Chapter 9

(Owen POV)

Something was wrong with Amelia, and I had been sensing it since before we left the plane. She was acting skittish and a little distracted. When she had come back from the bathroom, she looked pale like she was sick, so I didn’t read too much into it. Then once we were off the plane she was glancing around as if she was looking for someone. When she suggested we split up I wanted to object but she had already walked off before I could.

That isn’t all, I could swear I felt like someone following us, but I chopped it up to me being a little nervous in a town I didn’t know well. My alpha side was in protective mode since I was traveling with my mate, and I wanted to be sure she was protected. So even a lingering look by a passerby was enough to provoke a protective stance. I rushed off to grab the bags as quick as I could because I didn’t want to be away from Amelia for too long, but when I met up with Natalia at the place we agreed, Amelia had still not arrived.

“Owen this is my mate Alo.” Natalia said introducing me to the man who was standing beside her.
The man bowed to me to which I returned with a head bow.

“It is nice to meet you Alo. Thank you for agreeing to escort us to see the elder.” I say to him politely.

I was still not sure if Natalia could eb trusted after finding out she had lied to become part of our pack. No matter her reasons, such a thing could not be taken lightly, and I was questioning her motives still.

“It is an honor to escort the White Wolf and her mate to our pack lands.” Alo says in return.

It was clear that Natalia’s pack had an intense interest in the White Wolf, and that made me a little uneasy. I did not know much about this pack and why they had so much knowledge on the subject, so I would keep my guard up until I figured out their real intensions.

“Have you seen Amelia yet?” I ask the pair, searching the surrounding area.

“Not yet, maybe she got lost. Should we search for her?” Natalia asks joining me in glancing around the area where we stood.

I saw no signs of Amelia, and I could not pick up her scent either.

“No, we will wait a little longer, if she comes here and we have left there will be more confusion. If she does not return in about 20 minutes, then we will go looking for her.” I tell them.

(Amelia POV)

I pulled away from Alexander and looked up at him. He didn’t seem so scary up close, not how I imagined his kind would be. He seemed cocky sometimes, but kind and warm. I cleared my throat and let go of him. He let go of me slowly and took a step back.

“I should go, Owen and Natalia will wonder where I am.” I say fixing my bag on my shoulder and moving to walk away.

He grabs my arm before I can leave. “Wait.”

I stop and turn to him.

“I am going to be right there with you, even if you don’t see me. I will be there.” He says brushing his thumb across my cheek.

I resist the urge to melt into his arms again. “I don’t know if you can come with me to the pack lands. Someone is going to sense your presence and the pack has a protection spell around it. It may not allow you in. You should go home.” I tell him.

He shakes his head. “No, I am not going home. I told you, I go wherever you go. I cannot explain how I move around without people seeing me, because that’s kind of a long story but I can get through their barrier. Any barrier actually.”

I raise my eyebrow at that. “I definitely will need to hear that long story later, but it is dangerous for you to be with me. If you are alone surrounded by wolves, they will kill you.”

He gave me his smug smirk again.” They would have to catch me first, and you can’t catch what you can’t see. Now let’s go before one of your friends sees me!”

Before I could respond he vanished. I growled and gritted my teeth. I hated that he was so confident that he was untouchable! I shouldn’t care if he gets hurt or not, but I do, and I hate that I do. Why was my heart not listening to my head? Why was it getting attached to someone I had just met? This is how I felt with Owen, and I shouldn’t feel it for someone else, but I was. It was so easy around him, too easy and nothing about him scared me. Not even the fact that he survived on blood drinking. How often did he need to feed? Who does he feed on? Does he kill them? How many people has he killed?

These were the kinds of things I should be worried about, but I could only worry about someone not finding him and killing him on the spot. Like I didn’t have enough to worry about, and now I had a cocky vampire soulmate attached to me wherever I go! I let out a deep annoyed sigh before turning and walking toward a food stand that was not far away.

When I had our food in hand, I walked to the spot where we agreed to meet. When my eyes fell on to Owen I smiled unconsciously. He was so handsome, and he was my mate! It made me strangely proud. I walked up to my small group and greeted them by holding the bag of food out.

“Who’s hungry?” I ask with a smile.

“Oh, finally I am starved!” Natalia says taking the bag from me and examining what is inside.

Alo smiled at her and pulled her close kissing her temple. They really looked cute together, I wondered if and when Owen and I would be that close. I took some time for me to grow that comfortable with him in my vision and I didn’t want it to be like that again. I wanted to be as open as I could with him and accept his advances when he offered them to me. Even though in this timeline we had only just met, he seemed different. He wasn’t trying as hard to build that bond between us, and maybe it was my own doing. After only a few days of knowing each other we had to come here. I guess that didn’t leave much time for us to spend together and now I had this vampire tag along that was making me a bit self-conscious about trying to get closer to Owen.

Once Natalia and Alo sat to eat, Owen pulled me aside. “Hey, you ok? Took you a little long to come find us.”

I swallow a bit more loudly than I would like, which probably didn’t make me look less suspicious. So, I tried to play it off that I was feeling guilty by smiling as sweetly as I could.

“Sorry, I wasn’t really sure what to get. There was so many choices, I get a little overwhelmed sometimes when I have too many choices.” I admit, because that part was true.

He laughs a little. “That’s cute. I am glad that you are ok, after how you looked on the plane, I was just worried.”

I smile up at him. “I’m fine now, thanks for worrying about me.”

He smiles back and leans down, so our faces are closer together, and stops for a moment. After a brief pause, he turns his head slightly and kisses me softly on the cheek. I felt the familiar tingling that came from my interactions form him and couldn’t fight the blush that bloomed on my cheeks.

I turned from him so he could not see my blushing, but he turned my head to face him.

“You never have to be shy with me.” He says.

He let’s go of my face and intertwines our hands instead. Making my heart flutter like crazy.
