Chapter 42

Owen was ready for this charade to be over; he had tried to make it a little less obvious that Brittney was riding his last bit of patience, but it was getting difficult. He especially hated how she spoke to different members of the pack, which made him thankful that such a woman was not his mate. He didn’t think he could love or appreciate Amelia more, but this woman made him thank the goddess every moment of the day. When he got the text from Alexander that his friends had arrived and were waiting, he let out a sigh of relief.

“Owen are you even listening? This is the most important moment of the ceremony! Did you write your vows?” Brittney asked batting her eyelashes at him.

The action made him feel sick to his stomach, but he pushed that away and offered a forced smile.

“Yep, I got them all in here.” He said tapping his head.

“Great but I would write them down too if I were you, since most men get a little nervous on their big day!” She waltzed away, hips swaying unnaturally, and Owen groaned and rolled his eyes.

“She really does try way too hard.” Liam says standing beside Owen.

“I got a message from Alexander. He says its time and it isn’t a moment too soon!” Owen says with relief.

This was all going to be over soon!

“When will the first attack happen?” Liam asks as they walk toward Owen’s house.

“I was thinking tonight. The sooner the better! The ceremony is getting too close, and I don’t want to wait any longer. That woman is treating it like a wedding, and I am done. I wish I had given Amelia a ceremony as lavish as the one Brittney is planning, but then again she would hate it!” Owen says with a laugh.

“Yeah, my sister would never want so much attention on her. A simple introduction to the pack is all she will need and then she will want to jump right off the stage and greet every person one by one. Even though she has no training and never lived in a pack, she was born to be a Luna.” Liam says proudly.

“I am ready for her to be Luna too. So, let’s do this right!” Owens says with determination.

Once inside they immediately call Amelia and Alexander to go over which areas of the border should be attacked first. Liam was one of the men who would be standing watch and he had a plan of spiking one of the other men’s drink. That way when the man fell ill he would escort him to the infirmary and their post will be left mostly unguarded, allowing the vampires a way in.

“We will come at midnight to be sure the guards are sluggish and less alert. Their reaction times will be low.” Alexander adds. “We will knock them out and make a big commotion, just enough to alert the pack.”

“If you only knock them out how will the alphas know it’s vampires?” Owen asks.

“I can bite one or two, but I don’t trust the others to even get a taste of blood. They could easily lose control.” Alexander points out.

“And you are sure that you won’t?” Liam chimes in.

“I have done my part in proving that to you, it’s time you see it.” Alexander retorts.

“What should I do?” Amelia asks.

Her voice was soft and gentle, and Samuel immediately stood to attention at the sound of his mate.

“As far as everyone here knows, you left town. If they saw you, word would quickly spread, and the Alpha will send men to make sure you never come back.” Liam says plain and simple.

“I don’t like sitting at home waiting when there is so much, I can be doing!” Amelia said, her voice sad and frustrated.

“You have an amazing gift Mia, but we need to wait just a bit longer. When it is time for the second attack, that power in you may be the thing we need to really have Alpha Cole and his pack running.” Liam offers.

“Ok.” Amelia says with a whisper.

“You will be able to come home soon love. Just hold on a little longer!” Owen says gently.

Amelia walks away and Alexander and Owen are left alone once again to talk.

“How is she doing?” Owen asks.

“Not well. I am not sure if it’s the separation, but she has been very tired. She has been sleeping a lot and barely eating, saying her stomach is just not feeling right. I wanted her to see a doctor, but she explained that wolves can’t see human doctors.” Alexander sighed and ran a hand over his face.

Owen could see the worry, and he wished he could be there. But there was one person he could call, and she would be able to help Amelia without the pack finding out.

“I know someone who can check on her, but I don’t know how soon she can be here. Let me make a call! But if she gets really sick, I don’t care about our laws! Take her to the hospital.” Owen says firmly.

“I will.” Alexander says with a nod.

“See you soon brother.” Owen says before ending the call.

He didn’t waste another moment before dialing Natalia’s number.

“Owen?” She answers almost immediately.

“Hey Nat! I need your help.” Owen says not bothering with pleasantries.

“What is it?” Natalia asks.

