SEVENTEEN
"It's Tuesday". Alexander was saying to Jaxon as they stepped out of his office.
Jaxon shrugged.
"It's not like I'll get fired if i dont turn in early for work tomorrow". He said smugly.
Yalda's gaze flickered to both men as they began walking towards her desk. It was almost awkward just sitting there waiting for them to get to her. What was even more awkward was being intrigued by two tall and immensely captivating men; men who were built like Greek gods.
Alexander rolled his eyes subtly.
"As if it's you I care about". He said as he shook his head.
She wasn't sure what they were talking about but she liked how freely they bantered. It made her want to see them back in college together.
Jaxon snickered. He looked like he reconsidered what he had been about to say because they had gotten to her desk. He offered her his warm smile as he stared down at her face deeply; as though he sought to familiarize himself with every feature on it.
"Ms. Harris". He said at last.
She smiled politely.
"Mr. Cole". She replied and he smirked once more but didn't comment on it.
"I want to be able to reach you without having to come here". He said as he slid his phone across her desk. "Your number please, if you don't mind".
Her gaze flickered to Alexander's briefly and she found he wasn't even watching or listening to what was being said, he was busily tapping on his phone. Or at least it had seemed that way. And besides, she couldn't turn Jaxon down even if Alexander had been watching, what would have been her excuse? It was the 21st century and she was a grown woman; it was normal to exchange numbers with men every now and then. How was she supposed to broaden her network if she didn't?
She picked up his phone and typed in her number quickly before sliding it back to him. He smiled appreciatively.
"I'll call you". He said as he retrieved his phone.
She nodded simply.
"Do enjoy the rest of your day, Yalda". He said. "Looking forward to seeing you again".
She nodded once more.
"Thank you". She said. "And likewise".
It was his turn to nod.
"Ander, shall we?". He said to get Alexander 's attention.
Alexander nodded once before prying his gaze from his screen. His gaze flickered to Yalda's briefly and she averted her gaze from his uncomfortably, she didn't want to look into his eyes and see him judging her. Why would he even judge her? She was sure he exchanged numbers with ladies on a daily basis.
"We shall". He replied simply before walking ahead.
"See you around, Yalda". Jaxon said.
And then he was gone too.
…….
As always, not much had been said between Yalda and Alexander; the drive back to the penthouse had been quiet. Yalda had hoped they could talk a bit during dinner, but to her dismay, he had told her he didn’t intend to have dinner anytime soon.
“Aren’t you hungry?”. She asked him as he began making his way to his room.
He turned around to face her.
“No. Why are you insisting on feeding me dinner, Ms. Harris?”. He asked with a lazy smirk. ”You don’t intend to drug me, do you?”.
She shook her head immediately. She knew he was joking but she was in no mood to joke at the moment; the tension between them was getting rather much.
“No. I just want to talk”. She replied quietly.
He rolled his eyes subtly.
“It’s been a long day and I’m exhausted”. He said. “Aren’t you exhausted?”.
She shook her head once more.
“I truly don’t mean to bother you. I just noticed you’ve been a bit……stressed”. She explained.
His smirk faded immediately and his eyes darkened ever so slightly confirming that he had indeed been stressed out.
“Yes”. He said. “And I can’t deal with your drama right now, Yalda”.
“Can we just talk?”. She asked him. “Please”.
He combed his fingers through his hair almost exasperatedly before blowing out a heavy breath. He shook his head.
“I’m going to take a shower”. He told her. “I’d suggest you order your dinner and go to bed”.
In short, he wanted her to leave her to his thing; he wanted to be left alone.
“Can you do that for me, Yalda?”. He asked her.
She wasn’t quite sure she could. She shook her head and his eyes darkened even more.
“You seem upset”. She said. “If I didn’t know better I’d think you were upset with me”.
He didn’t bother responding; he turned around and walked away leaving her standing there. Her throat clenched painfully as she watched him leave. That tiny voice inside her head screamed at her to simply let him be, but she wasn’t quite sure she would be doing that today. She let out a heavy and shuddering breath to calm herself, and she waited for a few minutes before she went after him knowing he would be in the shower already.
Her hands trembled with uncertainty as she undid the buttons of her shirt. She had the time to rethink and reconsider what she was about to do but she chose not to. She stripped herself of her clothes before making her to the bathroom to join him. She opened the door quietly and was enveloped in the foggy space as she stepped in.
For a moment, nothing was said as she stood there staring at him while he glared at her with those cold eyes of his. She watched the water cascade down his body; they caressed his tight muscles sensually, alluringly, intriguingly. Her fingers craved the feel of his skin, his abs, his shoulders, his biceps, of him.
“You never listen, do you?”. He asked her. The deepness of his voice told her that he had also been checking her out.
She shook her head.
“I do listen, but I just don’t want to listen today”. She replied.
“Come here”. He ordered.
Her legs began moving even before she could think it through; she walked over to him and joined in the confined space, and it was probably a mistake. She gasped as he grabbed her and pushed her against the warm tiled wall so her cheek was pressed against it.
“You know, I find it funny that you think you can do whatever you please when I’m involved”. He spoke darkly.
Her body shuddered as a chill ran down her spine regardless of the warm water that was showering down on her.
