Chapter 21
(Amelia POV)
I could feel my control over what was happening to me quickly slipping away.
‘Anaya? I can’t stop it! Help me!’ I needed help and quick.
‘I am trying but I am still weak. Listen to what they are telling you Amelia! Try and calm down.’ She says.
I can feel her pushing trying to take control of my body. I could feel the pressure of her trying to push me back and take over my mind, but it felt foreign and I couldn’t help but resist.
‘Amelia you must let me out if you want my help! I can do very little from inside your mind, you need to let me shift!’ She says.
I wanted to trust her, but the fear of not being in control of my own body was strong enough to make me hesitate.
‘How will shifting stop this?’ I ask her frantically.
‘These are the powers of The White Wolf, maybe in human form they are too strong for you to control. If you shift maybe I can stop this!’ Could it be that easy?
Now that warmth I had felt along my skin was growing painful as if it was about to burn.
‘Amelia, we need to do this now!’ Anaya yells to me.
I took one last look at Owen and Alexander and saw the fear in their eyes.
‘Do it.’ I tell her closing my eyes and letting go.
I felt like I was falling quickly, almost like how it feels when you ride a roller-coaster. The free fall and the jolt of your stomach! I just closed my eyes and let myself fall, and then suddenly I stopped falling. There was darkness all around me and I blinked to try and search for a glimpse of light. Suddenly streams of light begin to shine in front of me and my vision clears, but it looks as if I am seeing everything through someone else’s eyes.
‘Amelia? Are you alright?’ A voice booms all around me.
‘Yes, but what…what is happening?’ I ask.
‘We shifted.’ She replies.
‘We did? But I barely felt anything.’ I say.
‘It’s because you trusted me, and you did not fight the shift.’ She explains. ‘I have waited a long time for this.’
‘For what?’ I ask her nervously.
‘To be in my true form. To run free.’ She says, her voice sounding wounded and emotional.
Her emotions flood me instantly and I feel immense sadness and guilt for keeping her locked away for so long.
‘But first things first!’ I feel a rumble around me as she takes in a deep breath.
Once again, I feel little jolts of electricity all around me, but it lasts only a short moment before it is gone.
‘You did it!’ I reply happily.
‘I guess all the things those spirits were saying was complete gibberish after all.’ She says.
‘What do you mean?’ I ask her.
‘The spirits of the white wolves were saying so many things that I thought it was just gibberish but something they said stuck with me. And they were right! One is always alone but faith can make it strong.’ She says.
‘What does it mean?’ I wasn’t sure what that phrase could mean.
‘You felt alone, unsure of how to stop yourself. You were fighting your fear alone, but as soon as you showed faith in me it was enough to help me gain control. You let me help you and you believed in me, and now we are stronger for it.’ She explains.
She was right. I had always fought my battles on my own, but battles are not won by one person alone. They were won when many people come together to fight as one, trusting and believing that together they can win. Anaya was someone willing to fight and giving control to her was the leap we needed to start fighting together.
“You did well Kaiah.” The elder says stepping up to me.
Anaya bows her head in respect to the elder, and he bows in return. “You have taken the first step! The spirits of the White Wolves lives within every cell of your body. As a human it is too much energy to handle, but as a wolf you can wield that power with greater control. Anaya, you and Amelia must work together. Because while you possess the strength to wield the power, Amelia possess the pure spirit that will know when that power will be needed. Without unity between you, the power you hold will be too great and will consume you.” He warns.
Anaya nods in understanding.
The Elder then steps to the side and let’s Owen and Alexander step toward me.
“You are very beautiful Anaya.” Owen says reaching out and brushing his hand against my wolf’s fur.
A tingling sensation follows the movements of his hand making Anaya shiver suddenly. Owen laughs at that.
“Would you like to see my wolf as well?” He asks.
Anaya nudges him with her nose making him smile and step back. She and I watch as Owen kneels down and with one exhale of breath, he shifts into a large black wolf. Anaya tilts her head and looks over Owen’s wolf form for a moment. Then she does something I was not expecting. She jumps toward him and nips at him playfully. His wolf at first simply stands there and lets her circle him and nuzzle him playfully, remaining cautious at first. When Anaya finishes her playful examination of him, she stands face to face with him and waits for him to respond. His gaze matches her’s and I could feel an intense pull to him, as if this moment has only confirmed further that we are mates.
That was all he needed, because next he steps forward and nuzzles into my wolf’s neck and makes a sound that almost sounds like a purr, or a wolf equivalent of a purr. Anaya does the same, brushing her nose along Owen’s wolf’s neck gently. This goes on for a few moments before Owen’s wolf steps away and looks back at us. Then he suddenly takes off running, and Anaya does not hesitate before chasing after him.
(Alexander POV)
I stood next to Isa watching Amelia and Owen’s wolves meet and study each other. Seeing them together in wolf form, it was clear they were meant to be together. The poetry of a black wolf being mated to a wolf of pure white made it more unmistakable that they were destined mates.
“They look perfect together.” I say to Isa.
“Yes, they do.” She agrees.
“I don’t belong here. This is a whole other world that just doesn’t have room for me.” I tell her.
“You belong with Amelia! Maybe in a different way but you belong. This moment is something specials she and Owen share, but that does not mean there is no place for you in her life. You will find that place in her world the more you spend time together. Remember Amelia and her wolf are not the same. Where her wolf feels an unbreakable bond with Owen’s wolf, the girl within that wolf has a heart big enough for both of you. She cares very much for you already, but this is all new still. There is still time to find that balance between the three of you. It will not be easy overnight; it will take time and effort. So, don’t be too quick to simply step to the side, talk about it and find the place where you belong.” She says giving me a reassuring smile before turning and walking away.
I knew I would never leave Amelia but seeing her like this was making me wonder what I was doing here. What could a vampire do in a pack full of wolves? Why did I agree to this without considering the fact that I didn’t actually belong in this world? I was deep in my thoughts that I didn’t notice the white fur ball walking toward me until she was inches from me. When I felt her breath against my face, I looked up at her and gave her a smile. She watched me closely as I slowly lifted my hand to place on her head but stopped waiting for permission to touch her. My hand hovered over her fur, and with one last huff of air she steps into my touch.
She lets me pet her head for a few moments before she steps back again. She watches me once more before lowering herself to the floor and a few bone cracks later, Amelia is laying there instead. She shivers and I quickly remove my jacket and place them around her now naked body. She looks up to me with a grateful smile and reaches for my hand. She is shaky on her feet at first, so I wrap an arm around her waist to steady her.
“Thank you!” She says softly.
“No problem. You ok?” I ask her.
“Yeah.” She looks to me and places a soft kiss to my cheek. “Anaya says she likes you.”
What?
“She does?” I ask her slightly surprised.
She nods. “Yeah she says you smell nice.”
I let out a relieved laugh and hug her. “I am glad she thinks so.”
She laughs. “She also says if you hurt me, she will bite your arms off.”
Yep, that sounds about right.
