Chapter 40

The next day Amelia was hit with a rush at the café, and hardly noticed when Alexander stepped out. He had received a message from the friends he had contacted that they had arrived early. He hated the fact that they hadn’t made any plans of where to stay when they arrived which meant it was up to him to arrange everything. He had found a taxi available last minute to take him to the airport and pick the guys up. They mentioned in their message that they were unable to get together more volunteers, so two would have to do the trick.

This only further convinced Alexander that contacting them was a big mistake, but he had no other choice now but to work with what they were given. From the state of the two when he arrives at the pick-up section of the airport, was two drunken idiots flirting with every girl that passed by. Great two drunk unstable vampires in the middle of a crowd, just what he needed at 9AM.

“Alexi!” One called out when Alexander stepped out of the cab to drag them into the car.

“Elias. Enzo. Thanks for coming.” Alexander says greeting them with a firm nod.

“Ah! Alexi you have come to fetch us like a good lad! Now where will we be staying?” The older one asks wrapping his arm around Alexander’s shoulder.

“The finest hotel no doubt! Alexander never disappoints!” Enzo replies with a cheer.

“Actually, there are no luxury hotels near where we are going. If you had planned ahead before coming, perhaps the accommodations would have been more to your standards.” Alexander says shrugging of the arm weighing him down and signaling them to follow him to the cab.

They stumbled after him and climbed into the backseat of the cab, thankfully without making too much of a scene. At least not beyond their obvious drunk ramblings that no one seemed to care one bit about. Alexander asked the cab driver to drop them off back at the café, and as they drove off, he hoped he could sneak the inebriated vampires through the back door. He took out his phone and sent a quick text to Amelia to ask her to have the back door unlocked when he returned.

He had sent her a message when he was on his way to the airport that their reinforcements had arrived, and he was now kicking himself that he didn’t foresee that they would be smashed drunk on arrival making his job that much more difficult. He waited for a reply from Amelia, but none came, which only made him more anxious.

The ride to the café was thankfully uneventful, although he caught his two companions eyeing the cab driver with interest. The sort of interest that a vampire has for a human, and one that would leave this man’s family without answers when his body would be found. Alexander knew he was going to regret bringing these two here, and now more so because they were clearly in the mood for feeding and he was bringing them to a café full of unsuspecting humans. He was going to have to find a solution to this particular issue soon, but as far as he knew there were no groups of humans in the area willing to volunteer their blood. He himself had been surviving on animal blood until he met Amelia, but there was no way in hell he would these two have a drop of her blood.

“Here you are, back at the café!” the cab driver says with a cheerful smile.

Alexander quickly pays the man and exits the car, making quick work of pulling the other two out before they got any ideas.

“Hey, he could have been our lunch!” Enzo yells as the cab drives away.

“No.” Alexander says turning his back to lead them inside.

“What the hell happened to you? You used to not give a damn and now you are stopping us from feeding on a little cab driver!” Enzo was the least stable among the three, being a younger vampire didn’t help with having a good amount of self-control.

“I live here, and I don’t want bodies showing up and bringing attention to me! Got it!” Alexander yells back.

“So, you plan on starving us as well as using us! This is how you treat your old friends?” Enzo says with a smirk pushing Alexander aside.

“You know very well we were never friends!” Alexander shoots back.

Enzo stops and laughs. “You’re right. A friend wouldn’t have done what you did. Pining a dozen murders on a someone isn’t a very friendly thing to do now is it?”

Alexander could feel the anger radiating off of Enzo now, and knew he had made a mistake provoking the already unpredictable vampire.

“Water under the bridge Enzo, now let it go.” Alexander warned.

“I say we revisit it and hash it out just like old times. Huh?” Enzo rushes forward and hits Alexander square in the chest sending him flying half a dozen feet away.

Alexander’s back hits the rough bark of a nearby tree nearly cracking it in half from the pur force of his body colliding with it.

“Enzo calm down, stop throwing a tantrum.” Elias says stepping in front of the younger who was reeving to take another hit at Alexander.
“I am calm mate, calm enough to have this talk without ripping his damn head off!” Enzo yells pushing the older vampire aside.

