Chapter 33
(Owen POV)
The meeting with my father gave me only a glimpse at what he was planning, but it was not enough to see the full picture of his intensions. It was clear he wanted me to mate with Alpha Cole’s daughter, but the reasons he gave were far less interesting than I had expected. Besides the fact that the alliance with Alpha Cole’s pack having strong fighters and more trained fighters than our pack, I could not see what this alliance would do for us.
Our pack was bigger, so in numbers we could win a fight if more of our members were trained. So why would my father want an alliance to gain stronger fighters? That couldn’t be the only reason. What was Alpha Cole getting out of this arrangement? There was still so much I didn’t know, and that did not help with our own plan to move against him. The last thing he said worried me though, he wanted to keep Amelia locked away. I had heard about White Wolves in the past, and they were always linked to large wars and bloody battles. In almost all cases, they were killed. If my father was working with Alpha Cole to build an army, then having a White Wolf could make him the strongest Alpha in the state.
I had hoped to keep Amelia here with me even if we had to pretend, we would not become mates, but if my father had such plans then staying would only put her in more danger. Thankfully I knew of a vampire with an unusual ability to disappear at will. I walked as fast as I could back to the home I had built for my mate and prepared myself to tell her what had to be done.
(Amelia POV)
My morning had started out wonderful, waking up next to both my guys was like a dream. I hadn’t felt that happy and content in, well, ever! I had fallen asleep again after Owen left and when I woke again, I was in bed alone. I sat up and look around for a moment before I heard some noises coming from downstairs. I stretched my arms and neck before standing and walking toward the bedroom door to investigate. When I stepped off the last stair the smell of burnt everything hit me hard and I coughed.
“What is going on? Alexander?” I call out walking toward the kitchen with more urgency now.
Alexander was moving around the kitchen in a frenzy, moving dirty plates and pans to make room for more burnt objects and I stood in surprise just taking it all in. I couldn’t help the laugh that escaped me when he began to curse toast as it popped out of the toaster as black as everything else. He turned to me and huffed, and I walked toward him and just wrapped my arms around his waist.
“Things not going well?” I ask him.
He groans and drops his head on my shoulder in defeat.
“Where you making all this for me?” I ask him.
He nods his head but keeps it hidden on my shoulder.
“You didn’t have to do that? I should be cooking something for you!” I say threading my fingers through his hair and hugging him with my free arm.
He lifts his head then and looks at me in confusion. “Why should you be the one to cook? I want to take care of you, but I guess I will have to find another way to care for you that is far away from all of…this.”
He makes a face of disgust when he eyes the mess he made. I laugh again and take his face in my hands and pull him down so our faces are closer together.
“Thank you for the attempt, but yes I have to agree. This is sort of a disaster.” I say teasingly.
He pushes away from me with fake offence and turns away from me, I chase after him and grab him, but he turns every time I try to face him. I try and use all my charm to get him to look at me and this back and forth goes on for a couple of minutes until we hear the front door slam closed. Owen must have come back, and by the way he slammed the door, his talk with his father must have not gone well. I wait a moment to see if he will join us in the kitchen but instead I hear footsteps on the stairs.
“Maybe you should go talk to him, and I’ll clean this up.” Alexander suggests.
“Ok, and when I get back I’ll make us something ok?” He agrees and I walk out leaving the cleaning to him.
I quickly make it up the stairs and walked quietly toward the room we had shared last night. I opened the door slowly and saw Owen seated in the chair by the window with his hands over his eyes.
“Owen?” I tried to get his attention gently.
He lowered his hands but kept his head lying against the back of the chair and let his eyes fall on me. He said nothing, so I walked further into the room but tried to still give him some space. I wasn’t sure what to do in this situation since I had not really seen him like this before.
“Are you Ok?” I ask, feeling like that was a safe enough question to ask.
He shook his head and sighed. “I spoke to my father and told him that I had planned on rejecting you, and he seemed happy but then he said something that might change our plans.”
“What did he say?” I ask him, walking toward the bed and sitting.
“He wants to lock you away, so you don’t cause any trouble when I take Alpha Cole’s daughter as my mate.” Owen says with a sigh. “I don’t think it would be safe for you to stay here.”
“Oh. Well, as much as we wanted to keep the three of us together as long as possible, Alexander and I wouldn’t be able to stay long once Alpha’s Cole daughter became your prospective mate. Even though it is fake for you, it would complicate things more if I stayed. I can’t stay in this house forever, and we don’t know how long you will have to keep up the act of wanting her before we find out what we need to know. Me being here would just make things complicated. So, let’s enjoy the time we have now and when Alpha Cole arrives, Alexander and I can return to my apartment.” I suggest.
“I had hoped to keep you hidden here, but I guess that wouldn’t be fair to you. I just wanted you close, so I could be with you when I didn’t have to pretend. Maybe this plan was not very well thought out.” He laughed a little.
I admit, it wasn’t a great plan now that I thought about it. There were too many things that could go wrong, but in our hopes to get ahead of the situation we made a fool hardy attempt that was just foolish. I would have to leave if Owen was going to play his role and find out what his father has planned.
“It may not have been the best plan, but you have put the idea in your father’s head that you are willing to agree to his arrangement. Maybe there is something the Alpha’s daughter knows, and you can find out something form her. You can keep us updated and visit me at the apartment whenever you want. We can figure this out I promise!” He reaches out to me and I take his hand.
“I’m just sorry you have to go. We just got your things all put away, and we had such an amazing first night! I don’t want to wake up without you.” He says.
“I don’t want to wake up without you either, but hopefully it is just for a little while. We have at least one more day, right?” I ask him.
He nods. “Ok, so let’s enjoy today together and we will figure out the rest later. Ok?”
He sighs and stands long enough to stand in front of me and kneel in front of me and wrap his arms around my waist. His head rested against my chest and I held him tight and rest my head on his.
“We will have to find a good way to spend our last hours together.” He said before springing up and making us fall on the bed.
I squealed from surprise but that quickly turned to laughter as he nibbled at my neck.
