FIFTY-THREE

Yalda's mood wasn't better even after getting to the penthouse and taking a shower. She had changed into comfortable clothes and had settled down in her room after feeding Loki.

Staring down at the busy city below while sitting on the window sill, she couldn't help but think back to times before all this; times before Defne, times before Alexander.

Those times had been easy, they had been alright. Her parents may not have been the richest but they ensured she had everything she needed, they ensured she was happy. But all of a sudden it had come to an end and her life became a whirlwind of chaotic events.

She missed those times, she missed her parents, and at times she wished she could just leave everything and run to them. At times she wished she had a family, Defne was supposed to be her family but the woman had been nothing but a thorn in her throat, and if she hadn't hated her before today, she most definitely hated her now.

After sitting here for almost two hours, one would expect her to be calmer, to feel lighter, but here she was feeling like she would explode.

She was filled with so much hate, anger, and hurt, and she didn't know what to do with those feelings; they were too much and they weighed heavily on her chest, they ached her till tears stung her eyes.

Her gaze flickered to the door on hearing a quiet knock on the door; Alexander was back. She blinked a couple of times to clear her eyes before dragging in a deep breath to calm herself.

"Come in." She called out loud enough for him to hear her.

And she watched as the door opened to make way for Alexander to come in, she realized that he had changed into a casual outfit; he hadn't just returned. His gaze founds hers at once and it raked over her quickly before once again settling on her eyes.

"Did you have dinner yet?" He asked her.

Dinner? She hadn't even thought about dinner, it had been the least of her concerns.

She shook her head.

"I'm about to order dinner." He told her.

"I'm not hungry." She replied. "Thank you."

"You haven't eating in eight hours." He pointed out. "I won't have you starving yourself on my watch."

She truly didn't have the energy to deal with this, she didn't have the energy to deal with anything at all. She shook her head exhausted as she combed her fingers through her hair.

"I'm a grown woman, you don't think I can decide when I wish to eat or not?" She asked him.

Tears she thought she had warded off went streaking down her cheeks as she blinked, she wiped them off quickly as she sniffled quietly. She was so tired of crying, so very tired, and to think that she had never been the type to cry much in the past.

"Just leave please." She added quietly as she lowered her gaze to her feet.

The silence that lasted between them was hardly a handful of seconds before Alexander spoke.

"They're your family, and that's why I'm asking you first" He said, and her gaze returned to his. "They can be charged for harassment; I only need to give an order and their lives would be a living hell."

Her eyes widened slightly as she understood what he was saying. She shook her head immediately, she didn't even want to ask how he knew about what happened, all she knew was that she didn't want him doing anything to Defne and her pathetic children. Yes, she hated them all, but she didn't want to hurt them or see them suffer, she merely wanted them to leave her alone forever.

"They won't bother me anymore." She told him though she wasn't sure at all.

"Is that what you think?". He asked her.

She nodded. She couldn't believe she was actually covering up for them.

"Plus, it was nothing serious." She added quietly.

He made his way over to where she was and the fragrance of his cologne snaked its way into her nostrils, it calmed her significantly.

"She hit you." He said. And though he sounded calm, the darkness in his eyes was almost petrifying. "That is serious."

She averted her gaze from his as more tears left her eyes. She had tried her best to hold them back but just couldn't, the fact that he had reminded her of how Defne had hit her caused them to fall

"I'm trying to forget about it, please let it be." She said quietly.

He reached out, his fingers slid underneath her chin and he guided her head back to face him. He stared deeply into her teary eyes and she felt almost completely exposed.

"You're not a teenager anymore, Yalda". He reminded her. "And neither are you a broke college kid in need of their help or support."

She blinked and more tears left her eyes.

"You do not need them, and you do not owe them anything. Do you understand?" He asked her.

She nodded, it was all she could do.

"Now, they will apologize to you; I will make them. They can chooe to be stubborn, I'll be more than glad to have them measure their pride against my wrath."

Staring up at him, she couldn't understand how it was that someone who looked so good and human could be so cold and ruthless. But she'd be damned if she didn't fall harder for him with every passing second.

"And you are not to try to talk me out of it." He told her. "I will hear absolutely nothing of it."

She nodded once more.

He gently wiped the tears from her cheek before fixing her disheveled hair. And she couldn't pry her gaze from his as he dragged the pad of his thump down her lips slowly, sensually.

A shuddering breath left her lips and her heartbeat slowed as her body responded to his touch immediately. She wished it was his lips that was against hers, or another part of him. She snapped out of her lewd thoughts when he spoke again.

"Let's eat out instead, you look like you could do with some air." He said. His gaze raked over her once more and he took in her outfit which consisted of a tank top and a pair of shorts. "It's a bit cold outside, dress warmly."

And with that, he turned around and made his way out.