He moves a step further but stops when he hears the door of the café slam closed. He turns and sees a very beautiful doe eyed girl standing just a few feet away.

“And who might you be love?” He asks taking a step closer.

Amelia gives him a curious once over before answering. “Amelia and you are?”

“The names Enzo!” He replies with a bow.

“Well, Enzo do you mind keeping the yelling down? There are people inside and you are disturbing them.” He smirks at her boldness, but of course she has no idea what he really is.

She also seems immune to his usual way of charming a woman. Having the ability to persuade a woman to go with him was his oldest trick, and yet this human seemed immune to his mind tricks.

“Well, you see love…a friend and I had a bit of a disagreement and we were just sorting things out.” He says stepping yet another step closer to her.

She still seemed unamused or unaffected which was starting to annoy him.

“And as I said, your yelling is disturbing our guests and from the smell of it you clearly need to head home and sleep off the booze you drowned yourself in.” She said turning to go back inside.

He reaches her and grabs her arm, preventing her from going inside. She turns slightly and looks him dead in the eye, another first for him.

“How about you stay a little longer, and we can chat. What do you say?” He says taking in a deep breath as his eyes zero in on the smell of her blood.

Amelia was usual not the kind for confrontation, but something about this guy really rubbed her the wrong way. He also reminded her a lot of the times her stepfather stumbled home drunk, and she was not about to let this stranger take advantage of her like he had. She was also running on about two hours sleep and several shots of espresso, so she was not in the best of moods.

‘This guy is really asking to be put in his place!’ Anaya growled out when the man had grabbed Amelia.

‘I am usually all for keeping things peaceful, but I am really not wanting this guy’s hands on me right now. Maybe we should show him a little of what we can do. What do you say?’ Amelia says.

‘That’s my girl! Finally, some action around here!’ Anaya was more than happy to prove to this want to be Casanova just what kind of woman he was dealing with.

“Let me go.” She says as a warning.

Enzo laughs as if he thinks she doesn’t mean what she is saying, as if she was simply playing hard to get. He couldn’t have been more wrong.

“Come on love, I am in the mood for a little private party. What do you say?” Enzo pushes once again.

Amelia opened her mouth to respond but before she could Enzo’s hand was being ripped away.

“Don’t touch her.” Alexander growled stepping in between them.

“Hey mate, now I thought we were done talking. So why are you stirring up more trouble, huh?” Enzo asks playfully.

He side steps Alexander and pulls Amelia from behind him and against his chest.

“This little beauty is mine, run off and find your won plaything.” Enzo says running a hand down Amelia’s neck.

‘I will rip his head off!’ Anaya says with a fierce growl.

‘Not yet. Just wait a minute more…’ Amelia really wanted to take the drunken idiot by surprise.

“You don’t know who your messing with Enzo, I am telling you let her go!” Alexander warns once again.

“Oh mate, I am pretty sure I just demonstrated how you are no threat to me. Now step aside.” Enzo says, moving and dragging Amelia toward the tree line.

“You should listen to him. Because he isn’t the one you need to worry about.” Amelia says, Anaya taking over her just enough for her power to seep to the surface.

Enzo laughs amused by her threat but doesn’t stop.

“Yeah? Then who should I be worried about?” He asks humoring her.

“Me.” Amelia says her skin sparking to life.

Enzo cries out and snatches his hand away and looks at her in mortification.

“What the hell was that?” He asks examining his hand which was riddled with blisters.

“A warning. Don’t ever touch me again!” Amelia says, with Anaya’s help.

Enzo looks at her again and his eyes grow wide as he takes in her changed appearance. Her eyes had changed to pure white, and with a blink the color was normal once again.

“What are you?” He stutters out.

Alexander steps forward and wraps his arm around her waist.

“Have you heard the legend of the white wolf?” He asks.

Enzo looks at him and then at Amelia.

“A white wolf? That’s impossible.” He says.

“I am much much more.” Amelia replies with a smile. “Now if the demonstrations of power are over, how about you tell me what’s going on.”

Alexander gives her a apologetic look.

“This is our back up!” He says pointing to Enzo and Elias, who had now joined them.

She looks at them and sighs. “Great.”
