Chapter 38

“Even if that girl is the one working with your father, she may not give up their plans to you easily. Especially if she doesn’t think she can trust you.” Alexander points out to Owen.

“I was hoping this would be easy, but if she is the one working with my father she is probably as tight lipped as he is. My father wouldn’t work with someone who talked too much.” Owen says with a groan.

If that girl was anything like his father, getting information from her would take way too long. They needed to find a quicker way of getting the information they need.

“If she is in the same league as your father, anything short of torture wont help.” Liam says rolling his eyes. “Although she would probably talk her enemy to death before she revealed anything.”

“Maybe who we need to get the information isn’t Owen after all.” Alexander says leaning forward.

“What? You? You think you can get her to talk?” Liam asks Alexander in disbelief.

“All wolves have a fear of Blood beasts, and even though I am not one of them, I can sure act like one. If we scare her enough, we may get what we need from her.” Alexander offers.

“You think that could work?” Amelia asks.

“It’s better than Owen trying to seduce it out of her, which no offense, he probably wouldn’t be able to pull off.” Alexander says with a laugh.

“I have to agree there. You looked almost in physical pain when she even got close to you at the meeting. You are avoiding her even now.” Liam points out.

“But I already agreed to their arrangement, I can’t go back on that now.” Owen reminds them.

They all fall into thought at the reminder that Owen was in a sense engaged to the girl, and he couldn’t just walk away. Alexander hadn’t wanted to contact anyone from his past when he met Amelia, but he knew of someone who would be more than willing to help them.

“We need to find a way to force Alpha Cole and his daughter to want to break the alliance with your father. If they find the risk too high, they may go home and take their agreement with them.” Alexander suggests.

“What are you actually offering here?” Liam asks with his clear lack of patience toward the vampire becoming even more apparent.
“What I am saying is, if they think the pack is not safe or at too much risk, they will consider the cost of the alliance too high. I have a few contacts from my past who would be willing to harass a pack for a bit of fun. Just enough to make Alpha Cole to think it would be too dangerous to stay here.” Alexander explains.

“What exactly would they do?” Amelia asks softly.

“We can plan a few attempts at trying to enter the pack, just enough to make security around the border in need of reinforcements. When that happens, we can make the attempts a little more aggressive, without anyone getting hurt of course. As the attacks increase, Alpha Cole will want to remove his men for their own safety. We can even go as far as to take the girl for a day and try and see what we can get out of her. Once she is returned, there is no way her father would agree to help a pack fighting back constant harassment from blood beasts. It would be too risky.” Alexander further explains.

“These friends of yours, they are like you? They still have a hold on their human side?” Liam asks.

“They are not as used to being around other kinds like I am, but if I tell them to attack without killing or seriously injuring anyone they will listen.” Alexander assures him.

“Owen what do you think?” Liam asks looking to his friend.

“It doesn’t seem like we have many other options, and even though I am not sure it is wise to ask volatile vampires to attack us it does sound like it may work. My father wants more men for something, but if a good number of them are injured Alpha Cole will not be willing to turn an entire army to my father’s control. My father would look weak, and a weak Alpha is not a safe investment. It may also be the push we need to force him to hand over the role of Alpha to me once the pack sees he cannot protect them well.” Owen says pacing and thinking aloud. “How long will it take for you to reach them?”

“I can give them a call now, knowing them they won’t be hard to track down. They…aren’t exactly good at hiding.” Alexander says obviously embarrassed to even mention he knows such indiscreet vampires.

“Have them meet us here as soon as they can, we need to all be there to meet them before I agree to go along with this.” Liam says firmly looking at Alexander directly.

“I get this feeling you don’t like me so much brother-in-law.” Alexander says teasingly.

Liam lets out a low growl. “We are not family.”

“I am your sister’s mate, as in life mate. So that does make us family whether you like it or not, and I am not going anywhere so growl all you want.” Alexander says standing and walking out of the apartment.

“Liam…” Amelia starts to say.

“No Mia, I don’t like that guy! He is dangerous! We also know nothing about him or these friends he is asking to help. They could be even more dangerous than him! I don’t like this.” Liam says aggressively rubbing the back of his neck which had grown hot as his anger grew.

“Look Liam, I know the guy is hard to swallow but he is right. He isn’t going anywhere, not unless Amelia is there with him. He wants to protect her as much as we do, that’s al he wants. I hated him too, but I know he would give his life if it meant helping Amelia. What more can we really ask from him? Yeah, he is a pain, to put it mildly, but right now we need his help. If anything seems off with these friends of his then we will call this off and come up with another plan. Yeah?” Owen says holding Liam in place by the shoulder.

“There is no way I am being nice to the guy.” Liam says leaning slightly to look at Amelia.

She laughed. “If Owen wasn’t your best friend, I am sure you would hate him too. You are too protective of me Liam, but you don’t have to be. I am a big girl now and even have cool powers of my own to protect myself.”

Liam scowls but agrees. “I know you can handle yourself, but you are also way too trusting. I both love and hate that about you!”

Amelia smiled and wrapped her arms around him in a hug. “You kept me safe my whole life Liam, now its time for someone else to take over. But you will always be my favorite I promise!”

Liam smiles and hugs her back until the door to the apartment suddenly opens and a stone-faced Alexander walks in.

“So?” Owen asks him.

“They will be here in two days.” Alexander says simply before walking past them and returning to the place he had been sitting.

“Then we should get back and try and act as normal as possible. We will meet you guys in a couple days.” Liam suggests.

“Sometimes I wonder who the Alpha in this friendship is.” Owen says nudging Liam.

“Since Amelia arrived your mind has been a haze, as is typical for a male wolf when they first meet their mate. It has meant that I have to keep you focused, like any good beta would.” Liam replies.

Owen laughs and walks over and wrapping his arms around Amelia and lifting her off the ground before peppering her with kisses. Liam shakes his head but can’t help but smile at the pure happy laughs that leave his sister’s mouth. He was the same when he first met Olivia, so he knew that when this time passed Owen would be his old self again. Wolves went through a honeymoon phase just like humans, the only difference was that it was far cheesier and way stronger. It was just unfortunate that all this was happening when the soon to be alpha needed to be more of clear mind. But Liam was happy to manage things as best he could, and make sure that his alpha handled his responsibilities.

He also knew the fact that Amelia was living away from Owen and they were having to go through stretches of not seeing each other only worsened the desire to be together. It was a mess to begin with, now Liam just had to make sure that this whole thing didn’t fall apart.

“I’ll see you in a couple of days.” Amelia whispers to Owen.

His smile falls and he places one last kiss to her lips before letting her go.

“Come on, time to get back to the fiancé.” Liam says wrapping an arm around Owen’s shoulder and leading him to the apartment door.

Owen dramatically whines but allows himself to be pulled away.

“See you sis! Blood beast…” Liam says over his shoulder before closing the door behind him.

“I think I am finally growing on him.” Alexander says with a proud smirk turning to Amelia.

“You are impossible, you know that! I don’t even know why I put up with you.” She says teasingly.

“I think it’s the dashing good looks, and the sexy accent…no?” Alexander asks wiggling his eyebrows at her.

She laughs and gives him a playful smack to the arm, which he returned with lunging toward her and trapping her beneath him on the couch.

“You smell too much like Owen, I think I need to fix that.” His smirk grows into a dangerous smile before he leans down and places a firm kiss to her lips, lowering himself and deepening it even more after she hums in approval.

They had a couple days alone…what to do, what to do….
