Chapter 4

(Amelia POV)

When I arrived back at the café, Harper came rushing toward me and wrapping me in a big hug.

“You had me so worried!” She said as she squeezed me.

“Sorry, I hope I didn’t cause you too much trouble!” I said apologetically.

“No! It is totally fine, you were sick. I cannot be upset at you for that! Besides, your sister-in-law was a big help!” She said turning around to face Olivia walking toward us.

“Hey you!” She said hugging me too.

“What are you doing here?” I whisper to her.

“Owen called and said you would need to take some time off.” She whispered back before pulling away. “Harper is it ok if I take my break?”

“Oh yeah of course!” Harper said waving us off.

Olivia followed me up the stairs to my apartment, and once the door closed, she turned to me with an expecting look.

“What?” I ask her.

“What do you mean what?! What happened?” She asked annoyed.

“I can explain.” I start.

“Yeah that would be nice. You had only been here one day, and you become deathly ill and met your mate! Your mate who just so happens to be the next alpha of our pack!” She said in her usual dramatic way.

“I know, but it’s not really a big deal.” I try to brush her off without seeming like I am avoiding the subject.

“Now Owen and you are going away on a trip to California! I mean I know some move fast when they meet their mates, I mean your brother and I didn’t exactly take things slow either…” I had to stop her.

“Oh wow! Ok please don’t share things about my brother that can potentially scar me for life.” I say interrupting her rant that was close to becoming too graphic.

“Sorry, but this is crazy! Who knew shy sweet Amelia would take off with a boy so soon after meeting him!” She teased wiggling her eyebrows at me.

“Oh my god! Olivia! It’s not like that, ok? I wanted to go, and he didn’t want to let me go alone, so he offered to come. That’s all!” I assure her.

“Ok, but if you come back married and I don’t even get a phone call I will kick your butt!” She threatens handing me a shirt from my drawer.

“I promise if we get married then I will loop you in through video chat! Ok?” I tease.

“Thank you! Maybe work on getting me niece or nephew while your away too!” She says, and I throw my jeans at her.

“Shut up! Seriously, you can be a real perv sometimes!” I yell sending her into a fit of laughter. “Besides, shouldn’t I be the one asking for a niece or nephew? You two have been together a lot longer and still no baby! I am disappointed.”

“We wanted to wait until you moved here. Liam wanted the most important other girl in his life to be here for such a big event.” She said with a smile.

The laughter and teasing were forgotten. “Are you serious? You guys waited for me?”

I could feel tears building in my eyes.

“Of course! You are so important to Liam, and he wanted to share those special moments with you! I of course agreed because our little family isn’t complete without you! You two are my only family, so I need you here to help me when we do have a little pup!” She said, and I ran and hugged her immediately.

“Are you guys crying again? I swear every single time I leave you guys alone, I come back to seeing you two with red puff eyes and running eyeliner.” Liam said closing the front door behind him.

“We do not cry every time! Besides you know how we get every time we watch the notebook!” Olivia retorted.

“Yes, too well.” Liam said giving her a soft kiss.

“Ah! Enough of that!” I yell throwing a handful of socks at them.

“I guarantee you; You and Owen will be just as bad!” Olivia teased earning a disgusted look from Liam.

“Ah! I don’t want to think of my baby sister and my best friend kissing! She is still my baby sister; I would like to keep that image alive!” Liam said with a groan.

“She is not a little girl anymore Liam! She is all grown up with a hunky soon to be alpha as her mate!” Olivia said with a whistle.

Liam and I both groaned at her. She was way too comfortable talking about such things, and I didn’t mind but in front of Liam, it was a little embarrassing.

“Ok, so what do you need help with?” He asks.

“Nothing really, I am just packing one bag, we won’t be there too long I don’t think. I don’t want to keep Owen away from the pack too long either.” I tell him.

“Wow, she sounds like a wife already!” Olive says elbowing me and again wiggling her eyebrows at me.

She did that way too much.

Again, I was talking about me and Owen like we had been together for longer than a couple of days. It was so easy to let that side slip if I wasn’t careful.

