At The Door Was Piper

It's been three months since Katherine started working at Olsen Group of Company.

Mr Olsen was going through some documents which needs signing when Katberine entered the office with another set of files. "Good day sir," Katherine bowed. "Hn," Mr Olsen nodded. "Here are the files from Clane Limited," Katherine said. "Oh. About that, you will be going on a tour at the company next tomorrow," Mr Olsen said. "Sir?" Katherine's eyes popped. "Are you trying to question my decision?" Mr Olsen stopped what he was doing and looked at Katherine coldly. "No sir. I'm sorry sir," Katherine bowed. "Better. You can get out," Mr Olsen said authoritatively. Katherine bowed and left the office.

Katherine grumbled as she went to her office. She couldn't think of herself going to Clane Limited. "Seems our Kat has been given another task," Grace said. "Why can't he forgive? Ah! It's almost four months now," Katherine grunts. "It's not easy to earn the forgiveness of these billionaires especially the not-so-beautiful ones," Ariana said laughing. "Not-so-beautiful? That's ugly," Katherine said. "The presence of beautiful will make it more lenient," Ariana said. Katherine smiled. This is why she loves her colleagues; they surely have a way of making her smile.

Mr Olsen answered his phone which was ringing non-stop. "Hello," a soft voice said at the other end. "Who is speaking with me?" he asked with his bossy tone. "This is Piper," the soft voice responded. Mr Olsen's demeanour changed from cold to an expressionless look. "I can't remember knowing any Piper," Mr Olsen said. "Dee," Piper called softly. Mr Olsen glared at the empty space in his office.

Memories which he had long ago buried began to resurface. It's been eleven years since he last heard this voice. The voice of the lady he had once loved dearly. "Dee, are you there?" Piper's voice jolted him out of his trance. "Call me Mr Olsen," Mr Olsen said coldly. Piper sighed. "I'm around. Can we meet?" Piper enquired. "Why should we meet?" Mr Olsen thundered. "I miss you," Piper's voice failed her as she ended up crying. Mr Olsen chuckled, "Miss me? Or you want to see the effect of what you did again?" he said. "Dee....," Piper was cut off. Mr Olsen ended the call.

He stared at nothing in particular as he clenched his fist tightly such that his veins were popping. He tried to close the door to the memories Piper's call opened but failed as they kept surfacing. He tried to bury himself in work but it also wasn't helping matters.

Katherine's desk phone rang. "Sir," she said immediately she picked the call. "In my office now," Mr Olsen ordered. "Ok sir," Katherine responded. She grumpled as she made her way out of the office. "Sorry Kat. I've learnt a lesson through you," Grace said. Katherine entered the office and bowed. "Check these files and tell me if their proposals are ok," Mr Olsen said. "I've done that, sir. As usual, the ones with high profit maximasation has red tape, the ones with average profit maximisation. has green tape and the least has black tape," Katherine explained. "Hmm. Just open the higher profit files and let me sign them. Discard the others," Mr Olsen said. Katherine did as instructed.

After he was done signing the files, Mr Olsen left the office. Katherine heaved a sigh of relief. "Clear the table before leaving," Mr Olsen had said on his way out. "Ok sir," Katherine responded. As soon as Mr Olsen was out of the company, Katherine slumped on the couch in his office and slept off.

Mr Olsen drove to his mansion. He went directly to his little bar and unpoped a bottle of alcoholic wine. He drank directly from the bottle as he tried to forget those hurtful memories. He had almost finished the fifth bottle of wine when he heard the doorbell ring. He opened the door. At the door was Piper.

Jake used another number to call Sophia. He had been unable to reach her ever since they both visited his parents and had that sex. Sophia picked the call. "Hi," Jake said. Hearing the voice she has been running away from yet longing, Sophia froze on her seat with the phone on her ears. "Please don't end the call," Jake pleaded. Sophia swallowed. "How have you been?" Sophia finally talked. "I've been good and you?" Jake responded. "Fine," simply came Sophia's response. "Can we meet? We need to sort out this issue," Jake questioned. "Issue? We don't have any issue," Sophia said.

Jake sighed. He knew she was stubborn, well has always been. "Oh? Yeah, we have no issue. Urm, Jessie wants to meet you. She said she missed you," Jake said. "That is so sweet of her. I will call her," Sophia said smiling but suddenly stopped smiling as if she realised something. And yes, she realised something. If Jessie missed her as Jake acclaimed, she would have called her directly and besides, they spoke sometimes last week. "Where should we meet?" Sophia inquired. Jake was stunned by her question. "Meet?" he questioned to be sure he heard the right word. "Yes. Where?" Sophia responded. "I will be waiting outside your workplace," Jake replied.

After the day's work, Sophia signed out and left before Miranda or Drey could question her. The two - Miranda and Drey - fits perfectly for a couple. They are both nosy! "I think Sophia finally got a boyfriend," Miranda said. "Why would she get a boyfriend outside this office when I, the most handsome man is here?" Drey responded. "Tch," Miranda scoffed and laughed, "When animals with horns are summoned, your snail is not expected," she said. Drey felt like his ego was trampled upon. "That is unfair. You should have at least let me feel happy a little more time," Drey sulked. "The truth, they say, is bitter and that is exactly what you feel," Miranda picked her bag and went to sign out too.

When Sophia got downstairs, she sighted Jake's car and Jake leaning on the car. She waved at him as she walked towards him. Jake smiled warmly. "What's up, nigga?" Sophia greeted lively. "I'm cool, babe. Seems you've grown fatter," Jake replied lively as well. He has to go with whatever flow Sophia brings. "Hey! Don't say that to your big aunt. Look at you too. When was the last time you got a rest-filled sleep?" Sophia responded.

"Since you stopped answering my calls," Jake said in his mind but smiled outward. "Work load has been overbearing," Jake answered. Sophia knew he wasn't been honest because Jake is one to balance work and sleep. "Eheheh..... Look at him talking like a hardworking person. Let's get going already," Sophia said and entered the car. Jake smiled. He has missed this Sophia.

Jake drove through the city before stopping not far away from a street food vendor. "Care for some dumplings?" Jake asked. "I never knew you do street food too," Sophia said alighting from the car. Jake followed suite. "I miss this Sophia," Jake smiled and held Sophia's hand as they walked closer to the vendor.

"Good evening young couple," the man greeted with a smile. Jake and Sophia shared glamces before turning to face man. "Two dumplings for me; four dumplings for her," Jake said bowing in respect to the man's greetings. "I see she likes food a lot. My wife was like that too when she was young. She could eat a whole house yet she is never fat. I was always left to wonder what the food does in her body but when we began to have babies, she produced strong babies. I smiled then realising the food were to make my children strong. So, don't get too worried if she eats a lot without getting fat, it is all stored up for your babies," the old man went on rambling about his wife while preparing the dumplings. Sophia froze at the mention of your babies. She was confused. Was it her babies or the plural your with Jake? "Thanks for enlightening me papa. I've always wondered why she isn't fat too," Jake said. "You see, women are very difficult to learn. How can one eat a mountain without getting fat?" the man enquired gestuculating how big the mountain is. Jake giggled. "This angel can eat the world without getting fat," Jake said pointing at Sophia. Sophia poked him by the waist. He laughed. "That's brutal," Jake groaned. Sophia smiled victoriously.

"Here are your dumplings," the man handed the dumplings to the duo, "And this is for true love," he gave them a specially made dumplings. "Thank you papa," Sophia smiled and kissed the man's knuckles. Jake frowned at this gesture. The man noticed him so he teased him, "Are you afraid an old man will take away your bride with dumpings?"
