Chapter 7
(Amira the Fate POV)
Since Amelia had left us, I have not felt easy and have taken to pacing the viewing room for many hours in the days since. Her future is still unclear, but I have managed to keep a close eye on her, and what has been happening is leaving me at a loss. Nothing from the future she was shown was happening, not one moment was like the future we had seen. I could not understand how one person’s life could be so unpredictable and chaotic. In my life I had never seen so much chaos around one individual, to the point where no possible future is seeable.
Thankfully one good thing has happened, she met Owen. And yet, even their meeting was strange. She seemed to have been unwell and then in some sort of trance but with no source. There was smoke along the borders of that event, making it hard for me to see all that happened. The smoke cleared as soon as Owen appeared beside her, and it concerned me that part of her life was being hidden from me. I had hoped it was an anomaly since seeing her life and future has been full of unusual events.
Now it has happened again, and I know there is something more at work here. There were not many creatures in the world that could be hidden from a fate. Only one came to mind with a reason to want to be near Amelia, blood beasts. She is strong enough to survive and encounter with them, with here powers being more than enough to protect herself one they are fully developed. Yet, it seemed the person who had enchanted her had no desire to harm her. Something more was going on, and I needed to understand it. Why would a blood beats seek her out but not kill her?
Then, I saw him. This time he wasn’t hidden. He was standing there inches away from her appearing from thin air. She seemed taken aback by him but not afraid. Then he said the words that could only mean that someone had already tampered with future, because he said he was her soulmate. Her soulmate! That was impossible! Blood beasts didn’t have soulmates, and she had a mate! Panic was the only emotion I could muster when I saw them together.
“You have seen it too haven’t you?” Elena emerged in the doorway.
I turn to look at her and I can feel the anger.
“I do not understand it either. Someone had to have known about…” Realization hit me hard when I realized the only explanation to all of this was. “No…no….why would she do this?”
I rushed toward the door in search for the others. I found Evana practicing her harp in the common room.
“Where is she? Where is Isa?” I ask her.
She looks at me with confusion. “I have not seen her.” She says in her soft voice.
“What is going on?” Elena asks following me as I search our home.
“The only one who can change someone’s future like this is…one of us. Isa had been acting strange after we saw Amelia’s future when you had come to us. She made it clear that she did not agree with us allowing someone like Amelia to have so much power, no matter the reason. We had never altered time by giving one person power like this, but after what we saw I thought she would understand the need to interfere. Because we saw war, not only between the packs but between the packs and humans. So many were slaughtered because of the arrogance of one man, and once human blood was shed there was no hiding. The wolf packs were slaughtered and hunted to the point where nearly none survived. We needed someone powerful enough who knew what it meant to be both human and wolf. Isa did not agree with our decision, but I did not listen to her and she eventually stopped protesting. I thought it was because she finally understood. But now I see, she has had a plan of her own all along.” I explain as I continue my search.
“You are saying she has connected this blood beast to Amelia? To what end?” Elena asks panic lacing each word.
“The only reason I can think of is to make Amelia a target. Blood beasts don’t have soulmates, they can not handle that kind of bond. Their instinct is to kill or turn anyone who is not like them. If they want someone for life, they turn them but there is no soul bond between them. Not like with wolves. But she has manipulated things to connect the fate thread of Amelia to this man. He is part of her future now, and I can not be sure how deep she has embedded their fates together. I need to find her and make her undo what she has done!” I rush into Isa’s room and find it empty.
“Where is she?” Elena asks glancing around.
“She is gone.” I say seeing Isa’s ring sitting on her side table.
The rings we all wore was the proof of our unity to each other and to our calling as the fates of time. She had left it behind, thus renouncing herself as a fate.
“Where would she possibly go?” Elena asks eyeing the cuff as I held it gently between my fingers.
“She has always spoken about going to earth, but we are forbidden to. She has chosen to become mortal than face the consequences of her betrayal.” I say with hushed anger.
“Can we reverse what she has done? Change something?” Elena almost begs.
“No. Isa has made parts of the timeline unseeable to us, we do not know what she has done or when it was done. There is no way to change what she has done.” I say feeling Isa’s betrayal cutting me deep within my heart.
She made sure whatever her plan was would go uninterrupted. I could not change what I could not see. Amelia was on her own now, and there was nothing more we could do for her. From this one act Isa had broken our decree and chose the life of a mortal as penance, taking the truth behind her actions with her.
“We need to warn Amelia.” Elena says turning to leave.
“It will not matter. She will ask for help that we can not give.” I reply.
“We did this. We took a girl’s life and destroyed it. We must tell her the truth!” Elena argues.
“She needs to find her own way, tell her that.” I turn away from her and tighten my grip on Isa’s cuff.
Amelia had been innocent in this, and we have cursed her life to one of chaos. This is why tampering with fate had been forbidden, we should have trusted that oath. It was my lack of faith in the balance of fate that had led us here, and now I must watch the world I had damned burn.
(Amelia POV)
I took a deep breath once I was alone again and glanced at my reflection in the mirror. Everything about me looked unchanged, but I felt mentally exhausted and confused. What was happening? Everything that was happening made no sense. Why was everything changing? Who is this guy? He said he was my soulmate, but how is that possible if Owen was my mate? A groaned and hid my face muffling the scream I let out in frustration.
“Amelia!” A new voice sounded behind me making me feel like I have jumped out of my skin.
“Ah! What the f-….Elena?” The moon goddess was standing before me now. “What are you doing here?”
“I need to warn you!” She says quickly stepping toward me and taking my hands.
“Warn me about what?” I ask.
She opens her mouth to explain but a pounding on the bathroom door interrupts her.
“Uh excuse me are you nearly done in there? There is a queue waiting out here!” A man says on the other side of the door.
“Just a minute!” I yell back and turn my attention back to Elena. “What’s happened?”
“Isa! She-she is the reason everything has changed!” She says quickly.
“What? What do you mean? Why?” I ask desperately.
“Look lady you need to hurry there are kids out her!” the man’s voice said again.
“Amelia I can’t stay, but I am so sorry. There is nothing that can be done. You are on your own.” She says with a layer of regret in her words.
“Wait! No, you can’t just leave me to fix this! I don’t know how!” I say grabbing her arm as she steps back from me.
“I’m so sorry.” She says softly before vanishing as quickly as she came.
My hand falls and I feel like the wind had been knocked out of me. My life was a mess and the only people I thought I could count on for help had abandoned me.
I was alone now.
With no clear path and no explanation good enough to ease the hurt I was feeling, I turned collapsing to my knees over the toilet and emptying the contents of my stomach inside.