“It’s Amelia, she hasn’t been feeling well. W have had to be separated for a little while…long story, but she was been weak. She can’t come to the pack doctor because no one is supposed to know she is still in town. Is there any way you can come up and see her?” Owen knew it may be a long shot, but this was his only option right now.

“Of course! I’m on my way! But Owen what is going on? Do I need to bring Alo as well?” She asks her voice careful with worry.

Owen hadn’t thought about calling in some of the people they had met in California, but they may need the extra help if their current plan ran into any issues.

“Sure, bring him, and I will explain everything when you arrive. We can meet at the café.”

“Ok! I’ll let you know as soon as we take off!” And with that everything was settled.

Enzo and Elias arrived just before midnight, thankfully sober and were revving to go.

“Remember, we are only trying to put them on alert. Use restraint and try not to seriously hurt a anyone.” Alexander reminded them.

“We promise to be on our best behavior!” Enzo says drawing an ‘X’ across his chest and holding his hand. “I swear it! But I think we will need a bit of a bust to keep our thirst at bay, right Elias?”
He looked passed Alexander and his gaze landed on Amelia.

“Just a taste for the road huh?” He asks with a smirk.

Amelia nodded without a word and rose form her seat on the couch. She held her arm out and waited. Alexander watched her carefully and she did not seem fazed one bit when the smooth-talking vampire sunk his fangs into her skin. She looked exhausted and Alexander was second guessing his choice to leave her alone. Owen said he would find someone, but it had been hours and Alexander hadn’t heard back from him.

Once Enzo had his fill, he stepped back and held Amelia’s wrist as an offering to Elias. The older vampire glanced over Amelia as if to ask permission. She didn’t move, and that seemed enough for him to take Enzo’s place and suck through the already broken skin. He only took a little before stepping back. The wound healed in seconds and Amelia turned and took her place on the couch once more.

“We won’t be long love.” Alexander said sitting beside her and giving her a gentle kiss to the cheek.

She gave him a soft smile. “Be careful”

Even with how bad she felt, she was still worried about him. He returned the smile with one of his own and a quickly kiss before Enzo interrupted and urged everyone out the door. Alexander followed the two men into the dark café and as they made their way to the front door, he noticed several people lurking outside. He brushed past Enzo and Elias to check it out. On seeing who the people were, he sighed with relief and let them inside.

“Hey look who I found.” Owen said with a teasing smile.

“Thank god! She is upstairs.” Alexander says leading the way.

Enzo and Elias remain in the café while the others were led into the apartment.

“Amelia!” Natalia said happily, rushing over and hugging her friend tightly.

“Natalia? What are you…all doing here?” Amelia asks taking in the familiar faces.

Her eyes fell on Owen and her face brightened instantly. She stood and rushed toward him and wrapped her arms around him tightly. Owen laughed hugging her just as tightly. It felt so good to hold her and smell her scent. It was a bit sweeter than usual, but he chocked it up to not breathing it in for so long.

“I asked Natalia to come and see you since Alex said you haven’t been feeling well.” Owen explains.
Amelia loosens her hold on him, and sadness overtakes her again. They had more important things to worry about than her not getting enough sleep, and she hated that Natalia had come all this way for simple insomnia.

“But now you won’t have to wait alone.” He smiled and looked at the others who had also come.

Amelia stepped back from him and greeted them politely.

“Thank you for coming all this way Cha’tima, Isa, Alo.” They each bowed their head to her.

“When the white wolf is in need, we come.” The elder says simply.

“I will join the others on the attack tonight. But I will return soon.” Alo says kissing Natalia’s head and heading toward the door with one more head bow to Amelia.

“I should go. I will come back with the others tonight to check on you, ok?” Owen says pulling Amelia close and leaving a kiss to her temple.

“Stay safe.” She replied offering him a soft smile as a goodbye.

Once the two had left she turned and looked at her three remaining visitors.

“Tell us. What are you really feeling?” Isa says straight away.

Amelia lets out a sigh. “Anaya sensed it a few days ago, but I haven’t confirmed anything yet.”

Natalia stands slowly. “You mean…”

“A pup.” Cha’tima says.

Amelia nods. “Yes.”
