Chapter 26

(Amelia POV)

I could feel myself getting lightheaded and my brother’s voice sounded muffled and far away now. Was I going to be tuned? Was that even possible?

No!

This was not the time to worry about this! Owen needed me and I wanted to get to him soon. So, I pushed back the panic I was feeling and stepped closer to the two men struggling.

“Liam let him go, we don’t have time for this. Where is Owen?” I ask him.

He doesn’t respond right away. He is still growling low at the vampire in his grip.

“Liam!” I yelled.

His eyes turned to me stunned. I had never raised my voice to anyone in our family, so it seemed to take him by surprise. His grip loosened and he let go of Alexander. He stepped back and looked at me with worry and confusion, but we needed to deal with all this later.

“Look Liam, I have a lot to explain I know but I need to see Owen.” I say trying to stress the urgency of it.

“He is handling some pack matters; I can call him.” Liam suggests.

“No! I need to go see him now!” I say.

I was panicked not knowing where Owen was. Something inside me was telling me I needed to find him, that he is in danger.

“Why?” Liam asks.

“Because I think I know who planned all this!” I tell him in frustration.

“What do you mean?” He asks with a more serious face.

“Look, like I said we have a lot to talk about but please just tell me where my mate is!” I was done waiting.

“Liam just tell her!” Olivia says from behind him.

“He said he had to meet with his father.” Liam said with a sigh.
My heart raced. I didn’t know what the Alpha’s plan was in this timeline, but I knew that Owen wasn’t safe with him. Especially with the pack in disarray. The confusion could provide an opportunity for the Alpha that could involve hurting Owen. I needed to get to him!

“Where?” I ask Liam.

“At the pack house.” He says.

I look to Alexander and nod. He steps toward me and wraps his arm around me and just like that we had left Liam’s home and were just outside the pack house. The scene looked horrific. The pack house looked charred and fragile. Dark clouds had built up over head giving the whole area a sinister feel. Injured pack members were lying all around as others tried to help them. I had thought that the danger had passed long enough for most of these people to be in the hospital. Looking now it seems as if the fight had only just ended.

The people around us seemed to not even notice our presence, so we began walking toward the pack house. Before we were even a few feet away, Owen came storming out of the front door. I stopped and waited for him to see us, and once he did it looked as if his shoulders relaxed. A small smile appeared on his face, and then he walked toward us. As soon as he was in front of us, he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me against his chest. The action took me by surprise first, but I soon had my arms wrapped around his waist, holding him close.

“Owen, I thought that the attack had ended before we arrived.” Alexander said suddenly.

Owen lifted his head and I moved back just a little.

“Early this morning a second wave of wolves came and attacked. They were trying to finish what they had started by burning down the pack house with most of the pack inside it. I with a few who had not been injured fought them off until the retreated and we were able to put out the fire, but some were still injured. The pack hospital has not been able to send anyone to retrieve the injured yet, that’s why I was meeting with my father. To ask him to reach out to a nearby pack for help.” Owen’s anger grew once more.

“And he refused.” I said simply.

Owen looked down at me slightly confused. “Yeah, he said it will make us look weak to the other packs asking for help.”

He let out a frustrated and low growl.

“What will you do now?” I ask him.

“I don’t know what I can do. He said he was expecting an old friend in a day or two, and he would ask him for help, but he won’t arrive soon enough. We need help now!” He let out a sigh of defeat and held me close again.

‘Amelia. We can help them.’ Anaya says suddenly.

‘How?’ I ask.

‘We can help them heal’ She says.

I moved away from Owen and looked to the closest injured pack member to us, who was resting against a tree. It was a young boy, maybe sixteen. I stepped back from Owen and gave his arm a gentle squeeze before approaching the boy.

“Hi I am Amelia. Can you tell me what hurts?” I ask him as calm as I could be.

He looks to me and I could see tear streaks coming down his face. He was in a lot of pain. After looking me over for a moment, he moves his arm over to show a very intense burn on it. As wolves we can heal quickly but depending on the severity of the injury, it could take time. I looked his arm over for a moment before looking back at his eyes.

“Don’t worry, I am here to help you.” I say even though I was not even sure I could do anything yet.

‘Take his hand.’ Anaya says. ‘Hold your hand just over the injury without touching it.’

I did as she said.

‘Now we need to work together because I need you to half shift for this to work.’ She warns me.

‘Ok.’ I say to her.

‘Ok, here we go.’ She says and I take a deep breath and let her take over just enough for me to half shift.

I could feel my fangs extend and there was a slight pressure behind my eyes, I knew they were changing. Once I felt Anaya’s presence more strongly, I looked at the injury again and focused but let Anaya control my actions. I felt a warmth move down my arm and rest in the palm of my hand and then there was a pull. As if I was pulling the pain away and I winced internally.

‘What’s happening?’ I ask Anaya.

‘You are taking his pain away, so his body can focus on healing the wound. When he is in pain, he clouds his wolf with emotion, and it takes longer for his wolf to think clearly enough to properly heal. Now, his wolf can heal him quicker. But there is a side effect for you.’ She pauses as I feel an intense sting.

‘What?’ I ask clenching my jaw as the feeling travels across my arm.

‘You will feel the pain you take away.’ She says.

I felt the pain then, and it hurt like nothing I had ever felt before. I tried not show my discomfort as I moved my hand away and stood. The boy looked at his arm, and sure enough the wound quickly began to heal.

“Thank you!” He says with a weak smile.

“Your welcome.” I say.

Owen steps up and stand beside me. “Are you well enough to move now?”

The boy nods.

“Go home now ok? I am sure your mom is worried sick!” Owen says helping the boy to his feet.

I stepped behind him and the intense amount of pain took over me and I stumbled toward Alexander. He caught me just as the boy ran off and Owen turned to us.

“What happened?” Owen asks.

“I don’t know. She looks like she is in pain.” Alexander says.

I held in every sound I so badly wanted to let out as I felt the pain linger. It felt like my arm was on fire but there was nothing there. My head began to spin and before I could explain to Owen and Alexander, everything went dark.
