Was Someone Here?

"Guys," Henry stood at the front of the office. The others paid attention to him. "An information just got to me that Mr David will be transferred to another company," Henry said. "I'm happy for him though we are gonna miss him," it was Miranda talking. "So, I thought we can do a little send-off party for him," Henry said. "Sure. At least, that will enable him to know we really enjoy his time in service here," Drey said. "Yeah. The females will be the organisers. They will be in charge of the snacks. Drey and Harry will decorate his office," Henry said, "William and I will look for a way to keep him out of the office while the preparation is going on," he added. "Alright. We should start preparation already," Sophia said.

Piper stared in awe. She didn't even realise she was crying until she felt a drop of tear on her hand. She ran out of the office in tears blaming herself. Katherine used her hand to push Mr Olsen by his face. She wiped her mouth with the back of her palm continuously as she stared at her boss. "Get yourself together and get out of my office," Mr Olsen thundered. Katherine was shaken from his outburst. She scrambled out of the office. She sat quietly when she got to her office. "What is wrong?" Grace asked. Katherine nodded negatively. "No. Something is definitely wrong. The usual Katherine would have grumblee as soon as she gets in," Grace said. "Nothing is wrong with me. I'm fine," Katherine insisted. "Let her be for now. Whatever that might happen must have been shocking," Ariana quoth, " Maybe her ex-boyfriend is the boss's younger brother," she joked.

Mr Olsen kept hitting his head on the table. He was blaming himself for being irrational. He allowed his emotions to cloud his thinking. For the first time in eleven years, he didn't know what to do. He wasn't even sure if he can face Katherine again. His ego and pride all crumbled. He felt lost. "Make a thorough investigation on Katherine Adolf. I will send her picture," Mr Olsen said to the person he had called. He sent the picture and left the office.

After the day's work, Sophia and Katherine left the company together. Sophia noticed Katherine's constant spacing out on their way home but decided not to bring it up until they got home. Sophia prepared dinner and set the table. Katherine who had gone inside to freshen up came to the sitting room. "Kat, what is the matter?" Sophia enquired sitting beside her. "I noticed you have been unusually quiet. Did something happen at work?" she probed. "I'm fine, Sophy. I'm just bothered about what tomorrow will bring. You know, I'm going to see Ren again," Katherine said.

Sophia who know Katherine so well knew she wasn't saying the truth but decided not to probe her further. She will open up when she needs someone to pour her heart to, she thought. "Don't worry. You will be fine. Remember not to mix business and emotions. Deal with each separately at different time. Moreover, this is your opportunity to let Ren know you are doing very good without him. Rise your chin and talk to him like the head of Secretary you are. Fight, baby girl," Sophia said clasping Katherine's arms in her hand to raised her morale. "I hope I will be able to," Katherine silently said. "Hope? No girl, you will do," Sophia responded. Katherine just nodded. "To the dining. You need enough strength to be able to stand up to him tomorrow," Sophia pulled Katherine up.

Katherine stayed awake even after she had said her good nights to Sophia. She was bothered. There was something off about Mr Olsen's skin. His skin texture was different. She couldn't pinpoint how it felt but she knew it was different. She made up her mind to find out what made his skin different. "Or am I the one overthinking?" she thought. She later fell asleep around two in the midnight.

The following day, Katherine dressed up at her best. She was determined to make Ren bow at her call and beck. "Wow! Was Katherine kidnapped overnight and a gorgeous business woman was placed next to me?" Sophia looked at Katherine over and over as she praised her. "Maybe yes. Maybe no but this lady is bound to make some bow," Katherine replied. "Sure. Keep your chin high, baby. Are you going to Clane from home or you will stop at the company first?" Sophia enquired. "The plan was to go to Clane Limited from home but an email came in this morning stating that I should report to the office first," Katherine replied. "Ok. Let me get ready so that we can leave together," Sophia said. "That can't be because I'm leaving now," Katherine said. " Okay. See you at the office or after work," Sophia went to the bathroom.

Katherine got to the office. It was empty. She accessed Mr Olsen's office with her fingerprint. She packed files regarding Clane Limited and sorted them. She sat expecting Mr Olsen to show up but waited tirelessly. When she became tired of waiting, she called Mr Olsen's mansion from his office phone. "I will be there in some minutes," Mr Olsen had said. While sitting doing nothing, Katherine felt pressed. She stood at the centre of the office. "Which of these doors is the toilet?" she questioned no one in particular. She opened the one her instinct told her to. On opening the door, she was met with Jake who was dressing up. He was buttoning his shirt.

Mr Olsen was startled when Katherine's call came in. He was nervous. He didn't know how to face her after what happened the previous day. "Calm down. You are her boss. Why are you getting nervous?" Mr Olsen wondered trying to calm himself. He doesn't want to admit it but kissing Katherine felt different. It sent a feeling he couldn't express.

He got up and arranged his clothes and briefcase. He stepped out and stepped into his car before driving off.

On his way to the office, he stopped at a Breakfast-Go Resturant. He purchased breakfast for himself and Katherine. "We will just talk things out and count yesterday as an error of irrationality," he thought. He plugged in his earplugs which was playing 'Drink Before War'.

"Hi. Good morning, Kat," Jake waved smiling at the shocked Katherine. Katherine was too surprise to think as a rational person. "Does Jake sleep in this office? How is he related to Mr Olsen? Did he break into this office? No, he can't break in and still be greeting me calmly," Katherine thought. "Are you too dazed or fazed to respond to my greetings?" Jake asked. Katherine recovered from her astonishment. "What are you doing here?" was the first sentence Katherine made. "I slept here," Jake simply replied as though sleeping in other people's office is a normal thing. "Why?" Katherine asked.

"From here to the airport is faster than from my house and I've an early flight to catch," Jake responded. Katherine looked questioning at him. "You can take your private airplane? How come you were able to enter? I locked the door myself yesterday," Katherine folded her arms. "I don't like traveling alone. I only use my private plane when it is an emergency. I have a spare key to this office. I think that answered your questions," Jake said. "How? How did you get a spare key? Are you Mr Olsen's brother?" Katherine enquired. "You never ceased to amaze me with your cleverness," Jake smiled. "Answer me," Katherine said. "Yes, we are brothers but from different parents," Jake replied. Katherine raised a questioning eyebrow. "Ohhh? I'm his best friend," Jake said. "What?!" Katherine exclaimed. "We'll talk later. I've a flight to catch and I also don't want Dylan to meet me here. He didn't know I spent the night here," Jake said and left the office.

Ten minutes after Jake had left, Mr Olsen arrived at the office with two packs of Breakfast- Go. "Good morning sir," Katherine greeted with her head bowed. "Morning," Mr Olsen responded and gave Katherine a pack of the Breakfast-Go. "Thanks sir," Katherine smiled. Mr Olsen was hit by Jake's perfume scent. "Was someone here? A guy?" Mr Olsen questioned.
