Chapter 47
Heather's POV:
"But they gave me a home, and if it weren't for my foster parents, I'd probably be dead on the beach." I said hesitantly.
Aemon turned his head to me and said gently, "Then let's go see what's going on first, maybe they were just captured by humans. If that's the case, it won't be a difficult task to get them out."
"Good." I looked at Aemon gratefully and turned my head to Zoie and Bria, "You guys ......"
Bria shrugged her shoulders helplessly, "Since you don't mind it yourself, we have no reason to object."
"I can also go with you guys, if this thing is really my father's doing, I might be able to help some too." Noah looked at me and said.
"All at your command." Zoie said respectfully.
"Okay, thank you." I said sincerely, a warm current flowing through my heart.
After some negotiation, we decided to go back to the cafe in Reims City, which was probably the last place my foster parents stayed.
When we returned to Reims City again, nothing had changed. The cafe didn't look any different from the outside either, except that there weren't any customers inside.
But when we got to the door of the cafe, I noticed that the door was open, indicating that there might be someone inside, which made us all nervous.
Aemon stepped forward and pulled me behind him before carefully stepping inside. We watched vigilantly for movement around us and checked the dining area and kitchen, which were both empty.
Only the upstairs had not been checked yet, but if there was an ambush inside, this was a bad location for us. We were planning to make a little noise to lure the people above us out when suddenly the curtain of the upstairs door was lifted.
"Edwyn, what are you doing here?" I looked at the person standing upstairs in amazement.
"Heather, you're finally back, where have you been all this time?" Edwyn looked at me with surprise.
Then he scanned us around and finally his eyes fell on the hands Aemon and I were holding.
Aemon also saw Edwyn's sight, and instead of letting go of me, he held my hand and raised it, "Long time no see, Edwyn, Heather went to my house for a few days."
Edwyn frowned, puzzled, "What's so fun about your house?"
"It's fun wherever you are as long as you're with the one you love, isn't it?" Aemon said provocatively, then kissed me on the side of my face.
"You guys ...... you're together?" Edwyn looked at us in shock.
"Should I tell him, honey?" Aemon inclined his head to look at me, "It might cost you an admirer."
Aemon must be doing this on purpose, how come I didn't realize he had such a childish side before, but I still wanted to go along with him.
"Yes, Edwyn," I said, "I'm with Aemon, bless us."
Edwyn's face turned ugly and he questioned me with a fierce wrinkle of his brow, "Heather, why did you choose him? What's better about him than me?"
Not wanting to answer such a meaningless question, and since I didn't have to explain myself to him, I asked rhetorically, "Edwyn, I think you should first explain your reasons for being in my house."
Edwyn took a deep breath and explained, "You haven't been coming to school, and I was worried that something might have happened to you, so I came to the cafe to look for you. Your parents said you left, so I came here for coffee every day, and I was sure you'd come back."
"But yesterday I saw Tina when I was getting ready to leave, and when I got back to Canada I realized something was wrong, and when I came back here today, your parents were gone."
If what Edwyn said was true, then it was Tina who had my parents, if that was all there was to it things weren't so tricky, after all Tina wasn't even a threat to me now.
"Thank you for your concern, Edwyn, but we're not going to make it. You don't have to waste any more time on me, I hope you get happy too, goodbye." Edwyn and I said our goodbyes.
"Wait, Heather!" said Edwyn, suddenly and eagerly running down and pulling me in, nervously, "Are you human?"
"Hey, get your hands off me!" Aemon ripped his hand away in exasperation, "Do you still want to get broken by me?"
Edwyn was thrown to the ground and he pointed at Aemon excitedly, "You, you're not human either! You're all not human!"
"Heather, we have to erase his memory." Zoie stepped forward and said seriously.
"Okay, I got it." I nodded to Zoie and walked slowly towards Edwyn, "That's good, Edwyn, forget everything."
"No, don't you cross, Heather, what are you doing!" Edwyn shrank back in fear while picking up the broom in her hand.
"Be careful, Heather," Aemon said, looking at me uneasily.
"It's okay, I know Edwyn won't hurt me," I said to Aemon, then knelt down in front of Edwyn.
Edwyn froze at my words, the broom in her hand not coming back toward me.
"You're right, Edwyn, I'm not a human, but a mermaid. But don't you worry, I won't hurt you." I stared into Edwyn's eyes and a mermaid's sound wave emanated from my throat.
