenching tightly at the sight of my mate’s limp body.

“Amelia, Please!” I yell at her shaking her harder. “Wake up!”

Alexander squeezes her hand tighter mumbling under his shaky breath.

My arms ache from the motion of trying to wake Amelia, and I soon have to give up. I look down at her and let the reality set in, she was gone. I let out the whimper that had been trapped in my throat as continued to look at her peaceful figure. We had not spent enough time together; we were supposed to live a lifetime together!

Alexander also began to cry softly hiding his face in her hand.

That was until her whole body grew warm again and a glow began to appear around her. Alexander looked up and we watched in shock as the light around her grew brighter, too bright to look at directly. I held my free arm up trying to block my eyes from the intense light. It grew brighter and brighter and then with one last intense flash it was gone. Amelia gasped suddenly and began breathing rapidly, almost in a panic.

She sits up suddenly looking around the room in confusion.

“W-what happened?” She asks looking to me and then to Alexander.

We could not answer her just yet, being too surprised to rely.

She was alive, and her eyes…..they were the lightest blue I had ever seen.
