True Identity
Chapter 13
Elena's True Identity
Elena's POV
Long after everywhere had become calm, I massaged my sore arm and tried to rotate it. The pain nearly made me go crazy as I quickly aborted that mission.
Wesley had been so upset about everything happening. It had taken me pleading and the Grand Luna's intervention before he let go of Anita's neck. She was already hypoxic and passed out as soon as he released his grip.
"Why don't you take him inside so he calms down?" The grand Luna said to me and I led Wesley back to the room.
"I'm fine already Wesley. Let's go in so we can talk?" I suggested as I led him back to our chambers.
He didn't seem calm and every time he looked at my bandaged arm, he began cursing again. He also apologized every time I winced in pain.
"I can't sleep, Wesley," I said at past midnight, I had to call Ashley to cancel our previous appointment to see and she promised to come and see me today. I looked forward to her visit as I desperately needed to hang out with someone my own age and away from all the responsibilities of getting accepted as a Luna.
"Shots?" He suggested and I chuckled.
"I have never drank before," I admitted and he sat up, in bed.
He flicked on the bedside lamp and I squinted my eyes to adjust to the sudden assault of the light.
"I'm sorry." He quickly apologized when he saw that turning on the light like that without warning affected my eyes.
"It's fine. I know you don't believe that I have never tasted alcohol. There has never been any reason to take it." I admitted and he smiled warmly at me.
"I'll indulge you tonight. Have you met anyone yet?" He asked me and I looked at him confused, wondering who I was supposed to have met since I barely left the palace.
"Oh, I mean have you made any friends here? Preferably female friends. You can have girls' night out and all sorts. I'm not going to cage you." He said and it was my turn to smile at him, his thoughtfulness warming my heart.
No one has ever treated me with as much respect as he has. I thanked the moon goddess for helping me find my place and taking me from the toxic one. If Devon hadn't rejected me, I would probably never have gotten the courage to leave. Who knows? All that happened, happened so that I would be able to meet my own forever pack.
"Yes. I met someone, just the night I went for a stroll. The day I met the elders, I went out for a little stroll and met her at the park." I said, intentionally not letting him know that I had eavesdropped on his conversation.
"Tell me about her." He said with keen interest as he poured me a glass of a drink I had never seen before.
"Her name is Ashley and she is a fashion stylist. We were supposed to meet yesterday but Anita's whole issue came out so we rescheduled for today. She will be coming to the palace to see me by noon." I said excitedly, my heart racing with the anticipation of what alcohol would taste like.
"Nice. Here" he said and handed the half-filled glass to me, "that's a shot, drink it all at once." He said and without a moment of hesitation, I downed the contents of the liquid.
It tasted like fire and so bad too. It had a burning feeling that threatened to rip my guts apart. I gasped for air and fell to the ground, almost sure that Wesley had done something to my drink.
"Fuck! What did you put in it?" I said with a look of disgust evident on my face. I gasped desperately and wheezed as the burning feeling continued to spread. He was laughing at me and hurrying at me.
"Don't be like that. I didn't do anything. That is what vodka tastes like. Pardon me for being too lazy to go downstairs and get something better." He apologized and helped me up to the bed.
"Fuck, it tastes like a fucking bitch. This is what people drink every day and act like it's the sweetest thing in the world?" I asked, finding it hard to believe that they were people who were addicted to drinking.
"There are better alcohols, don't blame me." He said with laughter in his office and gave me a bottle of water.
"So when does it hit?" I asked him and as if I summoned it, my legs began to feel wobbly and my arms felt heavy.
"Just be patient and ease it into it. You will be fine. That should be enough to help you sleep." He assured me but the room swayed and the bottle of water slipped from my grasp and fell to the floor.
"Oh shit, I should have probably gotten other alternatives. Just take it easy. What was I fucking thinking?" He mumbled to himself.
I felt dizzy and managed to crawl into his arms, something felt weird but I enjoyed being held so close by him. He kissed my forehead continuously and before I could control myself, I caught his lips with mine when he came back for another forehead kiss.
"Elena, you are tipsy. I know you think you are in your right frame of mind now but just try to sleep." He said as he pulled away from the kiss. His scent began to float into my nose and I was shocked because I had never been able to scent another person's wolf since I didn't have mine.
Something different had happened to my body and maybe I needed to drink more to understand it better.
"I can scent your wolf. Why is he so restless and growling?" I asked him.
He took my hands and put them on a rock-hard part of his body.
"He wants his mate." He whispered.