After a few moments, Edwyn's pupils began to dilate and her expression became dull.
When we left the cafe in the car, Edwyn also came out of the cafe, his eyes were confused for a moment, and then left in the opposite direction of us.
While Edwyn was unconscious, we learned from him where Tina was most often seen, and we found Tina on the dance floor of a bar.
We grabbed Tina and questioned her in the alley next to the bar, which was almost deserted.
"Heather, why aren't you dead yet!" Tina said through gritted teeth, her eyes sinister.
She had absolutely no remorse for having hurt me.
If it was before, I would have shivered with fear, but now I was only filled with anger. I grabbed her by the collar and pinned her against the wall, asking in a cold voice, "Tina, tell me, where did you take my adoptive parents?"
"Do you want to know?" Tina looked at me smugly, "But I'm not going to tell you unless you die!"
"Hurry up and tell us, or ...... we'll dissect you and throw your organs to the dogs." Aemon picked up the dagger and plunged it into the wall on the side of her face.
"Don't try to scare me, you monsters, my father is the one who will take you all and dissect you!" Tina's body shuddered while her mouth spoke harsh words.
"Do you know who we are yet?" I asked her with narrowed eyes.
"You're all monsters! All of you are going to be captured by my father for experimentation!" Tina said excitedly.
"That's good." Just as my words fell, a series of heavy footsteps suddenly sounded in my ears. We looked at each other and tried to leave immediately, but it was too late.
In a moment, troops in black uniforms holding heavy guns appeared at the entrance of the alley.
"Daddy, Daddy, come and help me!" Tina struggled fiercely. Following her line of sight, I saw the man standing behind the group in black uniforms. It was a middle-aged man in a white lab coat, wearing a pair of gold-rimmed glasses and neatly tended hair.
"You can let my daughter go at once, raise your hands and give up resistance, and suffer less." The man said in a calm voice.
It turned out that the trap was waiting for us here, and even with our supernatural abilities, we could not resist the human gun and ammunition. But we wouldn't really obey this man's command.
"Professor Roy, if you don't let us go, I'll kill your daughter." Aemon pressed the knife to the side of Tina's neck and threatened in a cold voice.
"You know him?" I looked at Aemon in surprise.
"He's Tina's father, I saw his picture once when I investigated Tina, and ...... he likes to study alien communities the most." Aemon explained in a low voice.
"Now that you know, hurry up and let me go, or you won't have a good time in the research lab!" Tina said in a shrill voice.
"Be quiet!" Aemon spun the blade and made a shallow cut on Tina's neck and turned his head to Roy again, "Well, do you want to?"
While Aemon was still negotiating with Roy, I gave Zoie and Bria a wink, using sound waves that only mermaids can hear to get them to charm the men with guns.
At that moment, Roy gave an unexpected answer: "My daughter is not that important to me, my wife and I can still have a son, in comparison, you are more precious than her."
"Dad! What are you talking about!" Tina looked at Roy in shock.
Aemon frowned slightly, his face grim, "Won't your wife blame you?" He was buying us time.
"Of course, we have been disappointed with this daughter for a long time, she is not important to me or my wife, so you don't need to threaten me with her."
"Now I will give you ten more seconds, if you don't raise your hands and give up your resistance, we will shoot." Roy said in a deep voice.
We all kept silent without speaking as Roy started counting with a playful look on his face, "Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five ......"
However, just as he reached the fifth second of the count, the group all pointed their guns at him. roy instantly stared in horror, his voice shaking: "You guys ...... what are you doing?"
"Professor Roy, go ahead and keep counting. When you count to the tenth second, they will do as you command and pull the trigger." Aemon said as he walked up to him, while those with guns were staring at Roy as if they didn't see Aemon at all.
"What did you all do?" Roy asked with a face full of shock.
"This you will never know in your life." Aemon said, "Hurry up and tell us the whereabouts of Heather's adoptive parents or I'll count the rest of the seconds for you."
Under the charm of Zoie and Bria and Noah, the men with the guns would shoot as soon as they heard the numbers go off, making Roy the only target in their eyes.
When Roy didn't say anything, Aemon started to read the numbers: "Four, three, two ......"
Click, the sound of a loaded bullet.
"I said, I said!" Roy interrupted Aemon eagerly, "I'm telling you, Aemon's adoptive father is in ......"