“Yeah, I would say keeping him away longer than next week would be a problem, since his father had plans to visit another pack then. Owen needs to be here to take over while he is gone.” Liam says flipping through channels on the TV.

“The alpha is going to visit another pack?” I ask.

“Yeah, he does it at least once a month. The pack he visits is one of our allies, so he goes to see them and make sure the terms of our peace contract still stands. Although the alpha has seemed a little more on edge and secretive about this trip.” Liam says.

I feel my stomach churn at his words. This had to be the pack that comes to Owen’s ceremony, where his father decides he wants him to marry the other alpha’s daughter. But those things had happened in the week after I got here in my vision, and so far, no one has mentioned Owen’s appointment ceremony yet.

“When will Owen be made alpha?” I ask.

“As far as I know, the alpha wanted to appoint him in a month or so. I don’t think he is eager to give up his seat, he doesn’t really show much faith in Owen being able to handle the job.” Liam says with an angry tone.

A month? Was anything from my vision real? Everything had changed even the smallest things.
“Oh, Owen says they are on their way! Hope you girls are nearly finished!” Liam yells.

“Alright, gosh you are right there why are you yelling?!” Oliva scolds walking out and giving his head a smack.

I grabbed the last few items I needed from my bathroom and zipped up my suitcase. I really hoped I could get things sorted in a week, because I had other problems here that I needed to be ready for too.

A knock came at my door a few minutes later, and Olivia rushed over to answer it before I could even stand.

“Well, hello Owen! It is nice to see you this fine day!” She said.

We all looked at her like she was the strangest creature we had ever seen.

“Are you drunk?” Owen asks.

Olivia made a sound that I am guessing was her way of showing she was offended.

“I am not drunk Owen! What kind of person do you think I am?” She said crossing her arms and pouting.

“I mean it wouldn’t be the first time.” Liam says not so discretely.

This time I smacked him on the back of the head.

“Ow! Owen call of your girl!” Liam screeched holding the back of his head.

Owen laughed a little awkwardly before smacking Liam himself.

“Seriously?!” He whined.

“That’s what you get for being a smart mouth baby!” Olivia said smiling proudly.

Owen turns to me now. “You all ready to go?” he asks.

“Yeah! Let’s hit it!” Oh god, did I really just say that?

He reached out for my bags and thankfully did not react to what I had said.

“Ok, see you guys! Please lock up before you leave and stay away from my bed!” I yell at my brother and Olivia.

I gave Olivia a pointed look and she returned my gaze with a pathetic attempt at innocence.

“I mean it Olivia!” I yell as she closes the door on me.

“What was that about?” Owen asks with a smile.

“Just the fact that those two have no respect for my personal space, when it comes to their very personal time together.” I say with a look of disgust.

Owen laughs. “I see! So, it is a known fact all around then.”

I stopped and looked at him.

“No way! Did they?” I ask.

“Yep! In most rooms of the pack house. It is ridiculous!” Owen says with a nod.

“Oh my…my brother is an expeditionist.” I groaned loudly and shivered in disgust.

Owen laughed loudly at my comment, which made me laugh as well. I loved his hearty laugh; it was so contagious.

“I wouldn’t go that far. As far as I know they restrict their activities for inside the home, just not strictly in their bedroom.” He replied.

“Still not in any way less gross!” I add.

“True.” He agrees.

“Oh, um I wanted to ask you something before we go.” He says stopping in front of the café window.

“Sure! What is it?” I ask.

“Well, since we will be in another state and we don’t know the area well, it would be a good idea to have a way to reach you just in case.” He babbles.

“Owen, are you trying to ask me for my number?” I ask smiling at his cute nervousness.

“I mean….yes I was. I think.” He says in defeat.

I laugh. “Let me see your phone.”

I type my number in and put ‘Mia’ as my contact name with a red heart at the end.

“There you go! So just in case something happens, you can reach me!” I laugh once more and walk away.

I looked back to see Owen looking at his phone with a big smile on his face. It was so funny seeing a guy like him soften at such a simple thing, but I loved it!
