Chapter 37
“Where is Owen, I need to speak to him.”
“He lives in his own house, and it’s pretty early so he wouldn’t be here. Did you look for him at home?” Liam asks Owen’s very loud fake mate.
“Yes, I check his house, that is the first place I went. He isn’t there!” Brittney growls in annoyance.
“I am sorry, but he isn’t here. He may have had to go to work early today.” Liam replies rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
“If I stayed with him, I would know where he was. I don’t know why I have to stay in the pack house if Owen and I are to be mated.” Brittney says with a huff.
“That is something you may need to discuss with Owen when he comes back. You guys did just agree to the mating yesterday, he may need a little time before he is ready to have you stay in his home.” Liam was losing his patience with this girl and fast.
“Well, if you hear from him can you tell him I need to talk to him?” Brittney asks.
“I will let him know.” Liam says with a nod and forced smile.
Brittney crosses her arms and walks away.
“I really do not like that girl. I hope Amelia and Owen get what they need soon, because I don’t know how long anyone will be able to stand that girl.” Olivia says from behind Liam.
“I hope so too.” Liam says with a sigh.
“So where is Owen?” Olivia asks walking up to Liam and wrapping her arms around his neck.
Liam smirks. “Where do you think?”
“Is that vampire still with her?” Olivia asks scrunching her nose in disgust.
“Yeah. As far as I know he hasn’t left her side since they met. I still don’t know what to think about all that.” Liam says hugging Olivia back.
“It seems unnatural. A vampire and a wolf. Has that ever even happened before?” Olivia asks.
“As far as I know, it hasn’t but I am not versed in all of wolf history. There may have been a time that it happened before the vampires had devolved. She said he isn’t like the other blood beasts we have encountered, and as far as I have seen he seems in control. I am still worried about her though. Vampires can slip into the mind set of pure predator without warning, they just need the right trigger. The ones we have caught, seem to live on pure instinct and their human side is pretty much lost. This guy seems to be holding on to his human side well enough, but we don’t know anything about him. We don’t know how little of his human side is left in there. I guess it’s the not knowing much about him that has me the most worried.” Liam admits.
“Why don’t you try talking to him?” Olivia asks.
“I guess it couldn’t hurt.” Liam says with a shrug.
“Amelia is too nice for her own good, and she won’t ask questions if she thinks that it would cause any problems between them. You are her brother, it’s normal for a brother to interrogate the boyfriend.” Olivia says with a teasing smile.
“True! It is my brotherly duty! I have to let Owen know the she wolf is looking for him anyway. I’ll go to the café and see if I can talk to the Vampire for a while.” Liam says.
“Good!” Olivia replies with a smile and a gentle peck to Liam’s lips.
Liam quickly changed and headed to the café to meet his sister and her two mates. Two mates…it was strange that his baby sister had not one mate but two. It was very unusual for humans to have more than one partner at a time, and it was even more rare as a wolf. Most wolves only had one partner their whole life, but his sister had two mates. Amelia had tried to explain the reason why, but the presence of a vampire in the same room as him, had him too on edge to fully take in her explanation. Even now all he can think of is the danger she could be in.
When he arrived at the café the sight of seeing his beautiful sister smiling and talking to a customer, made him smile as well. He hadn’t seen her smile like that in a long time. She looked truly happy, even with the life she has had, she still smiles brightly. It wasn’t long before she caught sight of him, and she quickly comes out from behind the counter and jumps in his arms for a tight hug.
“Liam! What are you doing here?” She asks happily.
“I came to find Owen, because he isn’t answering any calls. But I also wanted to see you!” Liam replies with a smile.
Amelia smiles back and steps back from him. “The boys are upstairs in the apartment! Some kind of video game competition going, I think. I couldn’t even pull them away to eat breakfast.”
Liam laughs. “I see. I’ll go see them then.”
“Yeah sure, go on up! But makes sure to say goodbye before you leave!” Liam agrees and heads toward the door leading up to Amelia’s apartment.
As he climbed the stairs, he could hear Owen and the vampire bickering over the game. They sounded almost friendly, which he found a little unsettling. He trusted Owen but hearing him so chummy with a vampire gave him pause. When he reached the door, he gave it a firm knock before opening it slowly and popping his head in.
“Liam! Hey come in!” Owen calls out shifting his quick glance to the door back to the TV. “What are you doing here?”
“Well, a very annoyed fake future Luna came knocking at my door about an hour ago asking where you were.” Liam said taking a seat in a near by chair.
Owen groaned, and Alexander took the opportunity of his distraction to kill his character which resulted in Owen yelling out in angry defeat. Liam laughed at his dramatics but when Alexander looked toward him his smile faded.
“You better get back before she sends out a search party.” Alexander says bushing Owen to his feet.
“I hate this plan.” Owen said with groaning yet again.
“It was your plan, no wonder you hate it.” Liam says with a huff.
“Hey, I didn’t hear a lot of other suggestions when the time came for them.” Owen shot back.
“Just get what you need from her and end it, then she will run home and move on.” Alexander says.
“You haven’t met this girl! She is bossy and picky and…” Owen started but trailed off with a pained sound before falling to the couch. “She is just the worst fake mate. I don’t know how long I can be in the same room with her. It only makes me think of Amelia more! I had to come here and see her just to get my wolf to calm down. He is furious that we were even pretending to be interested in that other she wolf. He was willing to kill her then and there. It took far more will power than usual to keep him roped in.”
“What exactly are you expecting her to tell you?” Liam asks.
“Amelia told me that in the vision she had, my father had been working with Alpha Cole to great a stronger pack and take on more territories. In the vision though we had not yet discovered what the reason was behind his actions. He tried to kill me and Amelia, but we fought him off and he fled taking refuge in Alpha Cole’s pack and taking his daughter as his mistress.” Owen explains.
“Why did Amelia see your father’s motives in this vision?” Liam asks.
Owen looks to Alexander for a moment before continuing.
“She died before we could discover what my father had planned.” Owen says cautiously.
Liam stilled. “What do you mean she died?”
Before Owen could answer, Amelia walked in and sighed.
“I wanted to tell you everything about what I saw Liam, but I didn’t want you to worry.” Amelia says after overhearing what they had been talking about.
“Well, we haven’t really had a chance to catch up I guess.” Liam says with a shrug.
Amelia nods and takes a seat in the couch next to Owen but close enough to Liam to reach out and take his hand.
“Don’t worry Liam, I am safe. Something happened….things have changed. Nothing is the same as it was in my vision. Alexander wasn’t there, he was sent to help protect me because the future I had seen changed. Someone changed an event, and everything has shifted. I have no idea what will happen, but I believe that the Alpha’s plans are the same or at least similar to the one I had seen. He wants something from this alliance with Alpha Cole, and he was willing to kill Owen to finish what he started. Whatever he is planning is big, big enough to need an army.” Amelia tells him.
“Alpha Cole doesn’t seem to know what the Alpha wants from this alliance other than a strong mate for his son. He seems to be surprised that the Alpha approached him about a mating arrangement at all.” Liam says with confusion.
“He seemed oddly calm at our meeting. I didn’t even sense the usual aura I get from other alphas when we were sitting near him. It was strange but I didn’t think anything of it at the time. He doesn’t seem like the kind of man my father would do business with. He is far to calm and laid-back, at least from what I could see.” Owen says with a tone of realization.
“I would go as far to say that Alpha Cole has no idea what your father really wants from him.” Liam adds.
“Unless….the one he is making the real deal with isn’t the alpha.” Alexander says.
The four share a knowing look. Whatever the alpha was planning, Alpha Cole seemed oblivious to the truth about their deal.
