FIFTY
Yalda had eventually slept off after staying awake for an hour or more, and when the woke up, she realized it was bright already. Her eyes widened as she realized that Alexander could have left for the office already. She pushed the covers off her body and climbed out of bed quickly, she hurried to the bathroom and tended to her business before hurrying back to check her phone.
There weren’t any messages from Alexander so she assumed he hadn’t left yet; he wouldn’t leave without telling her or leaving her a message. Alexander’s message may not have been there, but another was, and she tapped on it to display the text.
‘Hello Ms. Harris,
I couldn’t help but notice that you were a bit unwell at the soiree. I hope you’re better now.
_Ryan Blackwood’
She almost rolled her eyes at the message. What was it with Ryan Blackwood anyway? Why did he keep trying to talk to her? She typed in a quick reply:
‘I’m better now. Thank you.’
Hitting the send button, she set her phone down and headed out of the room. The fact that Loki wasn’t here with her told her that he was somewhere around the house with Alexander, she went for his study first, and as expected, Alexander was at his desk, he was dressed for work already. He was a call and didn’t notice her arrival, but Loki did, and he ran up to her excitedly.
Was he always excited?
She crouched down to rub the back of his ear, and though she hadn’t intended to listen to Alexander’s conversation, she heard him say:
“You just wanted to fuck her, Jax. Don’t act like it was anything other than that.”
Jaxon? He was on the phone with Jaxon? Were they talking about her? She rolled her eyes at her own thoughts; they were obviously talking about her. So, Jax had indeed just wanted to fuck her? Somehow, she had thought there had been something else, she had even felt guilty about how things had ended.
“It’s not the same; my relationship with her is complicated.” Alexander said.
It was indeed complicated, but in the end, he also just wanted to fuck her, in the end, it was the same. Loki whined quietly on realizing that she was distracted, she hushed him by rubbing the back of his ears once more.
“Neither of us owe you an apology, Jax. Rather, you should apologize to Yalda; she was unwell and you inconsiderately tried to force yourself on her. I mean, the actual fuck, man?”
She didn’t want Jaxon’s apology, and neither did she was to listen to any more of this. She straightened up and it was only then that Alexander saw her. His gaze raked over her like always
“Let’s talk some other time.” He said before ending the call and setting his phone down. “You’re finally awake.”
She nodded.
“Good morning.” She greeted quietly.
“Good morning, Yalda.” He replied. “How are you feeling today?”
He asked so smoothly, as though he hadn’t also been through some shit.
"I'm alright." She replied. "How are you feeling today?"
He obviously knew why she was asking, he knew what she meant and he merely nodded.
"I thought you would have left by now." She told him.
"I had some calls to make, I'll be leaving soon though." He replied as he pushed his seat back and stood up.
Of course, he had even delayed going to the office to talk to Jaxon. She didn't want to think about Jaxon, didn't want to think of how it all came down to shit.
"Can I come along? I'm fine now." She asked him. "Just give me a few minutes to shower and get dressed."
He glanced at his watch before shaking his head.
"I have a meeting soon. Plus, I want you to get some more rest." He replied.
"But I'm alright now." She told him.
"Yalda, you're recovering; you will be alright." He told her. "In the meantime, I want you to get as much rest as you need, and I want you to resume work only when you're completely healthy."
She shook her head. Staying at home doing nothing had never been her thing, she couldn't stand it.
"What am I supposed to do in your absence?" She asked him.
His brow arched slightly.
"Do whatever you want." He replied as though the answer had been rather obvious.
"I don't want to do anything, I hate staying home when I should be working." She told him.
"Then go shopping or something." He suggested.
She shook her head once more.
"Please let me come with you". She said. That was all she wanted to do. "I promise I'll come right back if I don't feel alright."
Her eyes begged him as they stared deeply into his. A moment of silence stretched between them before he glanced at his watch once more.
"Thirty minutes." He said. "You have thirty minutes, Ms. Harris."
"Could you make it forty?" She asked him quietly.
His brow arched once more but he said nothing, simply waited for her to elaborate.
"I need to feed Loki and make sure he's alright." She explained.
He blew out a breath as he settled back in his seat almost exasperatedly.
"I already fed him." He told her. "You have thirty minutes."
Her eyes lit up at once and she gladly turned around and hurried out of his study. She tended to her business quickly and exactly twenty-eight minutes later, she was dressed and ready for work.
Alexander was already waiting for her in the living room when she returned. His gaze snapped to hers on hearing the sound of her heels against the tired floor, he glanced at his watch briefly before his gaze returned to hers.
"I'm right on time." She told him before he spoke. "I'm a bit early actually."
He rolled his eyes subtly but nodded nonetheless.
"Let's go". He said. "I left Loki all he'll need till we get back."
It probably wasn't a big deal but she felt her heart fill with warmth.
"Thank you". She said.
He merely shook his head before gesturing for her to come along.
