Chapter 30
(Amelia POV)
Alexander arrived 30 minutes later with all my belongings packed into two bags.
“This is all you have?” Owen asks when he sees the bags.
I give him a soft smile. “Yep! My mom bought me things I needed but never much more. Liam was actually the one who bought me the phone I have so that he could keep in contact with me. Everything else is clothes and shoes; an outfit for each day, two pairs of pajamas, one pair of flats, one pair of heels, and one pair of tennis shoes. The other items I bought in the airport on my way here.” I explained.
Owen looked at me with a look I wasn’t sure how to identify, something between sympathy and concern but I wasn’t sure which. I could feel a strong surge of emotion through our link, but I was new to this and was overwhelmed by a mix of emotions that it was hard to differentiate them.
“You two are mated now?” Alexander asks.
When he arrived, he stepped up and kissed me, and must have seen the fresh bite on my neck on the opposite side of where he had marked me. I now wore the marks of both of my mates!
“Yes. I think with what we are dealing with it needed to be done. Don’t you?” Owen asks him with a pointed look.
“I agree. Amelia will be connected to both of us, and she will be stronger with the bond between the three of us.” Alexander says.
I knew from Liam that mating between wolves helped strengthen both wolves, but I was not sure what being mated to a vampire meant. I was half vampire now, but I didn’t know what that entailed either. As I thought about it longer, I realized that I was not asking enough questions. I didn’t understand half of the things that had happened to me! I made a mental note to ask Alexander some questions about being a half vampire later, and what being mated to him meant for us.
“So, what do we do now?” Alexander asks once I had put all my clothes away in the closet in my room.
The house had three rooms, and although Owen had planned to share a room with his mate when he built the house it didn’t seem right to share it. He wasn’t my only mate, and it felt wrong to choose to shar a room with him and not Alexander. We would have to figure that out later too.
“I need to as my father about Alpha Cole, and what his plan is since I would not be accepting Alpha Cole’s daughter as my mate. I am sure he has spoken to him by now.” Owen says.
“If he is the one who planned this attack and this Alpha Cole is involved somehow, he won’t just come out and tell you.” Alexander points out.
“No, but until the fight I had with him earlier today I had never objected to anything my father asked me to do. I had always followed his advice and instruction without questioning anything. If I act as if I am still on the same page as him, he might let something slip.” Owen explains.
“We can hide the fact that we have mated, and you can tell him you plan to reject me. Maybe that will gain his trust enough to tell you what his intentions are for having you mate with Alpha Cole’s daughter.” I offer.
“That won’t work because now that we are mated, our scents are all over each other. Plus, I just moved you into the house I had built for my mate. He wouldn’t believe that.” Owen was right, if we had waited, we would have been able to get away with that option but now not so much.
Alexander stood up and walked toward me where I sat on the couch and wrapped his arm around me. He held me close, and even though I wasn’t sure why he was doing it, I hugged him back. Then he let go and looked to Owen.
“Do you smell your scent on her now?” He asks Owen.
Owen sniffs the air and even stands and draws closer and nuzzles against my neck. He sits up and gives a confused look.
“No, my scent is gone.” Owen says. “Actually, her own scent is also gone.”
“If she stays close to me before she is around the pack or your father, we can mask your scent and we can try covering her mark with make-up. Would that be enough?” Alexander asks.
“We can tell your father that you brought me here but don’t want to mark me yet. If you tell him you are not sure about mating me, maybe he will try to offer Alpha Cole’s daughter to you again. It could be enough for him to let his guard down slightly. I will try to stay hidden here as much as possible, so the pack doesn’t see me and start asking questions.” That last part makes me feel slightly guilty.
I didn’t want to avoid the pack especially as their next Luna, but we needed to be careful. If the pack thinks I am to be there Luna and Owen gives the impression he doesn’t want to mate with me, it could hurt their trust in him. I didn’t like deceiving everyone, but we really needed to know the Alpha’s plan if we planned to stop him with the least number of casualties. He had already shown he is willing to kill his own pack, and they were innocent. I did not want to risk any more innocent people dying because we got involved.
“Ok, tomorrow I will go to my father and tell him that I am not sure if I want to take you as my mate. I will also tell him that I want to have the alpha ceremony sooner, that I am ready to take over so he can be with my mother more while she heals. We are sure to get a reaction. Once I get a better idea of where his mind is at then we will know our next step.” Owen says looking to us.
“Is there anything we can do in the meantime to help?” I ask him.
We needed a plan of our own in case the Alpha took the same path as in my vision and try to kill me and Owen.
“There is a pack about a 30-minute drive from here, and one of my close friends in also the son of the Alpha. His father and my father never got along so we have never had a peace treaty with them, but if we tell him what we suspect they may be willing to help us. I can tell them you are coming, and we can try to convince them to join us against my father. Because I have a feeling, we are going to need allies of our own.” Owen says taking his phone out and typing a quick message.
“What about Alexander? Would they trust him if we explain to them, he is on our side? Because he can take us to and from here without anyone seeing us.” I add.
“I will explain the situation to them. I am sure they will understand since they are a more progressive pack. They will not hurt you because we are mated, so there should be no problem. Just try not to provoke them vamp boy.” Owen says with a smirk.
“As long as they do not provoke me pup.” Alexander says back.
“Uh, I told you not to call me that!” Owen says with a groan.
“Then don’t call me vamp boy! I am not a boy, and I am much older than you so show some respect to your elders.” Alexander replies.
I rolled my eyes as they bickered a bit more. Instead of sitting around for their back-and-forth I decided to rest for a little while. I walked up to my room and closed the doors and fell onto the bed with a sigh. I was exhausted, and my whole body felt sore.
‘You need rest. The change you have undergone took a lot out of you. Your ability to heal has been keeping most of the pain at bay but you will feel very tired. The part of you that is now vampire, was fighting against your wolf side which weakened you slightly.’ Anaya tells me.
‘How is it possible that I survived? Shouldn’t I have died?’ I ask her.
‘The fact that you are half human made it possible. A venom bite from a vampire should have killed you, but it didn’t. However, it was not an easy transition, so I think some rest is a good idea. Also, you were exposed to the full powers of the White Wolf shortly after your change. It is a lot, so rest well. There is much work to be done and you need to be at your best.’ Anaya responds.
‘Anaya there is one thing I wanted to ask.’ I say before she closes the link between us to let me rest. ‘Can I have a child now that I am half vampire? Owen and I had twins in my vision and after all this I hoped we would be able to live a normal life, but would that even be possible?’
‘I don’t know.’ She says softly. ‘That may be a dream you will have to let go of.’
It’s not that I had been dwelling on this specific topic much with everything that had been happening but being mated to Owen meant I could also hear some of his thoughts. Just after we mated, there was one thought in his mind. He wanted a family. But would I be able to give that to him?
